Ok Nine, sounded like you were implying we were being a little too big-headed, or me in particular as the thread creator, something I think the LFC fans on here are not guilty of. But I see your point now you explained it.

You can’t just recall them anytime you like it has to be in the transfer window. If a loan free was agreed, like with most loans for older players, then you can’t recall them at all until the loan contract expires. So doing it whenever it suits a team isn’t possible.
For the game in question Liverpool had two fit centre backs in VvD and Gomez, with the other two plus emergency CB Fabinho injured. VvD is important and Klopp decided to rest him. I’m sure if Lovren or Matip or maybe even Fabinho were fit they would of played there but they weren’t. So is this an abuse of the loan system? Or just a manager trying to manage his squad and give a senior player a bit of a rest by the only viable option available to him? He was on the bench vs Spurs too I think.
Lovren and Matip will be back soon and the whilst the chances both are out at the same time are possible I guess Klopp has deemed the risk insignificant enough to send the guy back to Germany for more gametime.

I agree the loan system is outdated and needs readdressing, I just don’t get your reaction to it. It’s barely news-worthy at best to be honest.
VAR? Yup. Corrupt refs? Fine. Diving? Always. Overseas matches (think Spanish Super-Cup in Saudi). Deffo. But a young lad returns from loan, plays one game and then back off on loan? Think there’s a lot more wrong going on than this.
Having said that I’m more than happy to agree to disagree on this. And Championship Manager is so 1990’s, it’s been called Football Manager for at least a decade now!

“Bit ironic really when thereβs been a discussion on here discussing whether this Liverpool team arenβt the best PL team ever. You donβt get much more positive than that”
That’s not what that discussion is about, I don’t think anyone here has ever said that.

Of all the things you could have a moan about regarding football this is what you come up with?! I mean seriously, who cares? Why does it offend you?
I assume we are talking Nat Phillips who was recalled from Stuttgart to play in the FA Cup for Liverpool against Everton and then sent back out on loan to that team. As you said, not against the rules, as a player can play for a maximum of two different teams per season. He came back to give some senior players a rest, did the job, now back to get regular football again. What’s the problem?

It’s fine mate, my thinking is pretty much the same as yours. But still, not bad teams eh?

Sean I agree with you but all the talk in the media as I said is Liverpool are on their way to greatness, hence why they are included. I wanted to gauge what you lot think of this media talk and put it in context of the great teams we’ve seen. I’m not staying Liverpool are, will be or whatever, just starting a discussion.
My opinion is the 99 utd team is probably the best but not for what they won as sometimes that can be influenced by luck, quality of opponent or whatever. I just think there’s no weakness in that team at all and are very well balanced.

Adlab you think the Aubamayang red car was wrong? Interested to hear why. It wasn’t intentional but was clearly dangerous play so a red all day for me.

Mak, I thought we were ok in the first half but not so good in the second. A few players put a shift in but we were lacking the usual quality. Got away with the Lo Celso miss, but before that Firmino had a good chance when either side of where he actually put it might of got a goal.

Dont think anyone is surprised that Spurs are trying to sit deep and counter but maybe now at one down they need to be a bit more assertive?
Think they are trying to copy what Utd did by restricting the liverpool fullbacks and having two forwards drag the centre backs apart by running the channels.

Spurs have a horrendous injury list at the moment. Kane is out and they have no direct replacement so probably Son up top. But in midfield Sissoko, Winks,Ndombele and maybe Winks are out, and for left back both Rose and Davies meaning the youngster Sessegnon moves back or a centre back moves across. Obviously they’ll still have their reserve keeper in goal too.

Yes he is good at getting up and down the pitch, and left and right, in fact he’s excellent at wandering all over the place. He is a player you need to say go do your thing, don’t worry about defending, tracking back or holding your position. Hence he needs two disciplined players to be effective, but with the right setup could become a regular international.
Very far away from being a midfielder for a Klopp 433.

As Ed said he’s a good player but needs a team built around him. I can’t see him, or Maddison for that matter, fitting into a Klopp 433, but for teams that play a 4231 with two solid no 6s he would do well. He’s 24 now so not really a youngster anymore and has matured a lot it seems, probably at the right time for him to make a step up.

Oz nothing wrong in being honest about the situation, doesn’t mean you are already celebrating. It would need a capitulation by Liverpool plus far better form from either City or Leicester to lose it now. Unlikely? Yes. Impossible? No.
Like a few on here I look at the next block of games and this one is probably our toughest block of the season, whilst City should win all theirs during January. The good news is that is flipped in February and March with City having a tough run of games (Leicester, Utd, Spurs and Chelsea all away).
That’s looking too far ahead to be honest but just wanted the share what’s coming up for both teams soon. I’m just focusing on the Spurs game which although Mourinho usually provides a difficult test, Spurs are not in great form at the moment, so I fancy all 3 points.

To be honest I think it’s a rather dull draw, no real standout ties and no non-league minnows for everyone to get behind. The Liverpool game (whoever they get) and the Chelsea one maybe the only chance of a big giant killing as the Premier teams are away but that’s about it.

Putting this in here as you guys will probably appreciate it and I have no intention of upsetting anyone on the general boards with a little joke, but…
Put “empty seats” into Google Maps or Earth and see where it takes you. π

Respecfully Mak I totally disagree. People do listen to her, if they didn’t she wouldn’t be relevant and none of us would have a clue who she is. Others are better educated but they have their own agenda which is fueled by greed and power. Look at Trump, the most powerful man in the world and a capitalist, he is only interested in increase his and his country’s industry wealth.
I feel sorry for her generation and admit my generation and older have fucked it up for her. I actually think what she and others like her are doing, whilst admirable, is way too late and won’t do enough to change anything significantly. Some people may change their attitudes, we might recycle a little bit more, or drive an electric car someday, but it won’t change large scale industry. Can’t see China, Russia, India or any other country with ambitions of power changing significantly to be a wee bit greener.
Hate the term Save the Planet, the planet will be ok. Might take a few hundred million years to become healthy again but in a planet’s lifespan that’s nothing. Should be Save Humankind, and that is already looking like a lost cause.

Good to see you back Mak.
I totally understand Liverpool fans being cautious as there’s still almost half a season to go and City have shown in the past they can go on winning runs. I’m still just looking at the next block.
January is looking tough and we could drop points but I guess we all said that about December right?
