Sorry anyone who says our midfield is dire really doesn’t understand our tactics at all, or hasn’t watched our games enough to form an objective option. Very harsh on all 3 lads there 442.

Gomez is looking very good again. His speed is such an asset.
Read this on the Echo blog, it’s pretty incredible:
“Liverpool have conceded just eight goals in the last 35 Premier League matches that the England international has featured in.”

Good to hear you’re enjoying our amazing season Oz!
City have by far the harder remaining games. The only games that concern me are City away and to a lesser extent Arsenal away, just in case they have their act together by the time we visit them! I was worried before the game about Wolves away and am glad that’s over. City still need to visit Chelsea which will be the next block after the one Mak states (after a very difficult CL game vs Madrid).

Think this could go two ways. Either City play like City usually do and attack then Utd could have a chance with the counter. If City play with more patience, keeping their shape and just pass about knowing the tie is already won then I can’t see Utd getting any chances.

It’s a handful of idiots that most likely have serve behavioral problems and/or criminal instincts that use football as an excuse to act that way. Football is passionate but for the vast majority of us we don’t feel the need for violence or hooliganism, we know how to act, but sadly for us these people football is often the spark that ignites their behavior. Never understood it to be honest, there’s far more important things than football to get that upset about.
Just hope they get caught and get everything they deserve.

Good point Ed about Miki. A lot will depend on how Utd supplement him. I’ve not seen much of him but I’m guessing you cannot expect too much defensive work from him. So you need midfielders that can do the dirty work, maybe McTom for defensive positioning and Fred for the leg work?
What will this mean for Pogba? In fact where is he? I have an image of him in somewhere like Miami, sipping cocktails laying on his lilo whilst occasionally (every 30 seconds) checking his Instagram account.

Happy to see Villa back in a big final but can’t help feel that Leicester would of given City a better game. That’s assuming City go through. Stranger things have happened although would be a massive shock if Utd got back into the tie. If City go into this game complacent and Utd get an early goal then things could get interesting.
Having said that, probably be 3-0 to City without getting out of 2nd gear.

Dont worry Nine no offense was taken. My response was tongue in cheek at the thought of our favourite Leicester resident going berserk.

Being a top top striker these days is more than just scoring loads. What is his link up play like? Even a few years ago you got players like Phillips scoring loads or even further back Clive Allen and yet neither of those were ever regarded as top strikers.
Not knocking his good start, just that there’s more to see than the goals scored stat.

Just been talking to a work mate that follows BVB about this lad. I’m still unsure if he is the next big thing or if he is just going through a very lucky patch where everything seems to fall perfectly for him. Against us in the Champions League he did nothing all match, except be at the perfect position to score from a yard out. Was he just very lucky or was he good to anticipate that might happen?

“The worst possible outcome now would be for Liverpool to win the replay and then go on and win the FA Cup completing the double I sincerely hope that doesnβt happen now!”
I can just imagine the fume Nil is having after reading this! π YOU HATE US!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand Klopp’s position, he is doing his best to manage his team. The team that he has got playing to an incredible standard and is chasing a possible record breaking title win and to defend it’s European crown. He has long championed the need of players and that they play too much. His native Germany get 4 weeks off in winter. Pep has also made similar comments.
Having said all that I hope his threat to play only u23s and not be in the dug out himself was just a knee jerk reaction. A team similar to yesterday would be ok for me, a blend of youngsters and some fringe seniors or those needing match fitness. I don’t think yesterday’s team was disrespectful to Shrewbury or the competition.
Disagree with anyone saying the FA Cup is a special cup or whatever, that died years ago when the FA screwed every penny it could from fans with Wembley semi-finals and stupid kick-off times for TV. The magic I remember from my childhood is long gone.
Maybe Klopp is just pissed that he has to change his flights for his 2 weeks he has booked in Majorca?

Yeah I get all this that’s it’s pretty much over, I’m just not thinking that way until it actually is. If you Mak or any other LFC fan wants to declare it’s over then that’s up to you, I’ll just look at the next few games. To be honest I feel better about looking it that way, kinda like having an amazing holiday booked in a few months but not bothering to think about it till a couple of weeks before.
Not sure if the attached pic has worked, but it shows the games left for the top 3 relative to the league table. City have a few difficult away games whilst showing they easily dominate the lower teams by spanking most of them.

