Threeps, that’s the old “not interfering” guidance, now you can receive the ball in an offside position and if the assistant doesn’t pick it up you play on and then in the “next phase” (which is an opinion) you can play the ball to someone (second phase) who then scores a legitimate goal and the offence in the first phase is ignored. The end of first phase and start of second phase is an opinion and as such makes a mockery of VAR….Pagan

Adlab, and there’s the thing, VAR was wanted (by some) to make sure there were no errors, but it’s only being used when it suits. If they’re offside in the “first phase” then they’re offside and the second phase doesn’t happen…..Pagan

Threeps, we didn’t have VAR then, so a decision could take some time…Pagan

28th September 2019 at 4:41 pm in reply to: Isn't it time that we stopped supporting terrible companies? #48671Brian, when you’re giving football clubs 40-60 £m a season and then paying out on individual sponsorship deals then you have to use the cheapest suitable materials and labour and then charge ridiculous retail prices. All the top brands charge basically the same, almost as if they have a bit of a cartel going on.
Designer gear is all about marketing a brand and then keeping it exclusive by overcharging….Pagan_____________________________

28th September 2019 at 3:55 pm in reply to: Isn't it time that we stopped supporting terrible companies? #48667999, Brian, you could almost live with changing the home shirt one season and the away the next, but three new kits a season is blatantly a rip off. I’ve said before I get full kits (socks, shorts, shirt) for between £12 and £14 a player depending on size. These last at least three seasons, but to be honest in the junior sides after two seasons they’ve usually grown out of them…..Pagan

28th September 2019 at 7:13 am in reply to: Isn't it time that we stopped supporting terrible companies? #48632Mr. Balance, and that’s the problem, clubs need the 40, 50, 60 £m a season from the kit manufacturers so they can buy and pay the wages of the superstar players and give their fans the success they demand. That money has to come from somewhere, cheap manufacturing costs and expensive retail prices. As for the designer gear you talk about, the quality may be higher but you pay extortionate prices for the embroidered logo….Pagan

27th September 2019 at 8:51 pm in reply to: Isn't it time that we stopped supporting terrible companies? #48625Bloody hell Mr. Balance, you live in the area that’s economy used to be based on knitting, Leicester was full of factories producing garments and Loughborough manufactured knitting machines that were used the world over. Unfortunately it became cheaper to import rather than manufacture.
As for your shirt doubling in price over the last quarter of a century, look at house prices over the same time frame.
As for Made In Japan (great album) that’s so 70s, production has moved on to India and China now via Taiwan, my guess is African countries will be next….Pagan

Mak, that only works if they can’t just go and sign for another club without having to personally reimburse Derby for their current market value. The Bosman ruling stops the club holding onto the players registration which sort of plays into the players hands though, however the Mutu episode at Chelsea could have some relevance….Pagan

Threeps , quite nice Allestree, as is Duffield, which is where I believe they were heading, though from their behaviour you’d think they should have been going to Allington or Peartree….Pagan

Brian, those comments make me laugh as well, such gems as “only he could make that pass”
“He saw the gap and curled the ball into it, only he could do that” no mention of the 4 previous times it’s gone into row z. Personally I like park footy and grass roots footy, no money just for the love of the game….Pagan_____________________________

Brian, totally agree that the dissection of a game seems to be entertainment wise more important than the actual game. I don’t watch the pre and post match stuff if I watch a game, with MOTD I record it Saturday night and watch it Sunday morning and skip the analysis between game, as an aside is Gary really worth his salary as most of the people I know also skip between the games. My favourite quote about all the stats was from Brian Clough, he was asked if he have had all the player stats and analysis info we get now from Pro Zone etc when he was a manager did he think he’d have been a better, he replied we did have it we just called it our eyes…..Pagan

442, following on from your comment yesterday regarding Derby County’s defence, I was bored so had a look. Derby finished in 6th place, only two of the teams above them conceded less goals, and in the whole league they had the equal fifth best defence, which wasn’t too shabby I’d suggest. Tomori was Derby’s Player of the year, but he did have a very experienced defender in Keogh next to him, probably mentoring him to some extent. Hopefully when Rudiger gets back and we have the same sort of partnership and with the addition of Kanye things will get better……Pagan
