Stone wall penalty on quasi. Walker is an over rated defender.

We are all very quick to jump on var and the officials when they get something wrong but for utds penalty they got it exactly right and shows the quality var can bring to the game.

I fancy Brighton, thought they were good in parts vs Chelsea. Lamptey is turning into a very exciting young player. With Pogba playing in the 2 in a 4231 you’ve always got a chance to control the midfield.
Watch it be four nil to utd now…

Didn’t see the game (not on Sky over here) but saw highlights and match reviews and it seems Minamino had a very good game playing in the Firmino role. Lots of hard work, good positions and involvement with a fair amount of skill too.
Firmino I think is the hardest player to replace if he is out of a game or when his time is up at the club as his role is very unique compared to other strikers. We seen it with Origi and I am sure if you put a higher quality player like Kane or Aubamayang in there it would compromise the style of play. He is so important to this team even when not playing his best.
Maybe Taki will be Firmino’s successor? Have to remember this was only Lincoln. I expect him to keep his place versus Arsenal in the next round so that will give us more of an idea against better opposition. If he is hopefully it means we have a suitable replacement when Bobby is out but also perhaps push him to maintain the high standards we all know Bobby is capable of.
Curtis Jones seems a very confident young lad! Lovely shift of body for his second goal.

Nine, why can no one ever say anything about Chelsea without you getting all defensive? Yes it is rumored but there are plenty of these rumours going about. My point was not an attack on Chelsea yet you have turned it into one. My point was purely about Liverpool and why Werner wasn’t a simple matter of 40m or whatever the fee was. Why did you bring Liverpool’s entire squad wage bill into the conversation?

Why do you always get defensive whenever someone mentions Chelsea? I was making a point that 40m or whatever the fee was, was not the only factor. Why have you mentioned Liverpool’s entire squad wage bill? Your frequent defensive jump to anything Chelsea is a real turn off for coming on this site to be honest. I think one of the Utd fans said that before leaving, not 100% on the name but think it was Alfie? What you wrote has no relevance to the point I was making to Mikus.
I posted this reply before but like many posts it vanished but it had around 5 or 6 links to Werner’s salary, a rumour yes but a pretty strong one.

It’s not as simple as that Mikus, it is reported that Werner earns 270k a a week at Chelsea and demanded a 10m sign on fee. Do you think Liverpool would be happy to make him their highest earner when he would be sat on the bench most games? Do you think if Liverpool matched Chelsea’s fee that Werner would of been happy taking less money and sitting on the bench? I certainly don’t.

I thought BHA played very well for most of the game last night and were arguably the better team. Chelsea looked like a team that hasn’t played a lot together which is probably what you’d expect. Werner (with a W Nil but the German W is pronounced as a V) looked good in parts and obviously lightening quick. Very nice goal from Reece James who looked very good all game. Most of BHA attacks, and they did have a number of them, came down Chelsea’s left side. The pen was nailed on but the mistake by the BHA defender leading to it shouldn’t of happened. Kepa really should of saved the goal and he really does not look like a Premier League keeper. The thing that impressed me most about Chelsea was their press. Dunn should of equalised and somehow missed from about 4 yards.

Its naive to think your spending is solely down to player sales. Normally I’d agree but these are unprecedented and unpredictable financial times for all clubs. We are looking at the prospect of going a full season with no or heavily reduced crowds plus huge playbacks to tv companies. The only clubs that can confidently spend are the ones backed by very wealthy owners, the point I think Klopp was trying to make.

Nine , I believe Klopps comment was in relation to your spending during the current pandemic and that you and City can spend lots and still know you have incredible financial backing. And not just on players either, also infrastructure and staff. Liverpool have not got this luxury and are feeling the effects after spending loads on updating training facilities and player contracts just before this situation hit. If we spent like you and the pandemic carries on for another year or two we like many others would go under, you won’t thanks to Abramovich. You can spend without fear. Many teams including Liverpool and Spurs are genuinely struggling at the moment.
I’m pretty sure he knows the influence the Alison and VvD transfers had on our fortunes and how they came about.
In fairness it was probably a remark he shouldn’t have made but Teamtalk at its most trashiness turned into a sensational attack that sounded worse than it should.

