I really don’t like playing France today. If we lose, it’ll be just typical if the Aussies also beat Peru and take second place. I’d be surprised if we go through, to be honest. Got a feeling France will beat us 2-0 without getting out of second gear. We struggle to create chances and to take control of games. And we’ve given away penalties in both of our first two games.
As for the overall winner I still got Germany. They might have lost to Mexico, but they were good against Sweden. Spain my second favourite to win it.

Jim, looking at the game it was a victory for football that Germnay won. The Swedes were only about defending. I think it was 72-28 % for Germany in possession. Even one man up Sweden only defended. They had that Kroos goal coming. And I mean it’s not like Sweden is Iceland. They have a good history when it comes to football. Two WC medals. They should have ambitions beyond 9 men behind the ball. We played them in a test game recently. Fuck me what a borefest! And that’s why I want them out.
For me Germany and Croatia have put in the two best performances so far. Spain and Portugal in that one game was great too.

Mav, I read loads of books about WWII. You can’t put htose horrors into words. And us that belongs to the generations born after the war couldn’t possibly begin to really understand it. We should never forget history. We should always seek to learn from those past mistakes, and that’s why I refuse to hold the past against the present generation. Regardless of nationality.
That being said my friend, I bet the German women only starting smiling when you arrived 😉

This was about a game of football. Nothing more. My comments about Sweden were tongue in cheek. To bring in ww2 is way over the top. Hopefully that was tongue in cheek too and I’m just too dumb to get it.

Mav, so we blame kids for the sins of their fathers? That’s sad. And by that logic we should dislike scandinavians because of the vikings, mongols because of Djengis Khan, the English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Dutch for their colonial history, the Canadians because of Bryan Adam’s music and so on.
Exciting game. Clearly the better team won. I do feel a bit sorry for the Sweden though. The key words being “a bit” 😉

Jim, as a Dane I always had to drive through Germany to get further south during the summer. Also spend holidays there. I also studied years ago with some Germans as we have a German minority in the southern part of our country. I only know the Germans as very nice and friendly people and Germany as a fantastic country. So I want them to do well.
I also visited England many times. Only got good things to say about you as well, mate._____________________________

Shouldn’t most top club sides be able to beat a top national side? Club teams train together on a daily basis all season. National teams don’t. That should mean that the club side is better drilled and have a much better understanding of each other. That counts for a lot.
That being said I think both Germany and Spain would hammer City on their day. Muller would probably frustrate the hell out of Otamendi causing him to kick something at someones head again. And then it would be 10 vs 11 and then it could get really ugly 😀_____________________________

Moos, I think so too. Personally I still think Germany could do it. It would be very ungermanylike for ze Germans not to turn it around against Sweden (who by the way must be the most boring side ever. The sooner they’re headed home the better)

Sampaoli isn’t that bad. He did win Copa America in 2015 with Chile and got Sevilla into the CL in his only season with them. He can’t be judged on two games at the WC. Didn’t Iceland progress to the knockout stage of the the euro 2016? They may be a small nation, but they’re good. Haven’t Croatia got top class players almost in every position? Yes they do. Croatia are good enough to hammer anyone on their day.
Perhaps Argentina are just painfully overrated. They just haven’t got the players to compete. They are more name than substance. Looking at their squad only Messi and Aguero are truly worldclass. More than half of their squad is 30 or older and they haven’t got anything like a decent keeper available.
People should acknowledge Croatia rather than hammer Sampaoli. He may not be the world’s greatest coach, but the reality is that what’s available to him is just in general very average.

Banjo, I predicted a close game. I was pretty much right I think. And even if that penalty of yours was a wrong call a draw was a fair result. I’m not sure either of our teams will win the whole thing. well… not COMPLETELY sure anyway.

Even if the penalty was completely and utter bollocks the Australians are much better than I thought. Could go either way. We do need the win. Not very pleasant to know that we might need a result against the French.
