Adlab that back line yesterday still cost more than probably any other defence in world football that played at the weekend. Ake 45m (?!), Cancelo 65m, Stones 55.6m (from transfermarkt in euros). Think Zinchenko was a tiny amount but the other 3 are top tier transfer fees.

16th April 2022 at 5:54 pm in reply to: Weekend Football GW 33 &๐ โฝ๏ธFA Cup Semi Finals ๐โฝ๏ธ๐ #195485Nil thats the thing, it only gets mentioned in a negative way. People don’t even notice it when things go well but it’s an important part of our play both defensive and offensive.

16th April 2022 at 4:31 pm in reply to: Weekend Football GW 33 &๐ โฝ๏ธFA Cup Semi Finals ๐โฝ๏ธ๐ #195479Nil we are playing with a very high line. Just because a team hasn’t beaten it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. It compacts the play are helps the press massively which is what you are seeing today. The most important player for this system is neither of the centre backs but Fabinho and he and the other two in the middle are playing superb.

9th April 2022 at 2:28 pm in reply to: โฝ๏ธWeekend Football GW 32 – Man City V Liverpoolโฝ๏ธ #195353Wow, got that prediction wrong, really over estimated utd against probably the most out-of form team in the league. Only caught the last 30 minutes but again utd didn’t look like they had any particular idea. Big job for whoever takes over not sure there’s a single player that’s top 4 quality on current form. Need probably the biggest rebuild in premiership history.

Rashford looks like he has fallen out of love with the game, but a new manager whose philosphy he taps into will sort him out no problem. There’s still a player there, but I can understand the comparison with what’s happened to Dele Alli.

Diaz has been superb but Jota has been poor despite a few goals. His link up play is very weak and goes missing. Agree Salah is looking far from his old self at the moment but I’m liking Mane through the middle.
Ali
TAA Konate VvD Robbo
Hendo Fab Thiago
Salah Mane DiazAlthough I cannot see this happening, think Diaz and Konate will be benched this season for the big games.

I’m sure the English clubs will be hoping for Benfica or Villareal. I’d even take Atletico Madrid as they are not as good as they were a year or two ago and we’ve already beaten them home and away. Can see one huge draw happening, like City versus Bayern or something like that. Hope I haven’t jinxed it for Liverpool!

Salah an injury doubt for tomorrow.
He has missed just 3 games for Liverpool due to injuries and only 15 in his professional career going back to his days at Basel. Crazy stats.

An odd game, with a bit more quality up front I think Palace could have won that. Gallagher was good, his pressing was immense although his decision making was sometimes a little off.
But what about Pep not making any subs when clearly his plan wasn’t working? Bernardo Silva was having a shocker yet Sterling and Jesus, so often the saviour, remained on the bench. Even Gundogan would have added a goal threat as he often pops up in good positions when they really need him.
A few seasons ago this would of been seen as a solid away point but Pep and Klopp have set the bar so high now any dropped points is a dissapoinmemt. It’s likely one of City or Liverpool will get 90+ points and still come second.
One thing City seem to be lacking is leaders. A few of them seem to throw their arms about when things go wrong but none rally the team or take control.
Grealish was never going to walk in to a Pep team and perform well without changing his style. He carries the ball forward and direct, Pep doesn’t play like that. It was an odd signing and I think Pep is shoehorning other players into unfamiliar positions just to accommodate Jack.

A lot of understandable emotion around. Roman deserved to be sanctioned and sadly for Chelsea fans their club suffering is one of the consequences of such action, but there are far more important matters in the world at the moment. Chelsea fans have my sympathy but I also agree with the sanctioning although that doesn’t mean I want a rival team to suffer.
The chanting however especially during the applause for Ukraine was utterly despicable. And it didn’t sound like a few either, shameful for your club.

What’s Ragnicks role beyond this season? An “adviser” right? What influence does he have regarding the next manager?
I ask as I mentioned before Utd need a long term strategy in place where they change managers but keep the same theme going forward regarding staff and player recruitment. Is Ralf the start of that? Does this mean Utd will go down the largely German Gegenpress high energy route? Its a proven successful style with the right players. Problem is there’s only one elite level manager that plays that way and there’s no way he’d join a main rival, so who else? Hassenhรผttl? Marco Rose from Dortmund?
This sounds ridiculous but if Utd end up going for the Contes, Zidanes and Ancelottis of this world then it makes the appointment of Ragnick even more absurd.

Chelsea will continue to operate under license and players and staff will continue to be paid. Only season ticket holders can attend (not sure on away supporters) and the shop will close. The sanction is to stop Roman making any money from the club, not to punish the club itself. What it means beyond this season I guess no one knows.

Man utds problems run deeper than who the current manager is. They need a club strategy where they identify a style and buy players that fit. When they change managers they continue this theme meaning they don’t have to start all over again each time.
Look at City and how many players Pep inherited that already fit his system, one I believe the City hierarchy were always aiming for.
Rangnick was never going to work with his high energy style with players like Pogba, Ronaldo and Fernandes. Likewise a slow defender like Maguire would never be suitable to a high line tactic that most top teams play, or Wan Bissaka a full back that can defend well but offers little going forward.
I’ve said for a few years I have no idea what style of play Utd are trying to play. It seems they buy big players and shoehorn them in without any thought to the outcome.

I’d rather take political advice from the Beano than the Sun! I won’t read what they put as I will not read anything from them but I bet its over dramatic sensationalist rubbish designed just to sell papers or get clicks.

Harry, at the start of ww2 Finland was sided with Germany but faced the Ussr alone in a defensive war. Later they fought with Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuation_War
In the last part of ww2 they fought against Germany in what’s called the Lapland war after a truce was agreed with the Soviets and to expel German forces from Finland.
These days Finland would probably be of interest to Russia as its strategically well placed and I don’t think is part of NATO. But at the moment I wouldn’t be concerned, apart from the fuel prices.
