Joao Felix:
23/23 11m loan fee to Chelsea. Flopped.
23/24 Loan to Barcelona. Flopped.
24/25 45m and another 7 year contact transfer to Chelsea.Fair play to Chelsea, they are going all in trying to take Leeds Utd’s title away from them as the worst run club in PL history.

Money and power talks and they have a lot, but this is the PL which is effectively a collection of the other teams including the most powerful and successful ones plus Spurs. We shall see…
But unless there is evidence that they did no wrong, as opposed to insignificant that they did cheat and thus get away with it, then no its not a great achievement by Pep. I would say its like Lance Armstrong but his was at least against other cheats and thus equal footing! It’s more a Ben Johnson, and he deserved no respect.

Predicting they will be first team to finish top and be relegated in the same season. Maybe wishful thinking!
Doesn’t matter what Pep or city achieve it will always be questioned and dismissed. Think that upsets Peps ego a little!

It’s his lack of mobility Ed that’s the issue. Good on the ball, big and strong, very good when facing the ball but like Maguire hasn’t the turn of speed when it’s played behind or around him. He struggles against nimble forwards. He has overall pace to some degree when up and running, a bit like what we had with Matip. Those over his shoulder balls really caught him out because he couldn’t turn and accelerate fast enough and I think de Ligt will have the same issues.
I say he is good on the ball and he is when playing from the back but apparently was dropped at BM because Tuchel wanted long diagonals to the forwards from his centre back and De Ligt isn’t good at. Probably under Ten Hag this won’t be an issue due to play style.

Yeah it’s odd Sean, and putting them on 7 year contracts. It could be they loan them out, build up their reputation and sell for profit but its harder to shift players on fst 7 year contracts. All while the actual team struggles on the pitch as they haven’t invested in quality for the now.
Speaking of Chelsea, I saw the highlights versus City from a few days ago. Ended 4-2 to City, but you should see how Chelsea struggled with the new system of playing out from the back.

Talk about melodramatic. There’s always anger and hate in the world, it what humans are good at, just these days it’d both easier to spread it and easier to take be exposed to it.

Opps sorry Ed, seems putting two links in a post upsets the system (This post is awaiting moderation).
Anyway, the 24/25 PL handbook is released with no changes to the financial side, so either City’s challenge to the APT with regards to FMV is still ongoing or, more likely as was a while ago, they lost.

Southgate gone. Whose your pick to succeed?
I’d say Howe if they want to English. Not the best tactically but at least he plays exciting football.

Walker is neither an excellent defend or good going forward. He switches off too much to be considered an excellent defender but most of the time can get out of jail with his pace. Technically he his very lacking and this shows going forward as he cannot contribute the way Trent or even Trippiar can.

“Not sure which England will turn up tomorrow night.”
You mean the crap and boring one or the boring and crap one?

And they’re not even that great a team, not compared to some of the Spain teams we had over the last 16 years or so.
Football seems to be lacking quality individuals, or is it the tactics nullify the talents?

The Dutch looked 2nd best for large amounts of the game because the Turks pressed well. As soon as they sat back the Dutch took control. This could be England’s issue as they haven’t shown any prolonged pressing yet and Kane is walking through games. Let the Dutch play and they can be dangerous.

Find it crazy how little England press, especially when many of thr players are used to it from playing for their clubs. It’s like watching Sheffield Utd but with better players.

Big quarter final up first with probably the best two teams Germany and Spain. Shame this isn’t the final to be honest. Think Spain have playing better thus far but I have to support the Germans.
Here’s hoping the tournament really takes off entertainment wise!

Agree with your assessment of England Sean but they are not the only fancied team to underperform.
France have looked just as slow as England but also find themselves in the quarters. Belgium played like a lower division team trying a giant killing in the fa cup, The Dutch have struggled.
Only Spain and to a slightly lesser extent Germany have looked fluid and exciting from the favorites, and lucky for everyone else they meet on Friday.
The only others that’s impressed are the more unfancied like Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia and Slovakia (not seen Turkey yet, weirdly last nights game wasn’t on free tv over here). And that’s down to good coaching.

Sign of the times Mav, teams play conservative possesion football with lessened risk these days. You could say it started with Pep but you even have Burnely doing it now! And I think most intentional teams also. Bring back the heavy metal football from only a few years ago! Think only Austria have played anywhere near that sort of style.
Was going to post a topic on this forum about how football style has evolved (devolved?) into this, might do when the football has finished or we’ve all switched off in boredom!
