Mav, yes I saw them on “The Wall” tour at Earls Court in 80 and 81.

And as above met him a few times when he was racing in the same club meets as my brother, although he’s a big Ferrari man, he was actually racing Alfa’s. Other than the fact he was racing a very expensive car you wouldn’t have known he was mega rich, just a real petrol head…Pagan

999, I’d like to see a tariff on youth players, if a prem club takes a youth player from a lower league club they pay a pittance, maybe if the club they are at when they turn 23 pays a percentage of their worth back to the club that developed them that may put a bit more money back into the lower leagues….Pagan

There’s an awful lot of money that comes into the English game, where does it all go?

With transfers between English clubs it stays in our game, but with transfers from abroad it’s lost, we do obviously get some back, but I would think there’s quite a difference between the money going out and coming in.

The rest, well very few teams make a substantial profit so the rest of it goes out of the game. Running costs for the clubs takes a small proportion, agents fees take some as well, but the vast majority goes on the ridiculous wages that players get paid, so when the ex players/pundits say the whole issue with Bolton and Bury needs looking into by the FA, they’d probably be better looking into a mirror for the true cause….Pagan

999, It was great day, my eldest did the scoring, whilst the youngest was on glass collecting and rubbish duty, the youngest (15), because of the work they were doing got asked to play for one of the teams in the final. Well put it this way, they didn’t know that they played for the local county, and 3 wickets off the one over they can bowl their team won, some unhappy (though not in a nasty way) blokes, let’s face it no one likes getting bowled out by a little girl….Pagan

Unfortunately I didn’t get to see the game, we had a charity game on at our local cricket club, so a bit miffed.

However on the bright side we’ve made over £5k on the bar which goes to various charities, plus whatever the entry fees, stalls and collection buckets have taken. Absolutely knackered now but my kids have worked their butts off today helping out, so proud of them, Come on England….Pagan

999, interesting comment from you that the clubs would be able to cope with extra games in a European League, yet you say they couldn’t cope with going into the FA Cup from round one due to fixture congestion…..Pagan

BB, in the “good old days” when preseason matches were against lower league clubs it did bring them extra finances, Chelsea U19s played Ilkeston FC the other year, kept them afloat for a few seasons. Unfortunately now it’s about building a global fan base, especially in the developing football countries, which keeps the big club big, keeps the sponsors happy, but comes at the expense of our own smaller domestic clubs….Pagan

999, We all know it won’t happen, the players are molly coddled and couldn’t possibly cope with two extra games, so much so that come the last game of the season they’re so tired that they immediately have to have a break from football, which they do by going on a post season tour to the Far East or America.

I just think that the big teams should have a bit of a responsibility to the football in this country, and playing in the earlier rounds of the FA Cup May put extra finances in the pockets of the smaller clubs, don’t start me on what they do for grass roots footy….Pagan

999, does it really matter how many teams enter the competition? The top teams only play a maximum of 6 games with all but a the semifinalists only playing 4 games. It’s strange but you don’t hear the winners of the FA Cup complaining they’ve played more domestic games than their rivals.

As for the League cup, play the U23s from start to finish.

I’m sure the top earners wouldn’t mind the extra two games if was introduced, the choice being taking a wage cut to play in mainland Europe.

To be honest the teams have told us how they can’t possibly play so many games and now the players can’t cope, but they would willingly play more European games with the money that brings…..Pagan

999, and there’s the problem in a nutshell, the top clubs have too much power, if they’re told to enter from round 1 then that’s what they should do, the FA is the governing body so they should make the rules.
Strangely the clubs in Europe don’t mind having those extra games….Pagan

I’ve said this before, put the Prem teams into the FA Cup from round 1, that should spread some money around. Don’t go down the “there’s too many games” road, players on £300k a week, suck it up…..Pagan

999, there is no interpretation of the new law, so it has to be adhered to in all leagues, it’s been changed so it’s black and white, at least the law can be changed back, however with the money spent VAR is here to stay….Pagan

Mr. Balance, the ball being over the line by 11mm, that’s not changed since pitches had lines on them, the whole of the ball has to cross the whole of the line, Hawkeye is just very accurate, and is used to uphold a black and white law. The problem for me now is we have technology we’re changing the laws of the game to make them suit it…..Pagan