Nothing at all wrong with expecting it to happen and showing how happy you are but it’s not actually time until it’s mathematically impossible to be caught. That doesn’t mean I think Liverpool will, but until all other teams are out of the equation I will still just look at the next block of games. Think by toning down my own excitement a little it makes this waiting period a little more bearable!
I will admit, it’s getting closer to time…

Now now Mak he has a point. He said take away the front 3, didn’t say replace them, so effectively playing with 8 men and no one up front. So I agree we would probably be a bottom of the league team.
Good, intelligent post Moos, keep it up!

Didn’t see the game Ed but also heard he was your biggest threat, but also heard that was more a thing against the rest of the team than a positive for him. I’ve seen many times this season and he’s been dreadful going forward so one reasonable game (should of had an assist apparently?) does not make a good fullback.

Sean I said at the beginning of the season that AWB and Maguire whilst good players were not suited to a top level team, more for a low block team. AWB in particular as he is dreadful going forward so it negates the option to use the fullbacks as an attacking option. So how do they break down stubborn defensive teams? Through the middle? They haven’t got the players for that either.
Utd have players that would suit a low block direct counter attacking team. Sadly for them that only works if the other teams takes the game to them, and being Utd only a handful will. This what I mean about needing an identity, a style of play, then get the right manager, the right coaches and of course the right players.

I don’t think it was ever Pep’s idea to buy a replacement CB for Kompany, it’s not like he never had the resources to do so! I think his plan was always to convert Fernandinho to CB, so in effect Rodri was Kompany’s replacement. Wasn’t it Pep that converted Mascherano to a CB, and did something similar at Bayern too with Alonso and Maritnez? Doesn’t explain his weird obsession with very expensive full backs!
Some quotes from a while ago from Pep (not sure exactly when, but Fernando was still at the club):
βI think Fernandinho can play in 10 different positions, because he has the quality to play wherever. He can play there [defence], he is quick, aggressive, intelligent and strong in the air.
So at the end of the window, we will have to see which players we have. But I think a lot of the midfield players we have here can play at the back, and when that happens the build-up play is much, much better.
I believe when the ball goes from a central defender to a striker, the ball comes back as quickly as it goes, and we have to make it clear that we are building up in our first process, whether that is defenders or midfielders, and that is why we need players of quality, to play in that style, and we have the players to do that. And I think by August 31, we will have the right players to play the way we want.β

Think it’s clear Ole won’t be at Utd next season. I think Utd need a whole new identity to be honest, and that can start by the removal of certain members of the board.
Poch will likely be the favorite and I could see him doing a much better job than Ole can. Will he take Utd back to the very top?
Nagelsmann would be a risk I guess as he has never obviously managed anywhere other than Germany, doesn’t have experience of dealing with big egos at RB Leipzig and is actually younger than a few Utd players (32). But he would offer his own modern style. He is doing very well indeed at Leipzig as they sit top of the Bundersliga, 4 points clear of Bayern. He is a risk defiantly, but maybe one that is worth taking after going the safe route of tried and trusted managers before and failing with them.
Marco Rose from BMG is another one. A bit older at 43, he is credited with a lot of the good work at RB Salzburg before taking charge at BMG who are currently a point behind Munich in 3rd. Like Nagelsmann he likes to press high and playing quick attacking football, a bit like Klopp, and we’ve all seen how well that sort of style can work in the Premier League.

This is something that our top managers like Pep and Klopp have been saying for a while. And it’s not just that too many games means tired players, it gives managers less time in between matches to work with his players and prepare them for the next game.
I have thought for a while that banning teams in European competition from the League Cup would be a good idea. Others things might help like no FA Cup replays and single leg League Cup semis.
Also International football needs to be looked at. There are so many games that are pretty meaningless, friendlies, games against the whipping boys etc (this could be contentious if they are banned I admit).
Get rid of football in the Olympics for a start. Should never of been there. And align the Continental tournaments, like having the AFCON every 4 years.
Sadly football is all about money now and more games equals more money generated. I don’t think the people in charge care that the quality will diminish as a result.
