Usually it’s if the initial shot is on target then it goes down as a goal, if the shot was not on goal and it gets deflected in its an own goal. It stops having huge amounts of own goals but takes no account of the severity of the deflection, which makes some goals awarded to attacking players comedic….Pagan

Brian, over analysis, like poor player behaviour in grass roots football is a direct result of TV, the pundits endlessly scrutinise the game and we the viewers then start to do it, much like the kids who play Saturday and Sunday mornings think mouthing off at the refs the done thing because that’s what they see on MOTD and Sky…..Pagan

Snakey, not sure if Spurs have been lucky to hold onto their players, I would say it was more like the players bought into the fact that they were at a club on the rise and as such it was a great wave to ride, however the club seemed to have plateaued or even regressed, which then causes players to reassess their situation…..Pagan

442, it would seem you haven’t read many of myself and 999’s conversations, or have a very short memory, we have written reams on the subject of trying to integrate youth players into the first team. No one to my knowledge has lauded Frank to be the best thing since sliced bread, and if you’d read any of my posts when it was rumoured that Frank would be coming you’d find that I’d posted a lot about Frank being the figurehead and Jody being the more experienced coach, and with the involvement of Eddie Newton there would be a great knowledge of the talent in the youth set up.
Regarding the defence v attack imbalance, you can’t teach creativity, you can possibly hone it and improve it, if you could teach it then the world would be full of Eden Hazards, yes you can coach attacking play but that’s not the same. Defence is all about discipline and positioning, and yes you still have to have talent but the art of defending is far easier to coach.
Not sure how relevant Jose is in footy at the moment, his pragmatic style of football doesn’t seem to work anymore and his man management style is out of kilter with the modern footballer.
Foootydebate is a great site, yes there’s a few fallings out, but please try not to bring the TT antagonistic style of posting, civilised debate is far more interesting and enlightening…..Pagan

24th September 2019 at 8:09 pm in reply to: Isn't it time that we stopped supporting terrible companies? #48341Not sure Adidas are much better than Nike, they had a shocking reputation for labour exploitation in trainer and football manufacturing. Allegedly they’re trying to be more open on their suppliers now, but how far do you follow the supply chain down.
Let’s face it, to be competitive in the same market you’d suspect they employ similar manufacturing supply chains, I just suppose which company gets targeted by the journalists….Pagan

The more money a club has the more success it will have (generally)
Greed is good
Money has no morals
Think you’ll have a kit that ticks the above next season

Lads, take a step back, Klopp won an award that was voted for Europe wide, Liverpool were involved in some brilliant game in the CL and came a very close second to what is considered Europe wise as one, if not the best side on the continent. Had the vote just been in England then I dare say with Man City’s domestic dominance the result may have been different, but it was a European award voted for by Europeans with European eyes….Pagan

442. Although I get your point about not conceding, we are good going forward. Defence is easier to coach than attack, that is to say position is easier than creativity to coach, so with time and the right coaching I think we’ll be fine.
As for poacher in the box, that’s exactly what we need, there’s a big difference between a great goal scorer and a scorer of great goals.
I have no idea of your age, but in the late 70s early 80s Chelsea were often used in comedic fashion as a byword for useless. For me as an old bugger over the last 15 to 20 years I’ve seen Chelsea do things I could only dream of, now we’ve done that with the money we’ve spent there’s always been that niggle of wanting to be successful with home grown players, I for one would at least like to see us have a bash at bringing youth through…..Pagan

442, aren’t stats brill!!, no mention that Chelsea are joint third highest scorers in the league, and that although the squad may not have changed dramatically (barring Mount, Tomori and Abraham) the starting line up is vastly different.
Similar can be said of a Derby County this season, who barring their 3 loan players leaving have basically the same squad. However the general opinion locally seems to be that although Lampard had a lot to learn tactically the players genuinely liked playing for him and compensated for his limited experience with hard work, so hopefully he can bring that to the bridge.
It’s early days yet and as long as we see improvement over the season and thing remain harmonious I for one will be reasonably happy, let’s face it we’ve had worse seasons….Pagan

Can’t see how you can call yourselves champions of Europe when you’re not even the best club in your own country, a bit like saying in an average season the FA cup winners are the best team in the country.
I’ll get my coat..?
But seriously both teams were fantastic last season and which manager deserved the accolade is just an opinion of those that decide and what qualities they prefer….Pagan

Adlab, if that’s correct then it’s ridiculous, if you run at 25kmh, which is easily done by football players then 25mm [1 inch in old money) takes about four one thousandths (0.004) of a second, you can’t judge that accurately when the balls being kicked, which makes a bit of a mockery on the recent VAR decisions….Pagan
