2nd January 2023 at 6:31 pm in reply to: Weekend Part Two: Week 1: Or maybe 17: Don’t really know anymore… #202209
Ironically I did, thought it was a great first touch. Maybe when you’re in the goals you think less and just play on instinct and it would have been a goal.
Yes we are bullied. But we are also misplacing all over the place. Weak or mis aimed passes by nearly everyone. I’d hook Elliot at HT for Keita.

2nd January 2023 at 6:24 pm in reply to: Weekend Part Two: Week 1: Or maybe 17: Don’t really know anymore… #202206Was worried when I saw that midfield. Thiago and Fabinho can only start together when they have a strong runner with them. Unfortunately Henderson is the only strong runner we have and his legs are on the way out. Elliot is a great player but not for this system and should never be in a midfield with those two.
Having said that the defence is the most shocking today. Konate unfortunate but the marking for the offside disallowed goal was non existent and then nearly as bad for the 2nd goal. Feel for Alisson trying to bail this lot out all the time.
Nunez.. unlucky I guess. Another big chance missed however.

31st December 2022 at 3:45 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202115If a club is to match a release clause the amount must be in full or the selling club can reject it. Spreading across the contract length is just a thing the accountants do, rarely rhe fee actually follows this. Of course the selling club could negotiate so that it is in installments if they wanted to, just like they could negotiate to a lower fee. But for an activation of a release clause with no resistance it must be in full.

31st December 2022 at 2:09 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202095Nil the football was by all accounts pretty good and I’m pleased most of you enjoyed it. I think the WC has been done to death by now so let’s concentrate on the transfer window for this thread.

31st December 2022 at 1:39 pm in reply to: Weekend Part Two: Week 1: Or maybe 17: Don’t really know anymore… #202086Sorry Sean that wasn’t an assist for Nunez. Not sure an OG can ever have an assist to be honest as I think an assist needs to be intentional.
“Among the players in Europe’s top 10 leagues with 500 or more minutes played this season, Nunez ranks first for shots per 90 minutes (6.0), but 99th for goals per 90 minutes (0.57).
He has had 52 attempts on goal in the Premier League this season but scored just five goals, while he has missed more big chances in the league (14) than any other player.”
As said if he could actually finish he would be deadly and be already 9 or 10 goals better off. But at the moment he is lacking in the composure needed for an elite striker. Hopefully Klopp can coach that in but as Chelsea saw with Werner it isn’t as simple as that. We shall see.
Agree regarding Konate it’s his time to take the spot for his own.

Not asking for specific names as none of us are professional scouts and know every player, just what sort of midfielder. Some ask for more goals from midfield, others more creativity.
I want more intensity, more legs. Fabinho was a fantastic DM but his form has fallen of a cliff but is that all his fault? Maybe putting players with better legs and regain the intense press will help him as he won’t have huge areas to cover when running isn’t his no 1 attribute. Would love the next Kante whoever that could be.

30th December 2022 at 10:14 pm in reply to: Weekend Part Two: Week 1: Or maybe 17: Don’t really know anymore… #202055Mikus is right midfield is the route if our problems has been all season. Need high intensity players there. He’s a great footballer and probably our best in the middle tonight but just don’t think Thiago is suited. Obviously not tonight but I don’t think you can play him and Fabinho together they just are too immobile. Henderson seems to lose all his ability when playing the 6. Keita did pretty good, could had been such a good player for us if not for injuries and inconsistencies.
Nunez, he is still chaos. Defenders have no idea what he will do next, pity his team mates or himself do neither! Getting into good positions but lacking the composure needed from an elite striker. Hopefully this can be fixed and he could be a top player, but his skill set does remind me of Werner and he didn’t last long in the premier-league.

30th December 2022 at 8:06 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202027Sean and Nil, 1st rule of footydebate remember? Dont upset the Chelsea lads! Although I used to love seeing the old Stamford Bridge with the cars parked behind the goal, always wanted it to my dads car there!
Rumours of Enzo to Chelsea and Caicedo to Liverpool doing the rounds. Think liverpool need the athletic type so would be happy with the Ecuadorian. Brighton really have a top scouting network don’t they?

30th December 2022 at 3:10 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202006Football is different, football is a competive sport intended to entertain. Your owners are trying to turn it into a monopoly for their own benefit and you are lapping it up with the promise of gifts and success. Ed hit the nail on the head when he said they targeted success deprived clubs in City and Newcastle as they knew their fan base would accept the promise of success without any questions about if they should or not.

30th December 2022 at 3:04 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202005Adlab why would Newcatle fans cry about the Saudi take over? Think you are missing the point of the discussion
Speaking of Newcastle Saudi take over one of the best comments was in reply to the Newcasle LGBTQ statement welcoming the take over. It was something along the lines of “So it’s OK you kill people in your country like us as long as you buy us nice gifts”.

