Apologies to the Chelsea lads, no intent to hijack the thread.

I’ve been reading this pages and to be honest Mak no one has said anything that warrants your reaction. When you you start to think everyone around you is out of order and you are the only one that is right, and as you say that goes back many years, then you should take a good look at yourself. Maybe you are the one that is actually out of order and everyone else is just normal?

I mentioned previously that you post aggressive, I retain that thought. I think it might be good if you not only take a break from posting but seek professional help. Maybe you already have, but maybe it’s not working.

And as for calling someone a NONCE, that is bang out of order. Perhaps you don’t know what it means? If you do however then Ed needs to ban you and never welcome you back.

Mikus this is exactly what i think of when people say the big teams don’t respect the Cup anymore, yet one of them nearly always ends up winning it.

Bit harsh Mikus suggesting the owners are hiding behind the pandemic. The club has lost millions of expected income and will do so for part of next season too. Plus they have the same situation with their baseball team. I am actually glad we have owners that actually run the club with a successful business model and not just make marquee signings for the hell of it.

Big differences between Torres and Sane is Torres is right footed and predominantly plays right wing, both opposites of Sane. He plays a less advanced wing role it seems than what city play. Read he is not got great numbers for the final 3rd but is generally more involved in the deeper build up play. Sounds less direct than Sane.

I used Mbappe as I think he is the only upgrade on Mane and Salah in world football. But obviously you have the level below, thinking Pulisic, Leon Bailey, etc. Players who I think will give a drop off in quality from our front three so won’t dislodge them but are too good or expensive to be a League cup player or bench warmer. This makes them almost unobtainable for us.

So this is where it gets tricky. Finding a player that both had a reduced quality drop from our front three and happy twiddling their thumbs until an opening happens.

I read a year or two ago about the Harry Kane issue at spurs, in that they really struggle to get a back up striker of sufficient quality as they know they will always play second fiddle to Kane. We have the same with our front 3.

I think we have one season left before our 3 value starts to decrease significantly. I cannot see us replacing any of them this year but next year possibly. I still think Salah will end up at Madrid.

What City did a few years ago is of no relevance. We all know Pep likes his team to go for it all the time, hence why you see his team thump teams 8-0 one week then lose the next. We rarely go full throttle all the time if we have the points sewn up, or maybe in this case the title.

In the CL we played very well and the main difference between the two teams were the keepers. Oblak had a great game in the return leg whilst Adrian decided to become a pub level keeper. Against Chelsea in the cup we went out to a good Chelsea performance, it happens, even the great Man City lost recently the Arsenal in the cup, and Southampton in the league. The only really bad performance was against Watford. That one I cannot explain but it does happen.

I really cannot see what all the worry is about. We just won the league at a canter. City, our main rivals, have a rebuilding job to do, we don’t. We are maybe lacking one or two players for depth, such as 4th choice CB, Robertson understudy and maybe someone up top (if Shaq and Origi go), but we don’t need to spend massive.

I know a few of you want a big signing or whatever, so tell me who it would be and whose place in the starting 11 would it take (just hoping it that question doesn’t start another damn Henderson debate!!). Please don’t use the “we can rotate” or “people will get injured or lose form so everyone gets a game” excuse I am fed up trying to explain why no team has that policy. For example, I want Mbappe, and I would happily see Salah sold to make room for him. I would never expect him to come and rotate with Salah or Mane, or either of the two current players happy to step down to the bench. I would even let Mane go but be less happy about it, or Firmino if Klopp had a different tactical approach. Alternatively but pretty much the same situation, Sancho for either Mane or Salah. If neither Mane or Salah leave, and to be honest I don’t think either will this year, then I would not expect a huge name coming in. Maybe just a player with potential to step in for the league cup or something. Perhaps just give Brewster the chance.

Mikus I don’t really see anything to be concerned about. Since we won the league the players have been in party mode so it’s expected that their relentless form that won the league would drop a bit. The Liverpool players now have a bit of a rest till the start of next season, something the City players won’t have (providing they get further in the CL), so I expect us to start next season at full throttle. The only concern I have is that we will lose the Anfield atmosphere for a number of months which would normally give us a huge advantage.

