Specialised DM and what? Drop Gravenberch our players of the season so far and probably most in form midfielder in the league?

I don’t think we need a clinical no 9, just one that influences play more than Nunez and Jota. Bobby Firmino like, who is always involved and makes things happen. Although I remember when we were hammering everyone left right and centre people still asked for more goals from him or from the midfielders.

Sean, what did you think of our old mate Nunez? I actually thought he played very well, he looks fired up this season and works very hard and is holding the ball up much better. I would have him in over Jota who makes the attack look disjointed a lot of the time as he has poor link up play.

Said it before but I think a new no 9 should be a priority.

Glad Nunez scored a goal even he would struggle to miss, but my first thought was “hope he isnt offside knowing him!”.

As much as I a was gutted to see it the John Stones goal decision was 100% correct. Silva does make minor contact with Sa as the ball is played in but nothing beyond the rules and you can’t be offside from a corner. When Stones heads it Silva is no longer interfering with play so dosnt matter that he’s in an offside position. Very clever and within the rules.

Well it’s a German singing about ‘God’ saving someone of German heritage. “God save Charles Saxe-Coburg-Gotha!” as he should be called. Wonder what Adlab would have thought on this!

As a manager I said I didn’t want him at Liverpool. He’s pragmatic, and most likely more talented than Southgate, so he could win things. Just don’t expect to be entertained.

I’m sure the PL and Masters are quaking in their boots at the thought of Football and Political expert Noel Gallagher getting involved. Or they could just put it down to a famous loud mouth fan using his former glory to rant and stomp his feet that no one will care about.

Well this thread tool an unexpected turn! Clear that Rover has strong political views but I don’t see that value of discussing it in a football forum.

What I don’t understand is that some football fans accept or even encourage the behavior of the city owners. Football is a competitive sport and they are trying by whatever foul means possible to remove the competitive element from it. City fans are obviously revelling in the (tainted) success but they need a reality check, this is your sport that your owners are determined to ruin!

Going on from what Ed said once about City being AD’s choice because they are a reasonable size but desperate to step out of a bigger neighbours shadow, I agree with him it wouldn’t be tolerated by most Liverpool or Utd fans. We all like to win but some of us care about how and by what means, and Utd and LFC have already tasted massive success without resorting to cheating, we wouldnt accept it.

City could have easily have been Everton, I think there was interest. Wonder how Spurs fans would have felt, with Arsenal obviously casting a big successful shadow over them?

City Txiki Begiristain confirmed leaving at the end of the season. Coincidence? Or a rat jumping ship?

It is claimed a victory by both City and the PL. But who actually ‘won’?

After reading a fair bit online and trying to filter out some of the tribal stuff (fuelled it seems by a lot of clickbait including mainstream journalists) I can only see a small victory for City but a more successful defence for the PL.

City have won with share holder loans which are now to be subject of fair market value. A number of teams have used share holder loans at favourable terms, think LFC did this for the stadium expansion for example. I’m sure no retrospective punishment will happen but it will mean a different approach is needed by teams that use this approach. But the claims regarding the “tyranny of the majority”, that there are racist implications against City have been dismissed and most importantly that the APT rules remain in place.

A victory for City? Pyrrhic at best. I can’t see this having a major impact on the 115 (130?) but maybe more news develops today.

City are claiming a victory, aided it seems by City-favored jornos, but it doesnt seem that way to me. It seems a few minor issues were changed yet the actual APT rules remain the same. These are the rules that could have enabled the likes of City, NUFC and Chelsea to pump in whatever they like under the disguise of an associated sponsor.

“The Premier League welcomes the Tribunal’s findings, which endorsed the overall objectives, framework and decision-making of the APT system. The Tribunal upheld the need for the APT system as a whole and rejected the majority of Manchester City’s challenges. Moreover, the Tribunal found that the Rules are necessary in order for the League’s financial controls to be effective.

The Tribunal did, however, identify a small number of discrete elements of the Rules which do not, in their current form, comply with competition and public law requirements (more information below). These elements can quickly and effectively be remedied by the League and clubs. β€―”

I don’t think this is just about new players not settling, the team doesn’t look set right especially while defending. That comes from what they do on the training pitch and Ten Hag holds responsibility.

A lot is spoken about pressing these days and I think it was Danny Murphy who was saying its not just about energy and work rate, it about team cohesion and know who is doing what and how each player should then react.

That was silly from spurs. Yes you can win, but you’re not supposed to batter them and get him sacked! We can only hope (said it before) that the love between ineos and Southgate is true.

I didn’t see much of the game, actually turned it on just as the replays of their goal were being shown, so difficult to comment on what exactly went wrong. But by the sounds of it the players were rushing their passes and thus not connecting with them and it was all a bit uncontrolled and not what Slot is trying to do. Not surprising as he didnt have the week to work with the players as most were away and they probably reverted back to what is their more natural game, the higher tempo Klopp played at.

The previous games he had no disruptions and they continued from a sucessful preseason. I know all managers are affected by the international break to some degree, but it disrupts those trying to enforce a new style far more than those teams whose style is already ingrained. Hopefully this is just a one off being so early as coach of Liverpool.

Nil, couple of things. The Utd game was no where near a defeat, what you talking about? And why not replacing a player who barely ever played for us, spent last season on loan and had a reputation as a poor trainer leave disapointment? Makes zero sense. The club did well getting what they got for him.

That is one seriously weak midfield. Mainoo is good but can’t do everything himself.

Biggest issue last week for utd wasn’t Casemiro even though he had a shocker, it was the suicidal bombing forward as soon as possesion was gained especially by the fbs. Was too easy for Liverpool to exploit. Be interesting to see if Utd will still do this.

He won’t be gone for until Christmas at the very earliest. All good managers are in jobs. Admittedly there wasn’t a great amount available in the summer but that was the time utd needed to change, and having passed on that opportunity they should look again if needs be next summer. An interim manager again won’t do them any good. Keep with Ten Hag and get someone like Amorim next year.

Speaking of which, maybe an unpopular opinion but I think Utd would have been in a better place today if they kept Rangnick and listened to him and his choice of player.

Only saw the Arsenal Brighton game in fits and starts but whatbi did see it looked like Brighton were pretty good. They passed with good tempo.

That’s a hell of a result at Goodison. Snatching a defeat from the jaws of victory and now three defeats in a row. Pressure on Dyche already.

Don’t believe in the ‘new manager bounce’ myself, at least not in the psychological effect way. If the forms picks up after a change to the top its usually due to better tactics or man management. It also only gets reported on the rare occasions form picks up, most of the time it doesn’t.

I think with Spurs last season it was a bit of surprise to see a team do attack minded with little regard to actual defending that it took until the Chelsea game and that incredibly naive high line before their short comings were exposed.

The main thing for me when a new manager comes in is is there a well thought out system and do the players get it? For Slot I’d say yes to both. Even with Klopp when he first came in you could see what he was trying to do he just needed the right personnel or get current players up to the right fitness level.

Welcome to the Premier League Ipswich. That’s a tough 2 opening games to be fair.

Palace have lost players but still have a number of talented ones. I predict Wharton will be the 2025 Bellingham, as in everyone will be after him and lauding him as a generational talent.

                                          Think Brighton will beat Utd.

Easiest prediction is Spurs v Everton as Everton are looking very poor.

Chelsea won’t score 3 away from home. Or even at home. Or even accumulatively in 3 consecutive matches!

24/25 45m and another 7 year contact transfer to Chelsea.

Fair play to Chelsea, they are going all in trying to take Leeds Utd’s title away from them as the worst run club in PL history.
