Mikus, that’s the down side of high transfer fees and clubs paying ridiculous salaries, the money has to come from somewhere…..Pagan

Having seen a lot of female refs in the grass roots leagues, they’re pretty much on par with the male ones, some poor, some good and some exceptional ones. What you do see is the the difference in the players if a decision goes against them, a bit less aggression and more questioning, they tend to show a bit more respect, for me it will be interesting to see if that trait carries on into the professional game. It will also be interesting to see how they deal with the diving and feigning injury, which is rare in the women’s game, would be funny to see the ref tell a player to man up…..Pagan

6th August 2019 at 9:40 pm in reply to: FA Community Shield 2019 – Liverpool V Man City 3pm – BT Sport 1 #44616If you go back to the 80s we had the home taping is killing music campaign. The big bands have got round the illegal downloading problem now. In the 80s bands charged quite a lot for albums but toured at a loss at times to promote the said albums. They made their money on album sales, now they make their big money by touring. Not sure how the TV companies are going to make their money but the clubs have followed the bands by fleecing the fans who want to watch the games in the flesh….Pagan

6th August 2019 at 9:31 pm in reply to: FA Community Shield 2019 – Liverpool V Man City 3pm – BT Sport 1 #44612The providers can’t throttle the speed for the end user, they guarantee a speed and have to deliver that. How could you watch Sky go if they did that. All they can do is go for the ones that are providing the stream…..Pagan

If so then the major companies Sky/Virgin/BT are still getting revenue off you. It’s not in their interest to ban you using their service as it just pushes you to one of the competitors…Pagan

6th August 2019 at 8:14 pm in reply to: That's the way to win a World Cup! Brilliant by England. #44596Jim, whilst I agree the punishments may seem lenient, was what they did really any different to taking a dive in the penalty area?
What was different though was the shame of the players, team and country, somewhat different to the justification dished out by football clubs…..Pagan_____________________________

Interesting comment on Maguire having no CL experience, however the success that PL teams had in the European competitions last season could possibly offset that.
Having said that it’s the money that’s the main problem for me, bang average players with the ability to tie their own laces £30m+…..Pagan

442, think you’ll find that was libellous not slanderous, however it would need to be untrue in either case.
But in both players cases, who in their right mind would change jobs for more work and less money, to players now football is just a job…..Pagan

28th July 2019 at 7:01 pm in reply to: How many goals will Billy Sharp get for Sheffield United? #44073Mr. Balance, there’s plenty of options round Leicester to move out of the city yet still be close enough not to make the commute in prohibitive.
I live sort of midway between the three larger cities in the East Midlands, I think it’s a great place to live. Obviously I’d love to live in the Peak District, Lakes, West Coast of Scotland or North Wales, but I also need a job.
Sometimes you have to take the plunge and make a move, for you that probably means stretching yourself a bit financially, and it is daunting when you do it, but we’ve all had to do that, in order to make life that little bit better in the long run.
Chin up mate, there’s far worse places to live than Leicester….Pagan

Assistant refs won’t be phased out, unless all decisions are going to be made by VAR. Assistant will still be there for things on the refs blind side, and the ball going out of play.
For me the ref on the field has to review the video on the monitor otherwise he has no responsibility and will just shrug his shoulders and say it’s not my decision, you will also get fouls outside the box judged differently to those inside the box as they will be two different peoples opinions, so that’s consistency out of the window.
Yes the players will be pressuring the ref to go to VAR and ultimately they’ll have to do it as the technology is there, so welcome to the 2 hour match….Pagan_____________________________

Minus, it would be nice to think that offside using VAR would be a matter of fact, unfortunately in order to make it fact then the camera would need to be perpendicular to the last but one player, add to this that you’re judging a foot on the ground to knees, chests, heads, then a coloured line draw as a best guess across the pitch isn’t really accurate enough to say a player is on or off to an inch…..Pagan

For me, if you have to keep rewatching the incident instead of looking at it once and saying I got that wrong then VAR isn’t doing what it should. Will be interesting to see how many fans are left in the stadiums on night matches when we start getting 20+ mins of time added on in total and fans have trains to catch…..Pagan

Ed, not sure you could class Derby as well financed, their three best players this season were loan players, and the fact they’ve now had to sell their ground to the owner for £80m and have still only made a profit of £14m. I think they currently spend £135 for every £100 of turnover. This is not bigging up Frank as I think you are probably right about his credentials it’s just about stating where Derby are right now….Pagan
