If you’ve seen the TT pages recently you’ll probably seen I’ve argued pretty much on my own against the rest that it’s pretty difficult to pick high level players that are willing to play second fiddle to our front three. Not sure I want to go down this discussion route again, I’ll accept that others have different views, but I do feel our lack of spending big has so far justified my view. 2 weeks this could change however!
The point I am making was with only 2 weeks left theres not enough time to integrate a player fully into the starting line up whilst our front 3 get over their summer exploits. So whether I am right or wrong about spending big or not, I think we should get used to that the front three containing both Origi and Brewster will start the season.
Mikus are you expecting to sign players that will make the starting line up straight away, like Mane and Salah? This meaning they would be better than Mane and Salah, font think theres anyone realistically available.
Nil, dont understand your comment about bonafide strikers, are you wanting one or not? We dont play with such a player hence my confusion on the comment.
Maybe Ed can merge this with the existing LFC thread? Or someone have a go at getting it back on course?

If your concern is unless we buy someone we wont be ready then I have to disagree. You buy a player now for the front 3 for example and they wont be fully integrated in time anyway. Fit maybe, but able to play Klopp’a way? Doubtful. Look how long it took Robbo and Fabinho, you might as well just wait till the usual 3 are back and hope the others can perform till then.
Some people worry too much about preseason whilst others dismiss it as merely a way to get players fit. I disagree with both in their entirety. For established first teamers it is mainly about getting match fit and up to speed. But for the youngsters I’m sure Klopp is seeing how they perform, how they integrate, what their personality says about them when they play more competitive matches with the established players. Players like Kent and Wilson these games could decide if they’re loaned out or kept.
Side note, shouldn’t this be part of the main liverpool discussion? Maybe I’m misreading the intent but I dont understand why we needed a new thread and in the non football section.

Can’t believe you pulled me up on Erikson/Eriksen when reading some of Sean’s posts is like trying to break the Enigma Code!

I agree with Nine in that a forum heavily biased towards one team is not a healthy situation. It would be good to have more posters from other teams and I find it enjoyable to hear a different perspective. Obvs not if they’re just a wind up troll but think we can all spot them a mile off!
Speaking of which tMA has come out of his post Liverpool champions league sucess hibernation it seems. Please never let him find his way onto these pages!

You’re not wrong Nine regarding big clubs and loan signings, especially Mbappe! Disgrace of a rule bend if ever I seen one!
Ceballos was heavily linked with Liverpool last season, I’m interested to see how he does.
Fekir, he of even stronger previous Liverpool links and the one to bring home the Holy Grail even though most fans have never seen him play, is about to join Betis it seems. No offence to Betis, but I’m guessing his stock has fallen somewhat? This will leave Lo Celso free to join Spurs.
Don’t think there will be much if any action at Anfield, but maybe the big transfer circus will kick off soon. Also think Spurs will still have a few more in and in particular out, Alderweireld? Rose? Erikson? Kane? Ok just kidding about Kane…

Maybe because his arch-enemy tMA stopped posting his rubbish on the main page he thought his work was complete?
On a more realistic note, I think he got banned. He is listed as a spectator not participant or whatever an active person is called.
I’ve been on TT a lot recently but I’ve had enough. The level of knowledge and quality of discussion is somewhat lacking these days.

Mak, now don’t get me wrong I think Fabinho is an excellent midfielder but it’s the synergy and cohesion between all 3 midfielders, in combination with their relationship with the full backs that makes the system work. Put Coutinho in there and something would have to give, be it the full backs hold back more, play a deeper line or we just except that we will concede more chances/goals.
I put this on TT that I think some people reflect back on Coutinho’s time at Anfield focusing only on the positives. In the front 3 he was good, but not brilliant like Mane is, so to me that’s a non-starter for a discussion. In the middle 3 he was pretty poor to be honest, certainly no what a Klopp midfielder is expected to do. I think most people remember him picking the ball up on the left, taking it past a player onto his right and curling it into the corner. But they forget the times he hit it into the crowd, ran into defenders, held onto the ball too long, didn’t track back and most common and unforgivable take a stupidly difficult shot on when others were far better placed.
I’ve not even mentioned the moral issues of having him back after how he behaved, to me the footballing ones are strong enough not to have him.
He’s a good player, but certainly not elite, and he would still command an elite fee, salary and playing status. Most importantly he would compromise our style. Let him go to PSG, he’ll fit in well there.

To be fair he didn’t stay long at Utd for others to remember unless you’re a fan of Football Bloopers.

A few ago that would of been most people’s idea of a fine team, maybe minus Jones haha. Just missing an unsellable goalie.