30th December 2022 at 8:44 am in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #201979The anti City rhetoric as always is driven by jealousy and double standards from some who have previously admitted they wished they had been as lucky as City and many United fans hope for a Middle East takeover to restore them to their former glories.
What a load of generalising rubbish. Some might yes, but it isnt “always” driven by jealousy at all. In germany RBL amd Hoffenheim are hated by other fans even those from Munich, you think they are jealous? Some of us just don’t like those that get an unfair elevation due to rich owners and then spout about how well run they are.

29th December 2022 at 9:19 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #201972Pretty difficult for me to judge the situation back then as it was before my time. Did other teams fans resent Liverpool? No idea, but I am talking about now. If City win the league this year, and lets face it they will, it will be 5 out of the last 6 season with only a remarkable season by Liverpool stopping a perfect 6, that just has never happened before. As I said you are a very well run club but lets be honest you won the lottery to put you on the path to success, it wasnt earnt.
Of course people could still say the City project still hasnt been a total success as they are still missing the biggest title in club football. Sure that will change sometime soon.
No fans apart from the teams fans in question want total dominance. Its boring as hell. Living in Germany I know how unexcited fans are about a league where they already know the winner before the season starts!
Nil, he has had 3 jobs and they were always the clubs with the most resources. Interestingly the Bayern fans do not see his tenure as a success as he didnt win them the CL and introduced more boring football than his predecessor. To them he did the bare minimum expected. He is a great coach but one that can only work with already great players and he does take them that extra step, I couldn’t see him do to Liverpool or Dortmund what Klopp did.

29th December 2022 at 7:41 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #201961There’s no denying City are an incredibly well run club now, but lets not pretend they got there without a massive helping hand taking them from mid table obscurity to the top of the pyramid. One thing that’s guaranteed to meet a hostile reaction from other fans is City fans playing the “we earnt our success as we are so well run thjng” when everyone knows how you got to that position originally.

29th December 2022 at 4:58 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #201949There is far more conplicatwd factors to consider than net spend, bought him for whatever and sold him for this etc. Agent fees, loyalty bonus, signing on bonus for player agent and family, wages, dodgy book avoiding payments (looking at you Mancini).
How much does Haaland actually earn when taking into account his bonuses which apparently are very easy to hit, just shy of a million or something? And then add the 40m for his family and agent. But the arguments are always City are so good they got the best young striker for 60m what a great recruitment team they have. And for a team who if they didn’t have such owners no top player would consider joining as they would be a yo-yo club or mid table at best.

29th December 2022 at 12:18 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #201929Ed, think it was reported in the Mail that talks are advancing regarding Depay but obviously take that with a pinch of salt.
Regarding owners I think they will always be the one fans to blame as they are often seen as the tight, money grabbing, profit before anything businessmen. But sometimes the decision to buy or not buy is made far from the boardroom. Take Liverpool as an example, Martin Edwards is lauded by most fans yet the decision to keep Keita and Ox is criticised yet it was during his tenure that the big contracts were handed to them making them unsellable. No one blames him. I suspect Klopp has often said no to buying certain players when I am sure the money is available yet he will never be to blame, always the owners. As fans it is easier and makes us feel good to just blame the “bad guys”!
Regarding Enzo, yeah Benfica did well. Apparently Liverpool were after him but didn’t go for it for what ever reason (lets blame the owners!) and now he will cost a fortune. Looking like to Chelsea?
Latest midfield links to liverpool are Elmas from Napoli and Macallister from Brighton. Both more attacking minded than what we have previously been linked with.

27th December 2022 at 8:14 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #201883I think we can all agree to wait and see how he has done by the end of the season.
Reading that whilst Liverpool are linked to a big midfield player for the summer, obvious two are Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez, we are linked to a less expensive probably DM player this winter with a view to challenge Fabinho and maybe replace him eventually. The names Florentino Luis (Benfica) and Joao Gomes (who I think is likely as the Brazilian league is over I think) have been mentioned along with the Morrocan Amrabat. I didnt watch much of the WC but heard he had a good one, what is he like? Would find it odd if the club buys a player solely based on one tournament and at 26 his club record doesnt exactly stand out to me.

27th December 2022 at 3:56 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #201876Read today but cannot find it again the Nunez has the worst big chance conversion rate in the league. He works hard, he is very quick but pretty awful at timing his runs (offside!) and has terrible shooting ability. When not offside he gets in good positions but I have very little confidence he will do anything useful with it. Look at the times he dragged his shot last night, or that chance from about 5 yards when he basically jumped over the ball. Was he trying and failing to do one of those flick goals again (think he luckily scored one against City in the CS when it bounced off his wrong foot after an earlier failed attempt), again a big sign of poor decision making.
Bit generous saying he got an assist last night, his low cross was palmed to the liverpool scorer by the goalie, Nunez didn’t pick him out. (Just checked, no assist).