Grujic had a great two years at Hertha Berlin who wanted him permanently but were priced out of a move. He is a very good player but I think there are doubts that he can play Klopp’s way which are pretty demanding for the midfielders. I am sure once he get’s his move he will go on and have a good career, it’s just there’s an issue that Liverpool won’t budge on their asking price and his career could sadly stagnate in the reserves.

“Tho shows why bother with English players? Overpriced and overrated β¦.”
Squads are a maximum of 25 for over 21 players (under 21 do not need to be registered). 7 of those must be “home-grown”, as in spent 3 years between 16 and 21 at a club within the English FA jurisdiction (Swansea and Cardiff count). Ake for City counts as HG despite being Dutch because of his time at Bournemouth as a kid. If you don’t have enough HG then you have to fill spots within the 25 squad limit with U21. Hence why good English players are always way more expensive than their foreign alternatives.
Liverpool I believe are at their limit on non-HG with only 7 HG players. They will need to sell one non-HG (Gini, Grujic Origi etc) before purchasing another or at least be very confident they will sell or loan them out. It doesn’t make financial sense to have unregistered non-HG over 21 players picking up a big fat salary for doing nowt and using a U21 player for the HG spot.
City were on the limit but Ake has improved that situation.

Sean, don’t really want to go down the route of discussing City and the season they just had to be honest. I have views that some would disagree with but this is the transfer thread and I was talking about a potential transfer would fit or not into City’s team. I think they have issues elsewhere to address before Messi to be honest.
In addition Sean, have a link to Gini for 15m? I said as soon as Rakitic went it could spark a bit of a midfield transfer merrygoround with Gini going to Barca, and then Thiago going to Liverpool. I would be happy with that situation. I know Gini has much love at Liverpool but there were games when I forgot he was playing. Maybe that was a good sign for the role he plays?! I like the player but certainly never held him in such high regard as some fans on here and I was thinking for the new season Keita/Hendo/Fabinho would be our first choice midfield. What do you think?

Messi is not the player he once was. He still is unbelievable with the ball but when his team doesn’t have it he just walks about with his hands on his hips, they may as well assume they have 10 players he does that little. Man City, or any other team, would need to set up to accommodate this. With Pep’s high pressing of the passing lanes I cannot see Messi fitting into his system when City are under pressure. City lost 9 times last season, and it wasn’t all down to bad luck or individual errors as some seem to think, they were outplayed, outfought, and outthought. Messi will help them add a few more goals when they are tonking relegation fodder but he won’t help turn those defeats into draws or wins. I could actually see it as a negative move for City.
I think we have a few Messi fans on here but are you looking at Messi from 4 years ago? I know he is a legend but even legends fade with time.
This would be a vanity transfer for Abu Dhabi nothing more, and a extremely expensive one at that.

Rakitic to Sevilla confirmed.
Possible that Barca will go for Gini and Liverpool to get Thiago.
If this happens it was odd that Gini started the CS.

City’s owners will get exactly what they want with Messi, the bragging rights of having the best player (debatable) that’s ever played. This is to top trump Qatar’s “we have the World Cup” brag. They won’t care that they will be getting a player that walks around in a huff when losing and does bugger all for the majority of the match. They won’t care about paying 200m and 90m a year salary, to them that’s loose change.
I disagree with Nine when he says if City get him everyone else plays for 2nd place. A few years ago sure, but not now. He would help City spank relegation fodder 8 or 9 nil but City don’t have that problem anyway as results showed. I cannot see him rolling his sleeves up when City find it tough which happened a few times last season.

28th August 2020 at 12:25 pm in reply to: Harry βcome on then if you think youβre hard enoughβ McGuire #161783Response from the Greek prosecution lawyer regarding yesterday’s interview:
There are a lot of holes from his interview. My only opinion is that the interview was ill-advised and he should of just let the justice system do it’s thing. If he is then found not guilty he could tell all. I cannot see the benefit to himself in doing it before the retrial.
