That’s kinda my point Sean, I don’t think he is in the right mindset anymore for such a challenge. This is the route of all the issues, handing over to others and losing the Klopp influence.

There’s many opinions as to why things are so bad this season. It’s Klopps fault, it’s FSGs fault, it’s Mo Salahs contract fault, it’s an aging squad fault, its a crippling injury lists fault. Whilst these all might have an impact (not Mo’s contract mind!) my opinion is the biggest impact to a teams performance is what happens on the training pitch. You can point at individual performances or mistakes but ask why these are happening? If you concede good quality chances time and again as a defender you will start making more errors. If you are a striker operating on poor chances your confidence will be effected and your performance decline.
So I’m now firmly sticking my flag in the Klopp has given control to others as part of an agreement during his contract renewal as he winds down idea.
The way to fix it is Klopp to take back control, demote or even fire those doing the coaching and recruiting tactical misfits like Nunez and Gakpo. Get back to the high intensity, chocking of the opposition and lightning quick counters. At the end of the season remove those that are tactically not suited to a Klopp team, Thiago and Matip for wxample. Find a role in such a team for the likes of Carvalho and Elliot or move them on despite how high their ceiling might be. Get back the Klopp identity on the team.
The question is if Klopp has it in him to do so? Stress and his and his family welfare are closely connected. If he hasn’t got it in him to build again in his own image then maybe it is time to find someone who will. Just not Pep Ljinders!

I have read but it was only someone’s opinion that Klopp is slowly handing over responsibilities to other staff members as he winds down to retirement. Training to Ljinders, recruitment to the scouting team etc. You know he has always said he will stop when his wife tells him the stress is too much maybe this was a compromise for extending his contract. This isn’t a Klopp team anymore, he needs to take back control.

3rd February 2023 at 12:21 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #203617Leeds thought they were in a good place when they signed loads of players on big long contracts too. Even the mighty Barcelona struggled and would of gone under if they weren’t so important to La Liga. Its a very dangerous game Chelsea are playing.

Klopp will have the support of most LFC fans, a few entitled ones that shout and scream at every disappointment may disagree!
Having said that something has to change and I am a firm believer that what happens on the training pitch reflects what happens on match day.
We can buy the best midfield in the world it won’t make any difference if they are set up poorly. Yes I am talking about our much talked about press, or lack of. We can remove the press as it seems we have this but then why persist with a high line? Now the opposition have all thr time in the world to pick a pass over our defence.
If we are moving away from the high intensity style then let’s do that but none of this half and half tactical mess. Klopp needs to get his tracksuit back on and take control.

31st January 2023 at 11:30 am in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #203507Chelsea are just playing a high risk/high reward game. It could work out great for them, it could all backfire and they have many players on very long expensive contracts that will surely affect future transfer windows. Do I think they are doing anything wrong? No. Would I be happy if Liverpool used this tactic? Also no, too much risk for me.
Actually think having so many new players espeically coming from different leagues can have a detrimentle effect on a team that is already out of form. They are coming mid-season, it will be interesting to see how Potter introduces them to the team. Might be ok if done gradually, might be a disaster if all thrown in at once and expecting them to perform as a unit.

Again Sean you are talking about individuals and completely missing my point. I am not asking Thiago to do anything more, I asking the team to do more either with him in or not. And no I’ve not pointed the finger at Nunez but at as his signing and integration in the system. Has it worked? Think it obvious that it hasn’t.
I’ve never said to not touch the midfield. I’ve said I don’t want the high intensity system that brought us success to change but it has. Playing Thiago and Nunez affect that no matter what they do on an individual level and as a team we are worse. They can be accommodated but this season everything Klopp has tried has failed on a consistent level. I’ve said many times before you can play Thiago no problem but you need one or even two athletic players around him. For Nunez you lose the press of the DM and link up play that Bobby provided so that changes the dynamics of a pressing team completely.
Has Gakpo been signed to play the Bobby role? If so where does that leave Nunez? On the left behind both Diaz and Jota?
How do you see us lining up assuming everyone is fit? I’ve no idea hence why I think we’ve bought poorly.

