I’ve said this before, if you have to look at it several times, it’s not a clear and obvious error. That should cut the decision time down considerably. Get rid of the ridiculous micro analysis and just cut the howlers out…..Pagan

Chuckles, any part of the body you can score with is the definition of offside
999, the second phase of play doesn’t happen if the correct decision is given initially.

999, VAR was brought in to correct clear and obvious errors, that’s fact, but because we have the technology it’s being used to micro analyse. 1st phase, 2nd phase, 3rd phase is irrelevant, not calling that decision correctly has ended up in a goal, subsequently ruled out in this case, and now we have the technology to right a wrong the pressure will be on to use it in all decisions. From a governing body point of view it would be very hard to put a case against it laws wise, for the flow of the game a case could be made, but that just turns one type of controversy into another….Pagan

999, but it was a game altering decision, the second phase wouldn’t have happened had the assistant referee not made a glaring clear and obvious game changing error, as you said offside is offside. You can’t have the technology and then decide when and where to use it, every decision is game changing, welcome to the future….Pagan

999, offside is offside, a ref can’t decide when he is or isn’t going to implement a law, you know as well as I do, eventually all decisions will be reviewed as every decision alters the course of a game, what we’re seeing now is the start of it, us old buggers will hate it but the younger generation will accept it as the norm….Pagan

Rodgers is doing a great job at Leicester, you have to give anybody credit who can get a side to be better than the sum of it’s parts. Not only are the working for each other, they’re also playing good football….Pagan

999, in tennis as goal line technology the camera is monitoring a Static line and seeing if a ball has crossed it or not, offside isn’t as simple as that, see my previous post.
As for the assistant putting his flag up, basic footy, you play to the whistle.
Kane’s goal was fantastic, and shows what you can do if you don’t just play for the foul, and I think he should be getting plaudits for it…..Pagan

Mr. Balance, I have no problem with the accuracy of goal line technology, it’s a static line monitored by static cameras, and as such can be extremely accurate. Off side is another matter as everything is dynamic.
A proper camera angle is nigh on impossible as the camera would always have to be level with the second last player, and as such would have constantly be moving….Pagan_____________________________

It would be interesting to see what the tolerance is on the VAR system, with the goal line technology were only talking in monitoring a static line of 8 yards, with offside were looking at monitoring a dynamic line of 68 yards over 105 yards (average pitch sizes) yet we’re saying we’re accurate to a centimetre or so when the ball starts going forward, which in itself is a best guess.
Going back to the Spurs Leicester game, VAR shouldn’t have been used on the Leicester goal, that was obviously offside and the assistant should have flagged, the Spurs goal I don’t think the system is accurate enough to be 100% sure….Pagan_____________________________

So here’s how it goes, Team A is on the attack and play a through ball to their forward, he runs through on goal but the defender from Team B gets a great tackle in and the ball goes out for a corner. Team A then score from the corner. But when you look back, the initial ball is played through to the attacker from Team A he was offside, currently I don’t think it will be reviewed as it didn’t lead to a goal, however a mistake was made as the assistant refs are told to hold back from flagging tight offsides as VAR will sort them out if a goal is scored, and from that mistake a goal was scored. The argument will go “but now we have the technology blah blah blah” so eventually any possible offside will become a standard review. From there it goes to every corner/goal kick decision, then throws etc. But hey you wanted a sterile game, now you’ve got it don’t moan……Pagan

999, that’s not what I’m saying, VAR was bought it under the guise of clear and obvious errors, that’s not what it’s being used for, dress it up however you like, but don’t moan about the new handball rule as hand ball is hand ball, and that will be anywhere on the pitch in the near future. Expect more changes in the laws of the game to accommodate technology…..Pagan

Mak, exactly, I get full kits [shirt, shorts and socks) for between £12 and £14 depending on size, which is why I don’t buy replica shirts at £50+ a pop as I don’t like getting ripped off….Pagan

It’s a vicious circle, the fans want their teams to win things, to win things you need the best players (as a team) the players know that the game is awash with money, the fans pay through TV subscriptions, merchandise and match attendance….Pagan

999, VAR was meant to correct clear and obvious errors, that’s not the reality though, it’s being used to micro analyse, which is the sharp end of the wedge, as now we have the technology it will end up being used for every decision, as every decision effects the outcome of the game….Pagan