No need to be sorry about disagreeing, would be a pretty boring site if we all agreed.
I get what you and others are saying, but so far no one has said what I would say a realistic plan about utilising all these wonderful additions. Just saying theres plenty of games or whatever happens if someone gets injured just backs up my viewpoint that we’re looking for deputy players, and marquee players won’t sign to sit on the bench for most matches when they can be the star elsewhere.

But Nil, for CB we have Gomez, Matip and Lovren maybe Van Den Berg along side VvD. Up top besides are main 3 we have Shaq, Brewster, Origi. Not sure what you mean about the bigger picture, you’ve not really explained what you mean.
Everyone that keeps saying we need more players I ask who do you think would come in and be second choice? Yes there are a lot of games but they will still be on the bench in the important games if all 3 are fit, they are still deputies. And whose place will they take from the list of players above?
The only type of players I think are ok with such a role will be either kids that we can develop and give match experience to (but we have Van Den Berg and Brewster) or an old head, like Mario Gomez whom I believe we were interested in but nothing happened. The likes of Werner or Pepe are unrealistic unless they are first choice and that means losing one of our 3 forwards.
You know sometimes it’s works well not to buy players especially for a team in the ascendancy, for which we certainly are. Not sure what Oz mean by we will slip further behind, that implies we are already slipping behind for which I strongly disagree.

A striker in what capacity though Nil? Back up or first teamer? Who does he replace?

Fekir is an odd one as we were clearly interested last season for 50 odd million but now he’s available supposedly for 30 we’re not looking. If he is happy to play second fiddle I’d agree he’d be a good buy for the forward cover, never heard of him play midfield and I’d guess he wouldn’t fit in Klopps 433.
Think Ox will be primarily in the midfield 3 giving the drive it sometimes lacks. He will alternate with Keita I’d guess. He can of course play wide too and we are blessed to have many a versatile players.

Sean are you saying we spend lots for one or two games? And the players will be happy to play those games then sit on the bench for the rest of the season? Who do you suggest?

We are light for full back cover so I’d prefer a new signing there rather than have Gomez cover the right and the youngster and Milner cover left. Up top and midfield I think we’re fine. If no one leaves then yeah I’d be pretty happy.

I like Origi. Great attitude, never heard him complain, can offer something different up top and also cover Mane. When he is low on confidence his performances really suffer, as was seen during his year loan in Germany. To be fair he was playing in a struggling team which changed manager 3 times I think.
Are there better players out there? For sure there are. But will they come and sit happily on the bench? Even City with all their cups are struggling to keep Sane, Mahrez and Jesus happy. Some Liverpool fans have said that we need a 50m player to rotate with our front 3 and that there’s plenty of games for them all to share. But you’ll still be expecting them to be second choice, and players like Pepe, Felix (moved I know) etc won’t move unless guaranteed to bethe main man.
I’m happy to go into the season with Origi and Brewster as back up. From what I’ve read Brewster is highly rated by Klopp and would of featured a lot more the last season if not for injury. Remember he was the star man in the WC winning team containing the likes of Sancho and Hudson-Odoi.

Nine, how long are you in Catalonia? I’m pretty sure DAZN has the legal broadcasting rights to the Premier League for the next 3 seasons in Spain. For 10EUR a month I really cannot recommend their service any higher, it’s superb for the price. Sadly for me over in DE they lost the rights so I have to get Sky for the forthcoming season, although they broadcast far more games than UK Sky do and still cheaper.
How much has Ake been quoted at? The prices these days for even just an alright but not set the World on fire kinda player are pretty obscene. Ake is pretty rapid but also short for a CB (think he is 180cm).
Regarding Lampard, if he plays Kante in his correct position and moves Jorginho up the pitch a bit so his quality passing can actually be effective then he might do alright. Will be interesting to see how Mount and Hudson-Odoi do under his guidance.

Oz, my point isn’t to stick them in a top level team and see what happens, it’s to stick them in the correct level team and see what happens. If that’s Football Conference, then so be it, they will probably get paid more and play in front of more fans. Serena Williams at her best would probably beat a heck of a lot of top male tennis players and so would a few others.
Just play/watch sport according to the level of the sportsperson, not their sex. If they good enough, then they’re good enough.
I did say I had an unpopular opinion 😀

So everyone loves Brookside, thought this was supposed to be the unpopular opinion thread?!
I have one, reading Nil’s comment about the tennis reminded me and with the ongoing women’s World Cup it kinda topical.
Men and women should compete together in sport.
For tennis, this would immediately remove the “why do women get paid less?” question (because they have to play less!).
In football, if you’re good enough it shouldn’t matter what sex you are, let see you on the pitch. And if you’re not good enough, drop down to the right level like everyone else.
Sure there’d be outcry about mixed-sex boxing and MMA mind!
