And as for Mourinho winning with Porto, let’s not forget that while Porto May be one of the two biggest clubs in Portugal, they never have been able to buy worldclass players. They had to create them from their own ranks, scout South American talents or raid the smalle clubs in Portugal.
Compare that to Milan of 2004 who had Shevchenko, Cafu, Pirlo, Gattuso, Kaka, Rui Costa, Nesta, Stam, etc. Worldclass talent from all over the world. You could You also had the Galacticos of Real Madrid, United with SAF and so on. Those clubs didn’t have the same “natural” restrictions and barriere as Porto.
No matter how you cut it winning the CL with Porto was a highly unlikely, massive bollocks performance._____________________________

For some reason Guardiola has never been questioned the same way as José.
That always mad me wonder. José won the CL with Porto. And with Inter in the days of peak Barcelona. He took the challenge of post SAF United and won titles. Not the PL, but still titles. He actually had a similar win percentage at United as the one he had during his second spell at Chelsea that resulted in yet another PL win.
Guardiola on the other hand never did anything like that. He actually haven’t won the CL for nearly a decade. And he had the talent and money of Bayern and the talent of Man City and the money of the UAE to his disposal.
I’m sure Spurs will win something with Mourinho.

If I supported Liverpool I’d be fuming that Henderson’s goal wasn’t allowed. No way that was an offside.
I honestly think VAR is a joke. It sucks everything out of the game. I’d rather have the refs making a few mistakes during the course of a season than this shitshow.
All those stops during games. It’s becoming an American sport. Awful. And when it can’t even get a clear cut decision like the Henderson goal right, then it’s hard to see the argument why it should be used at all._____________________________

On the keeper topic, De Gea has a crap defence in front of him. Even Schmeichel would have struggled with that bunch of village idiots.
It might be a mental thing. De Gea used to save us quite a bit. Maybe he’s become disillusioned by the fact that he was basically the only one pulling his weight for so long and the lack of a real project at the club. That players need to move on and then reinvent themselves have been seen before. We need to sell him for his own sake as well as for the greater good of the team. He has done well for many years for us, but it’s time for him to move on. Also because having two number ones is just a recipe for disaster._____________________________

Mak, yeah, we might have missed a trick with Ancelotti. A proven winner, like Mourinho, but without all the hassle.
I really can’t see who we could get now. Those who might be good enough are at clubs they most likely wouldn’t leave even if their club would let them. Woodward wants a docile yes man, which OGS clearly is. The goal isn’t to mount a serious challenge to anything but the top 4. We have become Arsenal Vol 2.0, just without a style of play.
It’s a mess. Only Rashford, Greenwood, Martial, Henderson and Fernandes should be considered not for sale. The rest should be up for sale if a decent offer comes along. United really looks like a club that should start from scratch.
The next manager should be appointed on that basis. Who can really build a team? Create a team spirit, implement a style of play, create a core of players with the right kind of character and professionalism. Nagelsmann is very young, but he did well at Hoffenheim before going to Leipzig and adding to his repetoire. The other name that springs to mind is Simeone. They are different types of managers, but they can clearly both build teams.
Getting in that kind of manager would be a more important appointment than a transfer of Sancho or Dembele. Why add a layer of paint to your car when you don’t have an engine?_____________________________

What bothers me about United is the lack of planning when it comes to building a foundation for a real team. As it is now we have both De Gea and Henderson as keepers. A team should have one undisputed number one. Henderson coming back should mean De Gea sold.
The Sancho hunt was/is pointless. Of course he’s good, but we already have Martial, Rashford and Greenwood. Who would Sancho replace and why? All three of them have shown enough promise to be trusted. To hunt Dembele is equally pointless IMO.We need to look at defence, as Maguire needs someone with a bit of pace next to him. Lindelof isn’t that guy, and Bailly is injured too often.
We also need a proper leader with a bit of steel in midfield. Pogba is never going to be that guy. I wish we’d just cut our losses and sell him back to Juventus or whereever he wants to go. Perhaps Partey from Atletico would be a good shout, if he had any interest of leaving a well run club with a very good manager to come to United. Thinking about it, perhaps we should go for Simeone as well._____________________________

Nagelsmann may be only 33, but he has Leipzig play some good stuff and they’re a very good side. Of course United is something completely different being a much bigger club with much more pressure while being run so badly it’s almost comical.
It’s hard to see who can really turn it around.
Bruno Fernandes surely must be wondering if he made the right choice._____________________________

Maguire is too slow. That’s probably why OGS paired him with Bailly, even if the guy can’t play two games in a row without getting injured again. Maguire isn’t bad, but he needs a quick partner in that central defence, and of course he isn’t worth what United paid for him.
OGS getting the sack? Could and perhaps should happen. But not before a proper replacement is found.
Pogba should only get half of his pay as he doesn’t want to defend. And clearly he can only play in a succesfull side with proper leaders. He can’t get going when the going is tough._____________________________

There’s just a pretty long way between a defence of Bailly-Maguire-Lindelof-WB-Shaw to what we once had. We’ve spend so much time hunting Sancho when we should have been focusing on defence. When you have a mediocre defence and a lack of real leaders it’ll never be real good and occasionally you’ll get hammered.
Happy days._____________________________

I bet both Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen regret moving clubs…
We could easily face a season in which a lower mid table finish would be a good result.
And we won’t do much in the CL either. But if OGS do get the sack, then who could we get in besides Poch? Allegri? Nagelsmann from Leipzig would be good, but why would he want to come to United?

It’s in the sports news over here as well that Birmingham retired Hey Jude’s number.
I think it’s redicoulous. Surely Birmingham only did it to get the attention. The kid is about 11 years old and played about 40 games. I’m sure he’s embarrassed. That would be the natural reaction in this situation. At least if he’s still got just one of two feet on the ground._____________________________

Considering Milner’s age it would perhaps be sensible to let him go even if it seems a hard thing to do given his great service to Liverpool and his overall professionalism. But if Klopp is to build a new dynasty at Liverpool he has to ship out some players sooner rather than later.
Johan Cruyff (I think it was) once spoke of the ideal squad consisting of one third youngsters, one third players in their prime and one third older players in order to keep and maintain a balanced squad and club culture. With that in mind it might be a good idea to let someone like Milner go._____________________________

Of course I’m hoping for United, but it’s way too soon.
Liverpool could do it again, but City have proved that FFP is a joke. They have a good manager who is happy to be employed by a state regime with limitless funds, so they’ll spend where they need to and hence they have a very good chance of winning back the title.
It’ll be another loss for football, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see City crowned champions once again._____________________________

All schools and places of education, local clubs, most of the public domain shut down for the next two weeks here in Denmark. Our country is basically in lock down.
As for the footballing part of it, it’s almost unbearable if this great Liverpool side is robbed of winning the title.
