Comments from Pep sum it all up I think Nil and pretty much my thoughts.
He said: “When a team has 16 victories from 17 it’s unrealistic to think we are going to chase them.
“We have to try to win our games, secure Champions League for next season and then you never know, no?
“If they drop a couple of games, and we win and win… I don’t know. When one team loses one game in the last 53 or 54 I’m not optimistic that they are going to lose four or five in 10 or 11 games because they are incredibly strong.”
If City are to catch Liverpool they would welcome a favour from Leicester, who host the Reds on Boxing Day.

Thanks 999. well aware of the two matches in the FA Cup against Leeds back in the day (will never ever forget those :)) and also remembered the Real Madrid victory in Greece but what I did have to research and had forgotten with time was that we replayed Real Madrid as well.
The qualification for the Cup Winners Cup as the name would suggest was for the cup winners in the various countries involved. I note Chelsea beat Manchester City that year in the earlier rounds and assume they must have been the League Cup winners. Just wondering if 5th and 6th places also qualified and if the Cup Winners Cup was replaced by what is now the Europa League or what actually happened with time to the Cup Winners Cup which we subsequently won again in the late 90s against Stuttgart with a Zola special.
Pagan was mentioning a trophy that Liverpool never won and that had me thinking a European trophy. As it turns out, it was the Zenith Data Systems Cup which I also barely remember and appears to have only run between 1985 and 1992 under various other names.

Oh Yes Pagan of course. Never forget Zola’s winning goal in the final vs Stuttgart. Almost like it happened yesterday 🙂

So glad for you mate but still disappointed for you guys that the scheduling destroyed any chance of you winning the Carabao Cup. Maybe Klopp could have mixed in a few of the experienced players and hoped to compete and win both but that wasn’t to be. Enjoy the ride to May Nil and number 19 clocked up. Over the next few seasons your lads could definitely equal and then surpass United’s 20. That has to be a big chance with their club battling to keep pace with you right now. Can’t see them winning any titles in the foreseeable future.

Yes Chelsea qualified for the Cup Winners Cup as a result of the FA Cup final win and then played a string of knockout home and away matches to reach the final as did Real Madrid. Thought I’d google it and read up on it. It was that far back I couldn’t remember what happened. Even forgot that the final went to a replay with the second match only attended by a small percentage of those that had gone to Greece for the original final. Most had tickets already booked for the return to England and missed the second match.

Nil the trophy haul is substantial for Liverpool so I guess missing an old trophy from 50 years ago isn’t going to cause too many sleepless nights for the modern day Liverpool supporter 🙂

Chelsea won the Cup Winners Cup against Real Madrid in the 1971 season but isn’t it the equivalent of the modern day tournament the Europa League? Liverpool have won a version of that based on the trophy haul list above.

Oh fair enough. What are they missing?
I googled their trophy haul which reads as follows:
Liverpool has won six European Cups, more than any other English club, three UEFA Cups, four UEFA Super Cups (both also English records), one FIFA Club World Cup, eighteen League titles, seven FA Cups, a record eight League Cups and fifteen FA Community Shields.

The bookmakers may as well pay out now though.

Wise words nil and dare I say that either of the domestic trophies would be tougher to win than that last night. But, as they say you have still got to get to the big dance to be part of it and that was achieved back in July. Congratulations on another victory. They have forgotten how to draw let alone lose a football match. Unstoppable this season.

I thought both had signed new contracts but all reports say otherwise. Need to sort pronto. Disappointed that both appear to have baulked at signing up.

The scheduling of two games in consecutive days for the one club in different parts of the world is insane and a disgrace. Who the heck is in charge of that? You must be fuming Nil!! The Carabao Cup could have ended up as part of a major trophy haul.

Sancho looked pretty handy overnight against Leipzig. A welcome addition at Chelsea for mine.

Mourinho is a genius at motivating players that are down and massaging their egos. Probably used the us vs the whole world mentality as well. Those blokes clearly weren’t putting in for Poch and should be ashamed of themselves. That being only their second away win since January proves it. There has been an instant turn around in everything on the pitch. Mourinho just had to press the green button.

de Bruyne at Chelsea 2012–2014 Chelsea appearances 3 goals (0) Manager 2013-15 Mourinho
Also on loan in Germany in that time and scored 10 goals in 33 appearances. Sold to Wolfsburg for 18 million pounds
Salah at Chelsea 2014–2016 Chelsea appearances 13 goals (2) Managers 2016 Hiddink/Conte
Also on loan in Italy in that time as a registered Chelsea player and scored 20 goals in 50 appearances. Sold to Roma (it appears) for 15 million pounds.
Both have moved on to greatness and to say that I would be disappointed is an understatement.

Unpolished gems that needed a little more polishing, not just one but both. Maybe not the fault of the clnb itself, maybe the manager of the time. Jose had limited time for fringe players so maybe he is responsible. There must have been indications of potential greatness there 5 or 6 years back.

Saw two class players on the weekend that Chelsea just simply let go in Salah and De Bruyne. Neither were even close to where they are now in quality yet the Chelsea scouts identified something that was there. Lack of patience and opportunities back then. De Bruyne is amazing and a master class in striking of the football and simply a brilliant all round footballer. Salah’s recent record at Liverpool speaks for itself. If only.

That performance the worst yet by Chelsea following up from rubbish against West Ham and Everton. The rot has set in and for the life of me I don’t know what the cause is. 999 any ideas.
