Missing out on 4th place for Liverpool means revenue loss, prestige loss, could affect the summer targets. Bummer. But on the brightside we’ve not won the Europa for a while and the final is in Dublin. As Klopp would say, book your hotel tickets now!

Didn’t see the match it’s only on dazn which i dont have or dodgy streaming and not worth the hassle. Seemed like its was fully deserved. I never want a city win for reasons mentioned before but there is also something satisfying about seeing Madrid getting walloped too.
Bet La Liga will point their fingers at City or thr Premier league again citing cheating. They won’t be happy seeing one of their two money generators humbled.
City now massive favorites. Can only see a comfortable win for them.

Rover Adlab does this every time. He thinks the whole footballing world is against City when he should be enjoying where his team is right now. His team won the lottery yet he moans about everything going against them. If you cannot see my point in my post then fair enough.
But yeah I’d rather any team win other than City, maybe with the exception of PSG. Even utd and that’s saying something! Never understood this they represents the EPL thing so we should hope they win nonsense.

Disgrace”It’s because whilst Madrid are the darling child of Uefa, City are the unwanted ginger step child. Nobody like to see cheats prosper especially at the detriment of their favorites so the refs are likely under instruction to force a Madrid win.
Or it could just be the usual Adlab selfpitycity rubbish that he thinks everyone is out to get his team when he should be thanking the football gods his team so far have gotten away with their unfair rise from relegation fodder to favorites for the biggest trophy in club football. One one with the home leg to come puts them in a strong position with a relatively weak Italian team facing them in the final.
Best opportunity City have ever had to win the trophy they spent billions trying to get, unless those pesky UEFA bribed refs have something to do with it!

Liverpool have a chance but its an outside one. All the talk seems to be Utd missing out but Newcastle have some tricky games coming up. Brighton have a tough ask with their remaining games.

To be honest I think most people raised an eyebrow when they put so many players together mid season with a scatter gun approach to transfers. Who even identified them as targets? With the amount they spent they surely could have met a top strikers buy out or paid over the top for one and kept most of the squad as it was.
Not trying to upset the Chelsea lads or feel smug with a told you so. But Ed is right it’s a pretty terrible way to run a club.

To be honest Sean don’t think I can fault that 11. Maybe Alisson for someone else as although he has been the one shining light he has made a few bloopers and not as convincing as previous years. Can’t think who however!

A long but interesting read, although I think formations are only a part of a much larger system. You have the playing style, attack and defence, the defensive line, the transite stage and of course what players are available and their attributes.
Someone famous (cant actually remember who) in football once said that football is about space, defending space and attacking space. It’s a managers job to determine how to do this with the resources he has and the formation plays a major part.
Klopps 433 is obviously a formation I have seen a lot of. With it he took an argueably a midfield with less technical abily than his rivals and dominated. With a striker who drops deep, the x2 pressers with energy to burn and an anchor to mop up anything that comes through it created a diamond 4 in the middle of the park perfect for the press. The anchorman in this case was Fabinho who is not blessed with great athletic ability but because of the work in front of him he could ensure he was positioned correctly creating a very strong triangle with the centre backs.
None of that would matter if there wasnt some sort of attacking solution and this came from creative full backs and scoring wide players. The whole system worked perfectly (most of the time) with great synergy between the defence and attack.
Other managers use different styles. Pep has a different press where they press the passing lines rather than the player but once the ball is won they often revert back to shape rather than counter like Klopp. Or at least thats how they did it , I try not to watch them this season find it too upsetting knowing how far Liverpool have fallen!
A 442 or 4411, despite being told recently otherwise, have a press that is easily bypassed. It works better with a low block that give two solid rows. How this has changed since Fergie’s first dominant team!
Football is always evolving, not always for the better, and that certainly includes formations, styles and tactics.

Nil, please explain how the press works in a 442 or 424? Its not as simple as dropping players in that can fit into a formation. This makes me laugh when one in particular LFC fan keeps banging the 4231 drum without ever explaining how the press works or what he would do to create a successful defensive unit.

Not entirely sure they were the right forwards. Said it at the time and still unconvinced. Gakpo maybe as the false 9 but was he bought for that or is a make do? And where does Nunez fit when everyone is available? Expensive bench warmer.

It’s not character, it’s tactics and more specifically intensity. The change does not suit our players and it has shown. The few times we have shown it we look a different team.
All the signings in the world won’t make a huge difference if the set up is wrong in the first place.

Home form is not down to the crowd, it’s how the opposition approach the game. Nearly all teams ease off given us more time to play this slower pace football. Arsenal are not doing this and are the better team.

Only watched the first 20 minutes then my stream died and with a 03:20 (uk time) alarm call for work I thought sod this! Seems it was the right decision.
We can play quick good football with the team pressing and high intensity. We just only done it this season on the odd occasion and only at home. The Anfield crowd obviously helps but I still think this is a decision made on the training pitch maybe to conserve energy in old legs. Certain players now do not suit the high intensity game either which will also influence this.
Having said that they knew what was needed last night and you’d think they go for it from the off. If Nunez took that early chance who knows maybe they would have. But seeing a 4231 and a midfield of Fabinho and Milner I knew we’d be in for a evening of slow ponderous play and reading online comments and reports it seems it was.
