Big boys Liverpool, Barca and Bayern confirmed looking for new managers. Nearly big boy Napoli also I think. Plus a load of nations will probably part ways after elimination from the Euros. Lots of managerial changes this summer, can the likes of Utd and Chelsea even think about changing given the rebuilding job required and the unattractive position those clubs find themselves in? Not enough quality managers to go around!
Still think it will be Southgate for utd despite Ed trying to convince eveyone it wont happen This new part owner chap seems to have the hots for him, at least the rumours have sprung up after he bought his share of the club.

Agree Ed, England arent alone in being boring. International tournaments are much shorter than domestic leagues so there’s little chance of recovering from a defeat, so most of the big teams play it safe. As you say, just get through.
I never get excited about the Euros or World Cup, but if I do watch them I prefer to watch the slightly smaller teams that play with more excitement. Japan, Croatia, Colombia etc.
The last time I can remember England consistently playing exciting football was under Venables. He really knew how to bind the team (maybe too much!) and was good to watch. If the football gods had any justice in them they would have won Euro 96.

Ed, stop crushing our dreams with tales of reason and logic.

There’s no chance Southgate will be the next Liverpool manager. He’s at 50/1 currently, put that in perspective that’s the same as Michael Carrick or Roy Keane.
He’s a safe and boring manager that the statisticians can point at as being successful but for me he has been a failure. He beats teams that he is expected to beat but comes up short against those that pose a challenge. Apart from defence he has one of the best squads in world football currently.
Read the other day something that summed him up, the worst thing England can do is go one up within 10 minutes because it will be 80 minutes of defensive boring football trying to hang on.
He’s the 5/2 favorite for the Utd job. Please make that happen π

“If we want to play 4-3-3 and manic stampede on the counter, then be incisive and release the ball.”
Nil you have watched Liverpool under Klopp over the last 9 years right? It’s not like we’ve just stumbled across 433 and trying it for the first time. But calling it a “manic stampede” is very disrespectful to a team that is regarding one of the best in World and still competing for the league.
I doubt Alisson would have made any difference with their goals. You seem to have an agenda against Kelleher as anytime he concedes you mention him negatively. Is he as good as arguably the best goalie in the world? Of course not, but he’s a damn fine keeper himself and we are lucky to have him as the no 2.

We lost the game because we let Utd turn it into chaos. First half we were hitting too many long balls but in the 2nd half MacAllister was on the ball a lot more and we looked much better, just poor decision making let us down. But in ET especially when 3-2 up we let them turn it into a mess of a match with no shape and with the crowd behind them it was always going to favour them.
When we needed control we were found lacking. Players fault? Klopps? Doesnβt matter to be honest.
Well done Utd.

I have often spoken about City in a negative light regarding the 115 charges as I have an opinion on it and it is one of the biggest stories of thr PL era. But Sunday wasn’t about that, it was about two hugely talented teams going to to toe and producing one of the best 1-1 draws I can remember. Usually these big games fail to deliver but certainly wasn’t the case. For the first 15 minutes liverpool couldn’t get close to City and I feared a drubbing. But that second half performance from Liverpool was one of the best for while.
Shame the pen took the attention away from a magnificent game. I don’t think there’s a conspiracy, watching live I didn’t think it was a stonewall pen only after seeing it again. I just think the ref and var took the easy option with what would have been the last kick of the game.

Exactly Sean, Diaz incorrectly disallowed goal, Odergaard handball and now Doku studs in the chest. 3 massive decisions that went against Liverpool and most likely cost a few points that could cost the title.
Funny thing is City fans think Liverpool have the favour of the refs and its themselves that everyone is conspiring against!
I don’t believe that there’s a conspiracy, although can understand having some refs on Dubai payrolls can fuel these. I just think its incompetency and luck, City seem to have a lot and Liverpool somewhat less so.

Good points Mikus, the threshold of what constitutes a foul is higher in the box than outside.
Funny feeling disappointed with only a point against City whilst having so many first teamers out. Endo and MacAllister were absolutely superb and some of the best buisness we’ve done for many years.
Its going to be tight, just hope not another 1 point win for City.

