Could be nothing, just some journalist trying to sensationalise it.

“Liverpool fear central defender Joe Gomez has suffered a ‘significant’ injury whilst on England duty, according to a report.
The Mirror says that Gomez is now set for his own spell on the sidelines after sustaining an injury at England’s St George’s Park base ahead of tomorrow’s friendly against the Republic of Ireland at Wembley and “there are major concerns it could be a lengthy lay-off.”
Jurgen Klopp’s men are already in the midst of a central defensive crisis with Virgil van Dijk set to miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury, Trent Alexander-Arnold out for four weeks with a calf strain and Fabinho – who has been deployed as a makeshift centre back – still to return from an absence with a thigh problem.” – as reported via The Echo.
Just when you think our defensive issues couldn’t get any worse…

Agree with HH and nine but just on the subject of needing to end the season early, I read that the clubs have already agreed that if 50% of the season has been played then final positions will be based on points per game, less than then 50% then they will void the season.

I read an interesting article from the BBC (cant find it now) saying that Covid 19 could be with us in some form for many years, and that a vaccine is not the kill switch for the virus. Think about it, we have had flu vaccine for many years yet thousands still die each year from flu but still we got on with our lives without much concern.
I am of the strong opinion that all these lockdowns will cause more harm than good. We need to protect the vulnerable, but really who cares if a healthy 25 year old gets it? As long as that 25 year doesn’t visit granny then what’s the problem? He or she will actually build up a tolerance to the virus and that will help in the long run. Some young people have died but young people die all every day. I bet more young people have died from a nut allergy since the start of the year than Covid yet we don’t all get into a flap when we see an unopened packet of KP nuts!
We need to protect economies, we need to secure jobs, we need to consider the severe impact lockdowns have on mental health. Keep the kids in school, keep all businesses open and concentrate on protecting the vulnerable by isolating them. Spend whatever is in the pot helping those that really need it to keep the health services from buckling under the strain and let everyone else go out and keep the economy ticking over.

SPOTY is viewer choice nothing political, if you don’t like it don’t watch it. I disagree that it’s a waste of money by the BBC, if it was not many would watch and the BBC would cancel it. Instead many families look forward to it every year. I also don’t get you Brian regarding the backed by millions, many celebrated sports people make about as much money as the average Joe, sometimes maintaining a job as well as the incredible dedication to training.
Rashford has done incredible things off the pitch this year and he is rightfully getting the acknowledgment he deserves but I don’t think his sporting achievements should merit him coming anywhere near the award. I don’t think footballers should be awarded anyway as they are just a part of a team effort.
This year should of been an Olympic year and would of produced many top candidates but sadly wasn’t the case. With that in mind I can only think of Hamilton as someone that has achieved great success.

I thought RBL were doing ok right up to the moment Ed commented on how strong their CBs look. Think he did something similar regarding Mourinho when Spurs were 3 nil up. Please Ed never compliment a Liverpool player mid game!
I commentated during the match how pleased (through gritted teeth) that Utd’s first goal was allowed and how VAR was used. Would also like to say it was good to see Rashford’s first goal given after it was incorrectly ruled out. This is what VAR should be used for, obvious mistakes. I think our refs could learn a few things from how it is implemented in the European games.
As mentioned I thought some of RBL game was pretty good with their fast one touch passing right up until the final ball, either the wrong decision or just not good enough.

The utd goal wouldn’t of been given in the PL but im actually glad it was. It looked to me like he might of been offside but I couldn’t be sure. VAR should be there for clear and obvious mistakes and borderline offsides or not are never clear and obvious. It was good to see a very quick check with no dubious lines draw in or dodgy crosshairs placed on armpits or shirt sleeves.

I don’t think anyone ie being bribed, I don’t think there is any conspiracy either. What I think is the refs are now relying on the guy behind var to help out and thus have lowered their standards and the guy behind var wants to back up his mate on the pitch. And its ruining my enjoyment of the game in a big way. When a goal is scored I don’t get excited, I just sit and wait for a couple of minutes while someone tries their hardest to either confirm it is or chalk it off, depending on what the pitch side ref has done.
They still are ignoring the pitch side monitors. Why? The ref in the middle should be the one in control and be the one making the decisions.

There was a replay showing one of the penalty shouts for SU that looked a very likely pen, I assume HH is talking about that one?
I don’t think there’s a conspiracy, I don’t think think a ref or VAR ref have a vendetta or anything, I just think they are crap at their job and are ruining it for everyone. Last season was bad but this time it seems worse. And VAR was supposed to solve all these issues?!

Mav, sky sports us 10eur in addition to the basic sky package. So including HD and netflix I think 45 a month. If I wanted bundesesliga that’s another 10 a month but us every single game. Very good deals.
Back to the game we are lucky to still be in this.

I thought he got the ball first. Contact afterwards but its a contact sport. Wasn’t aggressive or anything. And the contact happened outside.
Refs are on a mission to ruin the game this season it seems. I enjoy European games much more as every other country has far superior refs and use of var.

The Echo did a piece on using a 4231 as SU use 5 at the back and with 4 stickers they can play in the channels in between. Should be interesting.

I get all the games on Sky for 10eur a month. Took out a free trial for Dazn so I get the CL games too and then it reverts to 11eur a month running contract. Pretty reasonable!
You lot get bled dry to watch football!

Tactical foul from GΓ»ndogan and as clear a booking as you’ll see but no card. The standard of referring in this league is shocking.
Good goal from West Ham, nothing lucky about it, but bad from a City point of view.

“No Matip or Thiago in training at Melwood today. Fabinho set to start at CB alongside Gomez v Ajax.
Centre-backs Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams set to travel as part of the squad. #LFC”– James Pearce

You can’t judge the strength of a league based on one game, PSG will still be one of the favorites for the CL. This was a superb performance by Utd, tactically they looked spot on, very balanced and gave no space for PSG’s forwards to run in behind.
Regarding the double penalty, the PSG goalie’s foot was clearly off the line so by the new rules no issues with the retake but I’m not a fan of this stuttering run up. This surely disadvantages the goalie who will likely make his move anticipating a normal run up. When the ball is struck the goalie is likely already off his line due to the stutter. So it’s either going to be a goal or a retake, not really fair in my opinion.
edit: how bad is that Utd kit?!

Favorite calamity, easy! Peter Enckleman in a derby in front of the opposition fans.
Edit: clip doesn’t show the Birmingham fan run onto the pitch and give Enckleman a rude hand gesture right in his face. If you’ve seen it you’ll remember it!
