Seems a lack of urgency all over the pitchfor utd. Fulham far quicker moving the ball and finding space much easier, just their final quality lacking or they’d be two or three up.

24th February 2024 at 3:33 pm in reply to: Week 26 Carabao Cup Final Special 2024 and Premier League #212725Watching the utd game and 30 minutes in and Fulham are the better side yet its still nil nil. Its like most utd games I’ve seen this season, utd outplayed 90% of the time but have one moment of individual skill and nick the points. Tactically they are 2nd best so far.

Some of Spurs play has been good to watch, but some has been tactically poor. They made some good signings but I thnk have had a few injuries (not as much as us mind, we take the most injured team award this season!).
I think we all knew for a while the title would be between the current top 3 and I had 4th place between Spurs and Villa but Utd not far away now and have momentum.
Here’s the remaining games for the top 3:
Liverpool: Nottingham Forest (A), Manchester City (H), Everton (A), Brighton (H), Sheffield United (H), Manchester United (A), Crystal Palace (H), Fulham (A), West Ham (A), Tottenham (H), Aston Villa (A), Wolves (H)
City: Bournemouth (A), Manchester United (H), Liverpool (A), Brighton (A), Arsenal (H), Aston Villa (H), Crystal Palace (A), Luton Town (H), Tottenham (A), Nottingham Forest (A), Wolves (H), Fulham (A), West Ham (H)
Arsenal: Newcastle (H), Sheffield United (A), Brentford (H), Chelsea (H), Manchester City (A), Luton Town (H), Brighton (A), Aston Villa (H), Wolves (A), Tottenham (A), Bournemouth (H), Manchester United (A), Everton (H)
After this weekend City have a difficult run of 5 games. Have to say Liverpool have the slightly easier remaining games, just a shame we will probably need to play our U12s in a few of them!

It’s not often you get to mention the word ‘Spurs’ and ‘title winners’ in the same sentence, especially once their ‘good start’ is all but a distant memory, but this year Spurs might play a big part on who becomes the title winners. At the end of April and the first week of May they play consecutively:
City at home
Arsenal at home
Liverpool awayCould also have a major impact on 4th place. Poor as Utd were for the majority of the season they remained in touching distance and now look to finding a bit of form. With that late run for Spurs I fancy Utd to pip them.
Let’s hope Villa can maintain some form eh?!

“I think Klopp or someone else at the club said that weβll be getting a Sporting Director before we go after a new manager and I hope that itβs actually true.”
The last rumour I heard was West ham technical director Tim Steidten who basically gave a come and get me plea a week or two ago. According to todays Guardian the rumours that he’s leaving are getting stronger.
And what is one of his most famous achievements? He was the guy that appointed Alonso at Leverkusen. Maybe this is something to keep an eye on.

Chelsea deserved that, better finishing could have had another. Fully expect City to come out fired up and win however, but there will be chances for Chelsea on the break.

That’s because Chucky it doesn’t involve Spurs and you’ve never said anything positive about anyone or anything unless it’s to do with your team.
Personally I think what he is doing with an unfancied team is fantastic and doing it whilst playing entertaining football. No manager appointment is guaranteed unless you’re already run by a state that’s not afraid to bend the rules, but I think any Liverpool or indeed Munich or Madrid fan is within their rights to be excited over this potential appointment. (Think Madrid can be ruled out as CA recently signed an extension and they are doing well this season but you never know).

Mav, no didnt get to watch it, don’t have the Bundesliga package. But I have seen the highlights and reports and it sounded like Leverkusen were superb. What he is doing there is simply staggering, bare in mind he took over the team in or just above the relegation zone.
Can he replicate this at Liverpool? Will he stick with 3 at the back? I dont see that he has to just because he plays with 3 now. Part of his game is the 3 and 2 holding midfielders are all good on the ball and can play their own mini-game to draw the opposion to them. With arguably better players at Liverpool maybe he will be happy to use only 2 centre backs.
I think his style will excite Liverpool fans if he does indeed take over. As a very popular player he will be given extra time but I think if the fans can get into what he is trying to do early on then that helps even if results don’t go 100% the way they want them to (like when Klopp started).

Adlab just watch thr video I posted on the City page, explains how ‘innocent’ you were following the CAS report and how it came to its decision.

Mikus was just thinking the same and remember saying he looked tired last season. I have a theory in my head he wanted to leave then but didnt want to with the team in such a state. This rebuild is probably a couple of seasons ahead of schedule and he will leave the team in a great situation.

