Having watched the incident on the BBC sport site, when the second penalty was taken and scored, there was encroachment by the French team, so by the laws of the game the penalty should have been retaken, would seem the VAR is being selectively used in France….Pagan

Interesting use of VAR in the Women’s World Cup last night, correctly I may add, France were awarded a penalty that was missed by the ref. They then missed the spot kick which was then subject to another VAR review and the penalty was retaken as the keeper moved off her line prior to the ball being kicked.

Although the correct decision was given on both occasions, you can see numerous retakes happening in the coming season for either the keeper moving or encroachment by either side.

The magic of the cup started to diminish with the advent of televised league football, barring the odd international and the World Cup it was the only live game on the box. The whole day was dedicated to it. For me footy on the box has gone past saturation point. It’s a shame really as cup final day used to be something special….Pagan
