I know and agree with those who say Mourinho can be a tool. He didn’t exactly cover himself in glory back with that Chelsea doctor or when he poked Villanova in the eye. He may have a more pragmatic and defensive approach to football than Guardiola. But was his first Chelsea team boring to watch? Was his Real Madrid team boring to watch compared to the Real team of today? Not to me.
I’d like to see Guardiola do with teams like Porto and Inter what Mourinho did. That proved Mourinho isn’t just about throwing money about. To me Guardiola is overrated. He inherited a Barcelona team where Van Gaal and Rijkaard had developed and brought through the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Valdes, Eto’o, Messi and many others. I just don’t see how winning with that team makes him a genious. And the year Real Madrid (with Mourinho) beat them to the title he talked of being exhausted and left the club for Bayern Munich, another team where he inherited a great side with very little domestic competition. But did he develop them? Not in my opinion. Bayern were much more effective and fun to watch under Heynckes in my opinion.
And how about that ribbon of his? So he supports Catalonian independence and democratic elections and works for a club that is owned by a guy that is very close to the UAE royal family. A country where stoning and flogging are still legal methods of punishment.
Yep, makes perfect sense to bash Mourinho and speak of how Guardiola is a level above him.

Thinking about it for a second.. Quite a few former players became good or even great managers. Dalgliesh was mentioned. Others are Ancelotti, Conte, Heynckes, Zidane, Blanc, Olsen (title with Ajax and 16 years as Denmark manager, just if some wondered who the hell I was taking about), Guardiola, Del Bosque, Vogts, Cruyff, Rijkaard, Beckenbauer, .. I could mention more.
Perhaps good players turning crap managers are a bit of a myth? Or is it only because not many English players have been able to take the step?

If Stevie G wants to try his hand on management, this might be the perfect job. As Alfie said he speaks the language (so he shouldn’t have the same problems as Gary Neville at Valencia), he’s got bigger funds than anyone up there except for Celtic, and if he’s got a future as a manager or not will be answered after basically one season. If he can slip by Celtic and win the whole thing (see what I did there?) maybe he can break the curse of good players turning crap managers. If he ends third or lower, he should just go straight to full time punditry or learn glassblowing.

24th April 2018 at 9:39 pm in reply to: Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg – Liverpool V Roma – Tues 7:45 #20920Congrats on the win to Liverpool and their fans on this page. Entertaining game for sure! Once again Liverpool played some amazing stuff, but they took the foot off the speeder, which came at a price.
At least from a neutral POW it keeps the tie a bit alive.

Liverpool definitly stopped playing too early.

442, Yep! the lower the expectations, the higher chance of not being dissappointed. I’m the same with Denmark. I’ll consider it a good overall result if we get out of the group. As for England I wish them well. By now they can’t really disspoint because of past failures. And many of the players haven’t been to tournaments before, so perhaps they won’t feel the pressure as much?
Mav, Sisto is pretty good. Somewhat hot and cold. He is unpredictable, but he has ability to cause damage at defences. s for Bendtner??? Mate, don’t get me started on that twat!! π

BB, couldn’t you say that about club football as well? City’s owner is a guy close to the royal family of the UAE, a country where flogging and stoning are legal methods of punishment. Russian owners with shady pasts have been and still are club owners in Spain, France and England. The Glazers donated money to Trump’s presidential campaign. Football has become bonkers.

If Silly-Willy-Nillies are to pop out, Silly-Willy-Nilly must be thrown into a swimmingpool. Wetness is in any case required. To get rid of them, bright light is required.

So we should just expose him to bright light and hope for the best?

I don’t follow England as such, but regarding the keepers, surely Hart shouldn’t go unless he’s first choice? Having played close to 80 England games and not being older than he is, it’s hard to believe he would accept a backup role.
Looking from the outside I’d say your goalkeepers and defence, especially centrally, look average, but midfield and attack look pretty solid. What would be the criteria of succes for England this summer?
As a Denmark fan I’d be happy to get out of the group. We are extremely dependent on Eriksen, and if he’s having a bad day at the office, we’re pretty much crap.

I think it’s hard to argue against the PFA team of the year. I’d agree Aguero even though he’s great could be replaced with Firmino.
Other than that I think De Gea, Salah and De Bruyne have been the standout players all things considered this season. De Gea is probably the only United player that has performed to his true level all season.
I’m glad to see Eriksen included. whenever I have seen him for Spurs, I think he’s been one of their absolutely best players. He’s been doing the business for Denmark as well. He has really matured as a player over the course of the last few seasons. Hopefully he’ll continue his fine for for us when it’s world cup time.

“I donβt score points and never will in playing fantasy league in not picking Man United players because deep down I hate them and I donβt want them to do well, why should I?”Usually you react pretty strongly to any real or imagined written attack or negativity towards Liverpool. Remember that respect between posters from different clubs aren’t one way traffic. And reading this thread I see noone talking down to you.

Topics for debate:
1) When will the world realize that Pep is an overrated, bald fraud?
2) When will footballers again start to grow mullets? Waddle, VΓΆller, young Fabregas….
3) At which stadium do you get the best beer and sausage?

Liverpool extremely lucky to get that goal. They could and perhaps should have been down 3-0 at halftime, but that’s how it goes.
I can’t stand Guardiola, so I’m happy to see him out of the CL, but if City feel hard done by I do get it._____________________________
