I just can’t see OGS being a succes. Yes, he’s a club legend and knows “the United Way” and all that, but he didn’t do anything at Cardiff and to have managed in Norway says very little.
I have zero confidence in the squad respecting him just because he was a supersub much of his career at United and have managed Molde.
I’d love Simeone for reasons I have mentioned before. He might not represent freeflowing attacking football, but he stands for creating a team, a unit, a spirit in the squad. And that’s what’s needed before you can allow yourself the luxury of dreaming on beautiful football on a regular basis.
Who fits the bill of someone able to create a team, a unit and still play beautiful football?
I’m not going to say Guardiola for obvious resons. That would be taking the piss. Heynckes would fit the bill. But he’s retired and 134 years old. So who’s out there? I can’t see anyone, to be honest. So for me it would make sense to go for Simeone. He might not represent the beautiful game as such, but you need a solid foundation first and foremost. And if you can create that at the former madhouse Atletico, then you stand a better chance at United than most.

Keane never was good manager, IMO. Always him against the world. Simeone obviously is able to actually create teamspirit, and if he alienated players, then he wouldn’t have been for Atletico for as long as he has. And he’s a proven winner. Something Poch isn’t.

Rick Astley is obviously Nil. Consider the poetic language. A true artist.

Spot on, Mav! They’re never going to play any kind of attractive football before they start to act and see themselves as a team. They need to put the team before themselves. You need someone like Simeone for that to happen.

Simeone has been at Atletico for years which is historically unheard of as that club used to be a madhouse. He’s won titles there. Domestic and European titles. He has created a strong team mentality. Obviously he must be very good at man management. United need someone Who can do what Simeone can do. So get Simeone.

I don’t want OGS as the interim manager. He didn’t do well at Cardiff, and the Norwegian League is bollocks.
IMO the only reason to point to OGS, even if he’s a legend and a likeable guy, is if you want the comedy that currently is United to continue.
Out of the names mentioned, I’d have Blanc. He knows the club, and he did well at Bordeaux and PSG. He even managed France. He’ll not come in with too much respect for the overpaid primadonna either.
If he does well let him continue. Otherwise I’d love Simeone._____________________________

Mav, no mate! Bendtner? You have to draw the line somewhere! 😀
I’d rather have poster of Mourinho! 😀

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!
About time! It was becoming unbearable! This season has been utterly embarrassing from day one. Players have gone backwards, performances of course as well, strange, borderline weird statements from Jose. Glad he’s gone now.
Who’ll take over? Nicky Butt?

Perhaps this is a bit too black or white. Mourinho won two titles in 2016. He might not be the right man for United, but 2016 is only two years ago. He won the League in 2015.
When did Guardiola last win the CL? Or anything in Europe for that matter? And wouldn’t most win the League with City nowadays?
To call Mourinho yesterdays man is premature, IMO. But too much water under the bridge at United for him to succeed now, I think._____________________________

Fully deserved that Modric won.
He was great at the WC. Truly instrumental for a very good Croatia. In comparison Ronaldo turned it on against Spain but didn’t do much more than that. And Messi did next to nothing in a (on paper) very good Argentina side.
Modric also delivered in the CL as well. Also nice to see a player that usually operates further down the field winning a big individual award. I think that The Balon D’Or usually looks a bit like a popularity contest and not much more which is a shame.
Would Messi have been able to shine so bright at Barcelona without Busquest, Pique, Puyol etc. to do the defensive work so well? Would Ronaldo without Modic, Ramos etc.? Of course not. So great to see Modric win. He deserved it, but it’s also a good thing for football as such to see someone other than Ronaldo and Messi win it._____________________________