Looked again at the studs up, I will re-evaluate, it should have been a pen. City very lucky, but I dont think it was corruption, they just seem to always get the rub of the green.
One day their luck will run out…

Apart from not carding Walker for his umpteen fouls I thought the ref was pretty good. The City goal was correct and nothing like the Endo ‘foul’ the other week.
The studs up pen shout could have gone to a pen but it would have been very harsh if given, he was clearly only going for the ball and not in an overly aggressive manner. A little reckless yes but not out of control. This is still a contact sport right? If that had been given against Liverpool there would have been a massive outcry and claims of corruption. I have seen them given, but I’ve seen more of them waved away.

Endo goal was ruled out for offside not the ‘foul’. Ake cannot be offside from a corner and like Endo no ‘foul’ was committed. Its actually consistent for once.

Mak, how do you mean frustrate City? I don’t think those that sit back with a low block have success against them as city just keep to their principles and usually wear them down. See last week against Utd. I think you need to be aggressive and not let them dictate the pace, so I think Liverpool has one of the best styles to get a result against them.
I ask what you mean because a lot of the time when people say frustrate a team it means don’t give them any space to play in.
We have a lot of injuries but we are at Anfield so I think it could go either way or be a draw. I don’t see neither city or liverpool as strong favorites or either as the leagues form team, that accolade goes to Arsenal who have fantastic momentum going into the home straight.

If City are such a machine why are they not already top? Were they a machine when they recently dropped points at home against a poor Chelsea team? This season so far they are not as good as the team that is currently top and that team is the one they play away on Sunday. If anyone should be scared it should be the City fans.
All three of the challengers are equally capable of churning out constistant high quality results because that is what all three have been doing for the majority of the season. I don’t see why City are on a level higher than Liverpool or Arsenal so that they are to be feared so much.

Utd relied on the counter and had a couple of chances to execute it whilst still at 1-0 but failed and then 2nd half was like a training session. Foden was excellent but Utd apart from the two CBs and goalie (for most part anyway) were rubbish, played like an underdog two leagues beneath in an fa cup tie.
I said before the game Utd need to be aggressive and in their faces but they weren’t, they were timid. Awful tactics from one of the supposed big boys.

Yeah I know Sean, 10 points is massive at this stage. Rumour Tuchel may be sacked before the season close.
Frimpong will surely be snapped up in the summer, not sure by us we already have two quality right backs. Depends who takes over and what they do with TAA I guess.

Watching KΓΆln vs Leverkusen as a warm up for the Manchester derby, Alonso’s men just taken the lead against 10 men. Frimpong the right wing back scoring from about 4 yards out. Wirtz clearly the focal point of the team.
Heck of an atmosphere, think the ability to have a beer whilst watching helps!
Back to the UK and my concern for uTd is up front as Rashford cannot hold the ball up. Think it’s going to be counter attacking for utd which I’m not convinced is always the best idea versus City.

Nil, yes Arsenal have a couple of “easy” games next but overal I think Liverpool have the easier remaining fixtures (just). Out of the tradional big six, Liverpool play the fewest:
Liverpool: City (H) Utd (A), Spurs (H)
City: Utd (H), Liverpool (A) Arsenal (H) Spurs (A)
Arsenal: Chelsea (H), City (A), Spurs (A), Utd (A)I mentioned on a previous thread that Spurs play City, Arsenal and Liverpool in consecutive matches towards the end of the season and will have a massive say in where the title ends up, and of course for their own top 4 ambitions.
You could also throw Villa into the mix as they play all three still, home to Liverpool on the penultimate round and away at City and Arsenal.

Just to steer this away from our apparent jealously of City anyone see what happened in Spain? Quite the opposite of play until the big boys score!

The ref made a mistake but not the massive one being portrayed. There were still different passages of play until the goal, the biggest mistake was the Forset lad not hoofing it the the edge of his own area.
I have seen a comment from a City fan saying Liverpool should be punished for this blantant cheating with a deduction of points. This from a City fan of all people discussing cheating!
On to today and I have a feeling Utd will play the same way they did at Anfield. The problem is City don’t play risky football like Liverpool and will just keep probing until they get the goals. I can see it being a 1-0 win to City with about 80% possession. Really hope I’m wrong and Utd are aggressive and in their faces from the start and attack with tempo but I can’t see it happening.
