Sean, to be honest I haven’t seen much of Cillessen (who has since he signed for Barcelona?), it was just a thought. I just can’t imagine Klopp and Liverpool being happy to stick with Karius. It must be pretty nerve wracking for the ten others to have that guy standing back there in goal.

It’s all over the Danish media that Barcelona are interested in signing FC Copenhagen’s Sweden keeper Robin Olsen as their backup. That would probably make Jasper Cillessen available. Surely he is much too good to be a reserve at Barcelona, but would he be good enough to be first choice at Liverpool, should they feel the need to replace Karius? After all, he has about 40 caps for the Netherlands. And at 29-30 Cillessen surely wouldn’t be happy to stay second choice after Ter Stegen?

It’s been an entertaining and a bit odd tournament so far with some of the big boys failing – Germany, Spain, Argentina and to an extent Brazil. But Belgium and France are worthy semifinalists. So are England, of course, but to me it seems Belgium and France are a bit stronger. Anything can happen though. As for Croatia vs. Russia, my pick would be the Croatians. They play the better football too, IMO. I’m sure the England fans would prefer to play Russia though.

Still happy to see Sweden knocked out. Had they progressed to the semis it would have been a loss for football. Of course any team should do what works best for them, but the Swedish team is just so defensive and unimaginative that it almost hurts to watch them. Even if you don’t have a truckload of flair players, you should still try to create something. In a world cup it’s better to burn out than to fade away. They may have reached the quarter finals which is a good achievement, but they will soon be forgotten because of their crap style of football. At the end of the day you can only defend that kind of defensive approach until the first crucial defeat. If you play that boring football and still lose, then it has all been in vain. The Swedes are not the only ones to disappoint though. Denmark were bad as well in general. I think we had 20 minutes of domination against the Aussies and then we played a good second half and extra time against Croatia only to be undone because of poor penalties.

Ed, Sweden are not crap. They are just mindnumbingly boring. And I guess you need to be Swedish to like this side. Just as noone besides us Danes miss us. We’ve boring as well.
Holland and Italy are pale reflections of what they once were. Sweden were bad against South Korea, the Germans outplayed them. Granted they won deservedly against Mexico, but against Switzerland they were back to their old, boring selves.

Sweden will not change their approach. They’ll continue to stand back and wait for England to make a mistake. That’s their gameplan. They never create anything or take the initiative. If England can avoid stupid mistakes the game is basically won. No way Sweden will pile on the pressure. If Sweden gets a goal it’ll be because of an indidual error by an English player.

Pax, yep. Aguero is much quicker and mobile than Higuain.
But all in all they’re extremely average. IMO only Aguero and especially Messi are worldclass. And they have such an old (and tired?) squad.

Just went to fetch a beer and Nigeria scored. Typical. Argentina out as it is then. I have a 10 kroner bet with a pupil of mine. He has Brazil or Argentina as world champion, I have Germany or France. So it suites me fine. By now I’d swap France for Spain though.

Yep! Happy to be through to the knockout stages. But we’ve been all about defending so far. We had 25 minutes of dominatation against the Aussies. That’s it. We’ve shown nothing going forward so far basically. If the neutrals are bored watching us and want us out on that account I can definitly understand it. I really hope we give it a go against Croatia, who probably win their group. Better to burn out than fade away and all that.