Seems to be a fair bit of gossip that we will bid for Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth as a Lovren replacement. Makes a lot of sense to me, we were interested last year when he made the switch to Bournemouth from Bristol City. He is a tall 20 year centre back that can also play left back (so much needed cover for Robertson), and maybe we can get him without paying too much due to Bournemouth’s relegation.

In addition, obviously there is nothing physically or mentally constraining for two left footers to play together, but as lefties are in short supply pretty much every time they play on the left. That could be an issue if both have spent their entire careers as the left sided centre back.

Yup you’re right Sean, some reason I always thought of him as left footed.

I’m also with you Ake, not entirely sold on him. He is quick but it seems he has to be as his positioning is bad in the first place. He is little for a CB too, although some of the greats have been under 1.8m (Puyol, Baresi) but at a reported 71kg he doesn’t exactly cast himself as an imposing figure. I’m sure Pep will work on his positional play a lot.

Correct Ed, although I cannot think of a Left-Left defensive partnership that has worked. Maybe Vertonghen and Alderweield? I would assume this is down to the fact there are far fewer lefties around anyway.

Tweet regarding this from Carra, does he have a point?

“I like Nathan Ake & I think he will suit Man City, but with Laporte a guaranteed starter I’m not convinced two left footed centre backs works? I know right footed players play together but it never feels right the other way round to me! Left back or a Back 3”

Not all null and void references should be taken to heart guys, im sure most of you lot had genuinely concerned reasons. But there were a lot of spiteful people out there too, or others that did would use the virus to save their own situation. That was very disappointing.

You just have to visit a certain Man City forum to see for yourself. They have all shut up now the title has been won but they still have a chance of the CL. Funny that the virus is no longer an issue for them.

Seems to be a couple of points being discussed here.

Firstly, Lampard versus the Liverpool staff. This has been seriously blown out of proportion. These things happen every match and as Chelsea1967 says it’s only really news because the cameras picked up what was said. Lots get said during a match they are emotional events but I am sure most people forget and move on once the final whistle is blown.

Second, Chelsea’s transfer dealings and potential signings. I just think Chelsea are in a perfect moment due to the Coronavirus. They have money whilst many of the big teams (who may have bid for the likes of Werner or Havetz or definitely be linked to them ) do not or are worried about next season’s finances. Chelsea are having an almost free ride for any of the top players, and to be honest who can blame them?

                                        Team of the season: Liverpool

Manager of the season: Chris Wilder, great job on their return. Kudos to Klopp and Lampard too. And to Ole who I think everyone had written off and yet Utd will now play in the CL next season. Not sure he knew much on how they did it mind…

Goal of the season. Son’s was a great individual goal no doubt but I will go against the common vote and say Salah vs City. Fantastic crossfield pass (with his weaker boot) from TAA to Robertson, one touch then a whipped ball that takes a bounce that Salah cushions into the net. The cross was perfect and so was Salah’s run, any quicker he might of just been offside!

Disappointment of the season. City’s title defence excuses. 9 defeats and 18 points behind is pretty rubbish yet I heard so many times it’s because of VAR, or the league wants one of the “Cartel” to win, or it’s an anti-Arab thing. Leicester second half of the season also worthy of a mention after they were in such a good position for CL.

Signing of the season: Has to be Fernandes right? Since he joined Utd they look a different team.

Flop of the season. That big guy West Ham got from Germany, Haller I think? After 4 goals in the first 4 matches he was poor for the rest of the season ending on 7 goals. I thought he would be my surprise hit in the fantasy football league.

Disappointment of the season. All those people, be it people like Karen Brady or just the common fan, that used Coronavirus as a means to their teams benefit or (even worse) to the detriment of another. Yes I am talking about the null and void brigade. Bet a lot of them that still have a team in the CL will not be thinking null and void anymore!

Ed, what is Utd’s record against lowerer positioned teams since Fernandes joined? I’m guessing a lot better and most of the poor record was earlier in the season when Utd didn’t have that player that could unlock teams.
