Yes you did Ed, although I agreed he has been impressive since taking over and will be an option for the bigger teams.
Easy to see where the issue with Chelsea is
6 – Chelsea have scored six goals across their last 12 games in the Premier League; no side has scored fewer in the competition since the start of November. Chore. pic.twitter.com/fKrdXiwyeR

28th February 2023 at 6:48 am in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 25 & Carabao Cup Final 2023 #204873You’ll probably find a lot of those arrogant annoying Utd fans are now City fans!
I remember Liverpool fans giving it out when we won the CL and Utd won the Carling Cup in 2006. Think it was a picture of the Euopean Cup next to a mug with a can of Carling in it if memory serves me right.
Well done Utd. Still a Mickey mouse cup (which I would have loved to win this season!)

25th February 2023 at 3:31 pm in reply to: Weekend Football – Gameweek 25 & Carabao Cup Final 2023 #204748We critise it often enough but VAR got that spot on. Looked a perfectly good goal but the VAR reply clearly showed the GKs arm being held.
Leicester are such a poor team mind its only a matter of time before Arsenal do score.

We were actually very good for 25 minutes or so then lost all the intensity. That’s fine, we were two nil up that’s a good situation to be in to try and control the game. Trouble is we drop the intensity but carry on with the high line, and with Henderson playing almost as a right winger leaving the centre exposed etc. The defence gets over ran time and time again. This leads to a lack of concentration, to stress and mistakes. Gomez in particular seems to be one that struggles to cope when under increased stress.
I am not 100% sure why we do this. In our more successful years we would often blitz teams for 30 mins or so then control afterwards with a counter threat. Is it because our players are older and not replaced? Is it we are wary of the multitude of injuries we are getting? Or is it just our way of playing now?
Whatever the reason it isn’t working as we are not controlling but leaving ourselves wide open. A high line with no press means the opposition have time to pick out good passes. Henderson on the right means the other two are outnumbered and passed around.
There is a lot of truth that certain players have diminished in quality, Hendo, VvD, Gomez and Fabinho in particular. But our main issues are tactical and what’s happening on the training pitch.

The club was up for sale, no one would meet the asking price. Man utd for sale probably didn’t help.

Just seen it, red card every time. Slo mo, still or live it’s a horrid challenge. Shouldn’t even need to go to VAR it’s that clear.

Thankfully I dont get to listen to Tyler and Carra, heard they were not great. This quote made me laugh from RAWK after we scored the 2nd
“Have we scored? I thought Tylerβs dog had just died”
Thought Milner came on and made a difference, apart from one mistake I think that let Newcastle in and he got an ear full from Klopp. He then rolled back many years and looked strong.

Thought we were better at 11v11, lost the intensity without gaining control. We should have just passed them to death and we would still have had chances with the pace up front. Disagree Nil thought Fab wasnt great, same with the rest of the midfield. They were bypassed too often.
Did enjoy Nunez and Gakpo, two players whose purchases I have questioned. They seem to be fitting in now, showing interchangeability and contrast with Gakpo coming deep and Nunez stretching the opposition. Gives defenders a lot to think about and then there’s Salah too.

Newcastle need to chase the game, they are down to 10 men and liverpool have crazy pace up front. Can only see more goals from Liverpool unless a set piece or something.

I thought on first viewing it was handball but clearly on the replay it wasn’t. VAR did what it’s supposed to this time.

Sean to be fair not many would have predicted that. Sure Chelsea are looking poor in front of goals but at home against the bottom team is a shocker for any team let alone one that spent half a trillion recently.

“Chelsea will come back to beat Southampton. Absolutely no doubt of that”
Sean maybe you should stop having absolute no doubts π

Great entertainment and typical Martinez grabbing the attention.
Now looking forward to forest fans rendition of “champions of Europe, you’ve never sing that”

Arsenal need to hit Saka as much as possible as he’s against Silva and Grealish on that side. Could have a field day.

This will be interesting with that “back line” that Pep has picked. Going for something a bit different in a big match again?

Ed, if we beat Newcastle then that’s 2 wins in a row. That in itself is a run we’ve not seen much this season! I think to truly cement 4th a run of 5 or more wins would be needed, or something like a w7 d3 sort of thing. All season we get a good result only to drop points the next match. Admittedly those immediately above are not pulling up trees either, but they have more points on the board already.

We would need to go on one of those runs when we just blow everyone away like in previous seasons. The trouble is we haven’t looked like doing that at any point of this season. Last night was a nice win and could be a catalyst to send us on a run but I bet many thought that after beating City. Newcastle is a big match as I think the top 3 is now looking settled so only one spot up for grabs.
