That was a red?! A foul clearly and maybe a yellow but never a red. Think the arsenal (over)reaction made the decision.

Not seen what Neville has done but I’m guessing he’s highlighted some of the human rights abuses in the lead up to the World Cup. For me this is a good thing as its a shadow that Fifa and the broadcasters will surely sweep under the carpet once the games begin. Bet Mr Neville wouldn’t have done that if his employers had the rights to broadcast.
Sport can be a great billboard for political views as it reaches a vast audience that may not have been aware of the issues beforehand. The problem is its only acceptable to us if we agree with that political viewpoint. For example I’m sure all on here would agree that that the human rights issues should be highlighted but I bet we all took offence to that russian gymnast who wore a Z on his top at a medal ceremony. We probably all agree that the rainbow armbands are good as the word that football is fully inclusive should be spread but I bet there’s a number of religious nut jobs out there that will take offence. It’s as chucky said in his opening post about one man’s terrorist being another man’s freedom fighter.
The Olympics has always outlawed polical views I believe and have done a pretty good job.

RBL are the most hated team in Germany and RBS I’d assume are also in Austria but by heck they have a top notch youth scouting system. You put a team together from their explayers and it would probably be world class. Sesko looks like the next big thing from them.

That was a “challenge” straight from a Sunday league game! Funny he immediately claimed to have got the ball, like that’s going to justify it. Crazy.

Adlab it doesn’t need a discussion its just he used the isolated shouting from the Liverpool Ajax game to state how very poor it was Liverpool fans and something about demanding respect which sounded close to a very inappropriate comment.
I didn’t hear it I watch football with the volume muted these days that was just what the BBC blog reported.

“There was some noise, which seemed to be coming from the concourse underneath the stand where the Manchester City fans are during that silence.
There were demands for quiet, which were heeded, then a bit more noise.
The Wolves fans booed when the silence was over.” BBC blog.
Any comments gjblues?

He won’t pick TAA as a starter, for one he is in poor form but more importantly he is far to adventurous for a Southgate team. Likely James will get the nod or Trippier if he deploys the bore the opposition to tears then grab a goal from a freekick tactic.
The only reason I can of for TAA being included in the final WC squad is if England are chasing a game and Southgate gets a little dizzy in the head and decides he needs that attacking threat.

Sometimes you have to just acknowledge good play and the Ajax goal was superb.
Could TAA have done better? Getting bypassed happens but when Matip goes to cover TAA should have bust his gut filling in for the centre back. He didn’t, he strolled as usual.
Could VvD done better? He seems to stand off players in the box with his hands behind his back a lot these days, I’d prefer him to challenge and make the player rush.
But there was something like 34 passes before that goal, I read a CL record for Ajax. Where was the press? Where was the midfield when the ball made it into Liverpool’s final 3rd?
Overall we played pretty good. Same story however, create some good chances but not clinical enough. Jota looked lively however. Think Ajax only made 3 attempts at goal which says our defence and high line must of been doing something right apart from their goal which was excellent.

Many people will have lost a lot of money with these games cancelled with no chance of getting it back. In these days of austerity I feel that is more important than mourning a 96 year old that you have no family connection to. Finding the whole reaction a little ridiculous to be honest.

I don’t think it’s what he wants it what he is told to do. The move infield is a deliberate change of tactic from Klopp I assume to get more through balls to our new more orthodox striker. For me this isn’t working.

I don’t mean Fabinho or fa Gino as he’s otherwise know needs to stand in the right full back position when TAA goes off on one but he needs to do so much more to prevent the ball getting out to a player there. He is bypassed so easily and doesn’t bother to recover leaving the defence exposed. If TAA is upfield then Gomez has to come across leaving the middle wide open.
This isn’t all Fabinho fault the whole defence is a shambles but often people just blame the centre backs without looking at the bigger picture. Elliot’s lack of defensive awareness is costly and ideally he should only play at home against weaker low block teams who don’t have someone that can exploit the right side.

