They did let Wobbie Keane go after just half a season. He was a pretty expensive signing at the time. Selling him back then proved a smart move. Why wouldn’t they do the same thing again if they see the signs things just aren’t going to work out? In that case better now than later before his value drops.

It’s weird with Liverpool how they’ve performed so far in the CL. Perhaps it’s down to them now being favourites after their great campaign last season? It’s usually harder when you’re expected to really perform. That wasn’t quite the case last season. Perhaps they lack that last bit of mental toughness?
I still think they’ll beat Napoli at home in the last game and go through. Fingers crossed for that one.As for who I hope wins the CL, then obviously United. But we’re crap most of the time, our style of play is dire, and when you need to rely on Fellaini as your savior, your chance of succes equals that of a pig in Teheran. I just hope the likes of City and PSG fall short again.
Would actually be nice to see someone like Atletico, Tottenham or Dortmund win it._____________________________

I read the De Gea to Paris rumours too. Can’t blame him if he goes, but for United it’ll be like the final nail in the coffin. It’s not just losing a worldclass keeper, it’s also losing someone who actually knows how to win the league. He’s a SAF player. And he’s in his prime. You can’t replace him.
If I had to mention one position to upgrade on I wouldn’t know what to say. I think we’re dire all over the pitch.
I’d like to see Young stay as a back up/ squad player, but Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Fellaini, Rojo, LindelΓΆf, Mata, Sanchez and perhaps Lukaku should all be looked to sell on.
I guess I’d like a striker in the mould of Van Nistelrooy to play up front with Martial and Rashford. Someone with a killer instinct and a worldclass first touch. Lukaku hasn’t got that.
But who fits that description? Perhaps Kane. But would he come to United? No way.

Just saw that Jon Moss the Unfit is the ref in the United vs Everton game. It’ll be interesting to see how he copes this time.
1-1 or an unconvincing 1-0 for United.

But they unfortunately do to an extent. I know the City supporters here won’t like to read my posts on this thread, which I at some level can understand. I’ll stop it here then as you’re right on that last part of your post.

61 is no age at all. At 39 I’m too young (imagine saying that at my age π ) to have seen him in his prime. I wish him all the best.

999, I actually son’t think my comment is over the top. I answered a question and what I wrote is correct. Not everything is equally good and even if all governments and political systems are flawed, some are better than others. And succes can definitly come at too high a cost.
I’m just not one of those who are blown away by City or think “it’s their turn” to be succesful. Not when their succes is the result of what it is.

Sad news. He isn’t very old, is he?
I hope he recovers.

Adlab, no it’s because your owner is from the Emirates and is close to their royal family – a country where flogging and amputation are parts of the legal system. Any club that is succesful only because of that lot is a club that I like to see lose. If United were owned by someone with that kind of medieval view on humanity I’d stop following them.
But you’re right. United are shit to watch these days.

Can’t argue with that, Mav. Everton could well win.

Come on United. Although I’m not sure on anything with that team these days.
And come on Spurs. For the sake of the League (and football in general)_____________________________

A ref on each side of the field is a good idea, actually. Why couldn’t that work?

Mav, if LindelΓΆf was an actual footballer, I could ignorer his nationality π

CM, that settles it, mate. Lukaku’s going to have to deal with splinters in his backside then π

The number of games is also a factor. When MalmΓΆ reached the 1979 final they played Monaco, Dynamo Kiev, Wisla Krakow and Austria Wien before the final (I just googled it). Compare that to 2018. A world of difference.
That Real Madrid have won it three seasons running is amazing. But I think they’ve gone all in on the CL and neglected the domestic league and had a bit of luck as well.

Probably true, cm. Lukaku could still develop though. My only worry about playing Sanchez up front instead of Lukaku is that we’d be benching a 25- year old to play a 29- year old who has been flop so far. But of course you need to rethink things when things arre going the way they are – except for the last two games.

All cup competitions are diffucult to win time and time again. Luck plays such a big part. It’s one bad result and then you’re out.

CM, might be worth a try. Sanchez would offer more movement than Lukaku. It should be his last chance though. He has been a gigantic disappointment so far. On the other hand Rashford and Martial should be movement enough. We used to have Van Nistelrooy. He didn’t get much out of the box. Lukaku is similar in that way, even if he isn’t at VN’s level (yet?).
I think the danger of playing Sanchez up front is that he’s pushing 30 and Lukaku is 25._____________________________

I would be absolutely gutted if United brought in Benitez. Sure he’s a decent manager, as his record would suggest, but he’s a former Liverpool manager, and he can’t be considered an upgrade compared to Mourinho. As the ed said, the last two games show that he hasn’t lost the drerssing room, so for now I’d let him be.
I can’t see who’s out there that could perform better anyway. Conte, is the only one that could be worth a punt, IMO. But even him I don’t see as an upgrade. Allegri would be great, but why would he leave Juventus? The big problem is that we just don’t have that great a squad. MArtial, Rashford and Lukaku could be a very good front three, but we need to get rid of Sanchez. He’s too big a name to be left on the bench, and I just don’t see him evr coming good at United. Midfield has the potential to be good as well. Matic for a year or so, then a replacement is needed together with Fred behind Pogba. Could be worse.
It’s our defence that needs looking after IMO. Young and Valencia are not good enough to be fullbacks at a club with United’s ambitions. Bailly needs to step up. LindelΓΆf is a waste off space. I just dont think he’s good enough. And then there is Smalling. And Jones… We need an extremely defensive midfield to help that lot out. And that means United will have a hard time creating anything going forward.
Can we clone Vidic and Ferdinand?_____________________________
