I feel the same Mak, very angry about the game. But as you said there were a lot of positives. I thought the midfield looked great with good balance. Fab and Thiago sitting deeper and Hendo further forward with so much energy. Thiago indeed looks superb and was very lucky to escape a broken leg.
For Ajax I can see Fab dropping to CB if Matip is ruled out and Hendo taking the deeper midfield spot and Gini returning to the line up. Up front I think this is perhaps the game where Bobby is dropped for both his and the teams benefit. Not sure on playing Jota there, not sure the team has had enough time to try it, but Minimino looked comfortable there.

Rumours going around that Matip might be injured too! Like to add I am not endorsing the article as fact. I guess we will find out more at Klopp press conference.
(Video) Joel Matip spotted at Liverpool hospital amid growing injury concerns at Anfield
Paul Joyce has tweeted:
“Liverpool’s Joel Matip underwent a scan on Saturday, no major issue was detected. Jurgen Klopp must assess whether to start the defender against Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday.“

I don’t think the crazy scorelines can be put on the keepers in their entirety. It seems every team now plays out from the back and I don’t think every team has the players to do so, so that has likely contributed. I’m pretty sure all of us have shouted “GET RID” at the TV recently!

Your description of Pickford sounds correct to me, and yes these things do happen, doesn’t mean it should be acceptable or unpunishable due to whatever reason.

Well Liverpool spend oodles on a World class keeper, arguably the best in the World. City have a keeper that is perhaps World class also. England’s best keeper sits on the bench at Utd whilst a former World class keeper plays due to former glories (and probably to justify his enormous wage), but he is also a good keeper and will one day prove it at a higher level than Sheff Utd.
Not sure what you are trying to say. The PL has no good keepers anymore? Not true. That Chelsea overspent on a poor player and that Lloris is no longer any good. True, but not a fair reflection on the the rest of the league.

I think the Merseyside derby only adds further evidence that no one really has a clue about the new rules. I’ve read that for offside it is as always only a part of the body that can score. I’ve also read that it is now from the “shirt sleeve”, so above the elbow is offside. I’ve read that is in fact for the new hand ball rule, anything above the elbow is allowed. Also read that is wrong and it’s the same as it was.
So I ain’t got a clue anymore, pretty sure no one has. Experts, pundits, and I’m sure players all thinking and saying contradicting things. I wish they would do offside just from the feet, would make things so much easier. Yes you would have players with heads beyond the last defender but who cares? This would be an advantage to the attacker which sounds a good thing.
If they did offside from the armpit then both VvD and Mane are onside but I think Coote did it from the shirt sleeve. Maybe this is correct now, maybe not, I just wish everyone would be told clearly.
As Sean said what’s done is done so lets move on, although I do need to laugh that 442 thinks there’s not much wrong with this 50-50 challenge 😀 (see attached)

Pagan you’re right about free kicks and penalties i don’t think anyone is disputing that (except me because I don’t think VvD was offside!), but you can give red cards for incidents when the play has stopped. Numerous pundits, ex refs and journos have said this and don’t understand why Pickford wasn’t sent off. The Athletic report that the var ref didn’t even check the foul only concentrating on the offside of VvD.

Going back to the VvD Pickford incident one thing that hasn’t been discussed much is the offside. Apparently the line for VvD was taken from his elbow. I thought any part of the body that cannot score cannot be offside, which would include the elbow. Apparently that changed this season and if it hadn’t Pickford would of been sent off and a penalty given.
The VAR ref was the David Coote who has made a number of blunders before. Theres rumours going around that he didn’t even look at the challenge as he was too focused on the offside, irrespective of what we think are the laws.

I think law wise its a case of dangerous play after the whislte rather than violent conduct which doesn’t matter if the ball is in play or not. Dangerous play can only happen when the ball is in play which it wasn’t due to the offside. I think anyway!
You could argue it could open up the opportunity for the more devious player to leave a boot in after they have heard the whislte or know they are offside. Surprised Suarez or Diego Costa haven’t thought of this yet!

Ironic thing is if Barkley scored it would of been chalked off for off side from a var review. Villa then score from the corner.

As a liverpool fan I usually revel in Utds misery but that red card was the biggest joke I seen. Never ever a red card and the spurs player should be embarrassed. If anything a yellow for both and told to cut it out.

His tactic was to bypass the Liverpool press. Get the Liverpool midfield and attack to press far into the Arsenal half and then try a very quick transition to the fast strikers. It worked for the goal. Lampard also tried it and failed against Liverpool and that was at home. With Fabinho sitting and being more disciplined and in form it’s a difficult tactic to pull off and keep the other side out for the full 90 minutes.
The short goal kicks looked like madness but again this was to draw the Liverpool players to the ball and hope to quickly get it to Auba or Lazazette. I think this part in particular failed last night, as it almost always resulted in Liverpool getting the ball back.

Vardy, Wenger, the Cartel, teams in red, the Germans, Rui Pinto, der Spiegel, Rick Parry, and of course Michael Oliver. Its all their fault.

Not the most exciting first half. City taking too many touches turning it a little boring. Ref having a good game, getting all the big decisions spot on.