I said from the very beginning Liverpool could struggle adapting to accommodate a new type of forward but I never expected the midfield and defence to be bad.
The popular idea with liverpool is we are poor because we didn’t buy some magical midfielder who would solve all of this and playing James Milner.
My unpopular view and I’ve been saying it since the middle of last season is Fabinho’s poor form is mostly to blame and if I were Klopp he’d be the one I’d look to replace.
His position is so important to Klopp’s system that when he has a bad game the defence is wide open either through the middle or down the right. TAA’s new role of coming into midfield means he is even further away from covering his position than a normal attacking fullback would be on a turnover and Fabinho needs to be on his no 1 game to prevent being exposed but he never is anymore. He just jogs about half arsed.
This of course doesn’t detract away fact that VvD, TAA and in particular Gomez were terrible last night. Gomez played the worst defensive performance I’ve seen since that infamous Lovren one against Spurs at Wembley.
I would like to revert TAA back to his pre 2021 role of an attacking fullback and not trying to make him our Kevin de Bruyne in the middle of the pitch also.
Nil, Ox and Keita are still on the books because Edwards and his team gave them huge contracts that no other team is willing to pay and rightfully so they are not willing to take a cut with. And you cannot terminate their contracts, they have to mutually agree and that works out as or even more expensive than letting run it down.

Never seen Robertson play a full 90 at right back. Yes in matches he swaps full back due to being on that side for a set piece but never a full 90. Of course I’m sure they have looked at this in training but as he has never done it I think they decided against it.
Roberto Carlos wasn’t a great defender but fantastic going forward. Maldini was more of a cente back and a legendary one at that. Zanetti was class. But none of them were a full back and playmaker. That’s what we have with Trent and for the liverpool style he is absolutely integral.
The defensive unit as a whole hasn’t been good enough so far, not just one player.

Who would you drop TAA for nil? Milner? Ramsay who is still injured? Gomez who you want to cut from the team?
TAA is the best RB in the world for how liverpool play. He is off form but then so is Virgil but I never see people questioning his place in the team. Gomez whilst not being outstanding he has been our best defender so far.
I see Arthur Melo as a Thiago understudy/rotation due to his skill set. Maybe the hope is their future injuries will coincide with each others recoveries?

He won the first game against Villa who might end up being a relegation rival.

30th August 2022 at 6:43 am in reply to: Game Week 4 – Will The Real Manc Shady Please Stand-Up, Please Stand-Up…. #198366“There is a limit to City spend”
There’s also a limit to the Universe but it’s still pretty big!
Thing is Brian, and I mean this with respect, is that you are clearly a man with a lot of football memories and I think has a fondness towards “the good ol days”. Yet in many peoples eyes including my own your team City has done more in the country than any other in the history of football to move the sport away from those traditions and turn it into a rich state’s vanity play thing. Other teams have spent a lot in the past and even now but they do that from their own success on and off the pitch, City are a lower Premier League level club that should normally be seeing mid table as a success yet have effectively won the lottery and are looking to make the league a formality every season like in France or Germany.
You could argue Chelsea have done the same and to a point I’d agree and hence why I believe there is resentment towards them also from other fans but at least they were on their way to the top at the time.
City have done some great things for the area I am sure. They are incredibly well run, from the boardroom to the coaching staff to some very clever and no doubt well paid lawyers. They also have owners with a more than dubious reputation when it comes to human rights and are using the club as a form of sportswashing yet when mentioned you conveniently decide sport and politics shouldn’t mix. Well to a lot of fans that does matter.
As for Adlab going on about Utd’s spending and debt, well I don’t know their finances but I am sure the signings are not putting on more debt, they will come from the revenue they generate. Do you think teams that don’t have a sugardaddy like your’s shouldn’t be allowed to make big signings no matter how they control their finances and remain within the legal parameters?
I thought about this a bit recently and I say it partially in jest but fans of other teams should be thanking Liverpool for at least making the league semi-interesting. Without us City would steamroll every season and turn it into a formallity like the aforementioned French and German leagues, how boring would that be? It’s already what 4/5? 5/6? I cannot remember, but without Liverpool it would be a clean sweep. I hope the likes of Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea can close the gap by speeding however and make the league competitive again.

“amount of different center half partners Van Dijk has so far played withβ¦β¦.”
And all of them are out performing Van Dijk at the moment. He looks like he think he doesn’t need to work hard anymore.

Not sure how you can justify that Mikus. With Nunez we could possibly have lost by more goals but we’ll never now because he stupidly got schooled and sent off in his last game. The whole team was once again very poor. Elliot our best with a 6, the rest 4s and 5s. Virgil maybe a 3.

Is that for the Sky exclusive coverage of the pre match riot/protest? Can just imagine Matin Tyler “Next Utd fans storm the directors box…And it’s LIVE!”
