As an expat living in Germany I get asked all the time about Brexit. “What were you guys thinking?!”, I can only shrug and apologise. Then they laugh. A lot. My country that I am proud that I was born in and served is now the laughing stock of Europe. Only the US and Trump gets more comedy coverage! I now tell people that I am Irish-British and trying to be more on the Irish side of it, if only I could nail the accent! (thank you Good Friday agreement!)
Although I voted to remain I am one of the few that will actually come out better off. I often send money from my DE bank to my UK one and when I first arrived it was 1.4EUR to the Pound. Now it’s around 1.1 and I get that lovely feeling of knowing just how far my Euro goes. I hate to think what you guys think when you go on your holibobs to Costa del Sol or wherever!
Anyway to get back to the theme of the thread, yes there will be job losses in Germany and the rest of Europe if no deal is agreed, yes it’s probably best if they could agree something but the general feeling is that no one really that much cares about the UK, you’re just not that important anymore, and that the rest of Europe will be ok without you.

I think a Brexit thread could always lead to confrontation as it’s a highly emotive subject. I created a Premier League Brexit outcome purely for football issues, I think it’s best to stay clear of politics on a forum.

“Boomer is an informal term for baby boomer, a person born during the baby boom (sharp increase in birthrates) after World War II. This generation generally includes anyone born in the US between 1946–65, a time of great economic prosperity.” 😀

It wasn’t a good comment that Ed rightly deleted, probably best to be left that way Mak to be honest. Looking at 442’s attack on Brian in the Brexit thread I’m guessing he wasn’t having a good day yesterday and thought an online footie forum was the best way to vent!

It’s not about them being professional athletes, I am sure they could play 5 games a day in they wanted to, it’s about maintaining the ultra high standard that’s the problem. Instead of playing at 100% they might need to play at 80 or 70 and we will all moan on how poor our game is. Or they try maintain their top level and get injured. Something has to give.

That is not the Dortmund philosophy. They sell when the big boys come calling because they offer insane amounts of money for their players but their primary goal is to topple Bayern. They have some of the best youth prospects in Europe coming through and a good first team with leaders already in place. Arsenal look like a small rowing boat drifting aimlessly out at sea with a small hole in it. Whoever takes that on has a big task to get them back where they want to be.
Agree on London being the better pull mind. Dortmund is like a bigger version of Derby. Functional, bland and any visit is easily forgettable!

I think who would replace Arteta would depend on who is available at the time, assuming he doesn’t turn things around.
Hasenhuttl? Rodgers? Arsenal is still a step up for those guys.
Don’t think any of the highly rated CL team managers would move until the end of the season, like Nagelsmann or Gasperini.
And Dortmund are looking for a manager and I think it’s fair to say they at the moment they would be the more attractive proposition.
I could see Tuchel getting fired from PSG once they go out the CL and he might be an option for Arsenal (doubt he would go back to BvB), but that might be too long a time to wait. Maybe they fire Arteta and stick someone in charge as a caretaker till someone they want becomes successful. The problem is if the caretaker does well with the new manager feel good bounce and gets the job full time even though they are not the right person.

In Germany Harvertz was always regarded as a pretty versatile player. He predominantly played as a 10 but some experts thought he future could have been as an 8. The new Ballack was the slightly predictable name given. He also occasionally played as a false 9 as a bit of a Firmino style forward. I don’t think he ever played on the wings.
Was he Lampard’s choice? Surely Frank and his scouting team would know where he plays best and how to fit him in their system. At the moment it looks like he is being played to justify the purchase and a bit of a square peg in a round hole.

Undoubtedly a potential issue Nil but this is a discussion about the effects on the Premier League so let’s keep it football related.

Alisson
TAA
Fabinho
Matip
Robbo
Jones
Henderson
Gini
Salah
Mane
BobbyThis is the team that is doing the rounds from some “mole” twitter accounts apparently. Although to be fair I think with our injury list most of us would of guessed that team anyway.

I think Ole is actually pretty good at setting up a counter attacking team and versus City he will be happy conceding possession and use the speed of his front players like he has done recently versus them.

The flip-flop nature of Ole’s reign at Utd, as in tactical genius one week and needs to be sacked the next, means that Utd will definitely win the Manchester derby and Ole will survive a bit longer. Absolute nailed on. This is as guaranteed as a Utd transfer once Sean has declared on this site it is happening.
If however somehow the above doesn’t happen and maybe City tonk Utd by 4 or more then Utd could well be looking for a manager on Sunday. As a Liverpool fan this game is a win-win situation really no matter what the result and I am looking forward to it.

Possible last 16 for the English teams:
Chelsea: Atalanta. Atletico, Barca. BMG, Lazio, Porto, RBL
Liverpool: Atletico, Barca, BMG, Lazio, Porto, RBL, Sevilla
City: Atalanta, Atletico, Barca, BMG, Lazio, RBLFull list attached.
Would love to see a City v Barca game. Has Pep ever faced one of his previous teams? Last City vs Barca was with Pellegrini right?

Because he thought it was a pen Nil, I think most people did. He can’t blow the whistle because he wants to look at the screen, he has to have a reason and he made that in a split second. And he came to the correct decision in a quick and professional way.

Really not understanding your problem with the ref nil. It was a crazy thing to do by Mane and I thought it was a pen first viewing in real time. The ref went to the screen, something we all been wanting them to do for ages and pretty quickly change the decision to the correct one. Only thing he didn’t do correct was not issue Coady a yellow for diving. But for me Pawson and VAR did its job well.

You cannot sign South American players unless they either meet the work permit criteria (which I doubt youngsters do) or they have a European second nationality and from next transfer window the above will apply to them also. No more Garcia, Martinelli, Fabregas, Suso, Deulefeu etc.(think they all came from Barcelona academy and I am sure there are dozens more in the Premier League from other places).

Brian, top English sides have for a while now poached youngsters from overseas academies. Where do you think the likes of Eric Garcia come from? This will no longer be allowed although I am not sure what will happen the other way, will the next Sancho be allowed to move away? As Nine says this could lead to English top teams missing out on the top young talent. As I said, it will lead to clubs having more reliance on their youth development and youth recruitment within the UK borders.