“I have to [say] I will leave the club at the end of the season,” Klopp said in an interview with the club’s media channels. “I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it or at least try to explain it.
“I love absolutely everything about this club. I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters. I love the team. I love the staff. I love everything.
“That I still take this decision it shows you that I am convinced it’s the one I have to take. It is that I am, how can I say this? I am running out of energy and I have no problem now, obviously, I think I know it for already longer that I will have to announce it at one point . But I am absolutely fine now but I also know that I cannot do the job again and again and again.
“And after all the times we’ve had together after all the time we’ve spent together, the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you and the least thing I owe you is the truth. And that is the truth.”

Pretty much “we all know they are guilty, but we all know they are too powerful to be punished. Doesn’t mean it didn’t happen however”.

Good points Chucky and for sure City losing is the best result for football, but even then there will be a lot of issues for the PL to sort. City win and the game is in trouble as we know it! (Or once knew it, could argue its already far down the slippery slope!).
Frustrating as it is I can understand why it’s taking a long time for the investigation. As I said previously, once they stopped cooperating they should have been suspended until they started again. Or a point deducted for every day they don’t cooperate. Something like that…

Problem for the PL is no matter the outcome they lose.
City lose: the much proclaimed best league in the world has been a sham for the last 10 years. Massive can of worms is opened about lost titles and maybe more significantly, lost revenue. Questions will be asked how this has been allowed to happen for so long and of course what happens next. Potential loss of PL sponsorship money, TV rights or even court action against the PL for retrospectivly staging a false competition.
City win or get a light punishment: The PL will be determined as weak and not fit for purpose. They couldnt win a case against a team blatantly breaking their own rules! PSR will be thrown onto the fire and the likes of NUFC will try and buy every player they can. Other teams will most likely see the PL as a terrible association and look to disband and the much talked about super league becomes an even more likely scenario. Pretty much English football will never be the same again.
There’s been many nails put into football’s coffin recently but no one has hammered in as many as Man City have with their cheating.

What irks me is that City stopped cooperating with the investigation but didn’t have any punishment for doing so. They should have been charged as if found guilty there and then, similar to when Rio missed his drugs test.
<sarcasm on> Can understand why City didn’t cooperate, I mean it’s the normal thing to do you are completely innocent and want the World to know. It’s like “we have nothing to hide honest, but we will hide it anyway!”. Makes perfect sense for a team as innocent as their fans make out.

Chucky, it’s due to the complexity of City’s situation. They have 115 charges that go back a few years and they are contesting every single one of them. Forest and Everton were relatively simple breeches of the rules and were open and honest with the investigations, City have been uncooperative at any opportunity. Also City have an absolute army of lawyers and a win at any cost mentality so it’s a whole different opposition for the PL.
End of 2025 season is the rumoured outcome of City’s investigation apparently and that is far too long. They will likley add another few astrixed trophies by then.
And it’s PSR not FFP. Different rules, different governing body.

Warner was clinical in his first stint with RBL because he wasn’t used in the build up because he isn’t that sort of player. He’s a counter attacking teams dream but never expect him to drop deep and get too involved. Chelsea never played to his strengths and his confidence plummeted.
Not sure he is what spurs need. He’s more suited to a low block, direct counter type team.

I’ve watched the “dive” a few times now and still think he pushed the ball too far and wide past the keeper so it wasn’t a case of just putting into the back of the net. I think there was contact but minimal and Jota felt this and knew he would struggle because of his poor touch, the delayed dive action was because of the processing time needed.
You could argue the contact threw his balance which added to the difficulty of actually scoring what seemed a simple chance and in that case it should be a penalty irrespective of a dive or not. I’m not convinced by this however.
One thing that would help is if a player is clipped but stays on his feet and misses then a penalty should be given. It’s like playing an advantage in normal play and then calling it back when no advantage is made. I don’t know of many instances this has happened as players always just throw themselves to the floor and it seems its a part of modern elite football these days.
I’ve seen calls for retrospective bans for dives. I agree in principle as it should make a player think twice, my only concern would be that the panel would likely be made up by the mates of those reffing the match and they will likely not want to disagree with the on field decision.

Alonso is doing great, top of a one team league and playing very nice football. He won’t move mid-season he has a chance to become a legend, but I guess he could go in the summer if BM hoover up all his good players.
Coincidently his contract expires the same time as Klopps…