Sean again you are looking at Nunez in isolation. Yes he has scored a few but in a team that is failing. It wouldn’t matter if his goal tally was up there with Haaland if the team is still losing and in 9th place.
You keep mentioning Thiago as our best performer and yes he is but it’s in a flawed system. So what does it matter if hes the best? And if he is one of the reasons it’s flawed then despite playing better he is still a problem. Not necessarily meaning he should be dropped same with Nunez but something needs to change and for too long it hasn’t.
Similar to utd last year where some asked where they would be without Ronaldo and his goals. I argued better off. It doesn’t matter how good individual performances are if the team fails as a result.

Sorry Sean apparently it’s the 3rd highest spend on international transfers
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/64412215.amp
PPT I don’t blame the owners they are not the ones training the players or choosing the signings. They out up a huge amount for Nunez and later a sizable amount for Gakpo. They’ve in the past spent record amounts on players like Alisson and VvD. Klopp has been backed, not to City or Chelsea levels, but he has still spent lots.
No idea about the reasons behind Edwards and Ward leaving. Did they jump or were they pushed? I think Klopp has actually relinquished too much control and needs to get it back to his way and identity.

I know some of the players can play other positions but Diaz, Jota and Gakpo primarily play as a right footed AML. The last few games Nunez has played there too with Gakpo playing central (Jota can of course also play there) which i cannot get my head arohnd the thinking. Carvahlo I think needs to leave for his career maybe a loan or maybe permanent.
If we are looking to replace Bobby (talk of a short term contract on going) shouldn’t we replace him with someone who primarily plays in that position rather than as a additional string to their bow? Or is this the plan with Gakpo hence him starting there, but then why sign Nunez?
So many questions about the direction the team is going at the moment! We look like Utd under Ole with no identity, wrong signings and wrong team selections.

We are the 3rd highest spenders in 2022, not spending cannot be an excuse. Not spending wisely is a different argument. And you should never buy a player for 30-40m because a couple are injured for a few games. What happens to Gakpo when Jota and Diaz return? I have a feeling one will go in the summer.

21st January 2023 at 10:00 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 21 – All Good Games :-) #203185That game was exactly what it suggested it would be, two mid table teams playing out an error riddled bore fest. Think Chelsea edged it but not by much. We like nearly every match look tactically all over the place.
Two very poor teams a long way off the CL spots.

I think the quality will come for Bajcetic as he gets older but you can see already how good his positional play is.
Team looks more balanced tonight with no big gaps appearing.

15th January 2023 at 9:47 am in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 20 – Manchester and London Derby #202975Regarding Thiago, he is or was a great player, but runner he never was. He said something like Klopp taught him how to run as it was never his game. He’s 31 now, some players their legs go around 30. Last season you say wasn’t a problem when we nearly won everything but where a couple of kicks from winning nothing, I say the cracks were starting to appear and now they are fully exposed.
Our midfield no longer presses, our forward no longer drops into midfield to press the DM gubing the opposition an outlet or more area for our midfield to cover.
Is this just age in which case our recruitment has failed for many seasons or tactics. I suspect its a bit of both. Go more technical to save the legs for later in the season but screws us for the now. Problem is we are a team that is neither one or the other, a complete mess tactically. Players who are now older have to cover more area because other players don’t have the legs. Gaps everywhere, mistakes everywhere, it’s a vicious cycle.
Play Thiago, play Fabinho or even Elliot, but have 2 strong athletic midfielders with them. Not 2 of them it doesn’t work, and definitely not all 3. But yet we do.
Not just me saying it although I wasn’t influenced by what Carra said. Our problems stem from the training pitch and tactics board, combined with poor recruitment.

15th January 2023 at 4:41 am in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 20 – Manchester and London Derby #202968Nil we can all still talk about football and incidents freely, even teams we don’t like. I’m not feeling sorry for City they are the last team I ever would do but just saying how I saw it.
