999, that’s a bit harsh on English managers, really to be a good international manager you need experience at a high level, and I would say preferably in more than one country.
A bit like developing our own players, which is now starting to happen(long process when your raw material is the 8 year old) we now need to start developing managers and giving them a chance, which is easier said than done, maybe we have to make the junior national teams a well paid option for them as you can’t expect domestic clubs to sacrifice success to develop them, however it would be nice to see some of them give an English manager a go….Pagan

As I’ve said before, that’s what Premier League football would be like without the overseas players….Pagan

Oh god, it’s who’s the best manager thread again, as I’ve said before
Pep – good at keeping an already successful team successful in the short term
Klopp, good at building a team at a sleeping giant
Ferguson – was brilliant at maintaining success
But for me, to take a team from mid table in the second tier to champions in the top league in 5 years, and then to take a different club from mid table in the second tier to league champions in the top league and double European Cup winners in 5 years, Cloughie is the best.
Yep it’s all about opinions…..Pagan

My initial post was written about Pep, and yes I did think about putting a bit about Frank and hoping he could do similar things, however I decided to intentionally miss that out in order to get a bit of debate going, which it seems to have done.
For me, with Chelsea having the transfer ban, Jody and Frank were the best options, and personally I’d like to see the two windows ban upheld so the youngsters get a whole season to prove themselves and others may get a chance to stake a claim in the domestic cup Competitions should we keep progressing.
I just hope when the ban is lifted we buy sparingly and specifically to cover the positions we are weak in and don’t just blanket buy and shove the kids back into the token appearance mode just to try and keep them happy…..Pagan

Liverpool Fans, when you go to the fair or theme park, do you worry about the safety of the rides, whether they are maintained properly, are they structurally sound?
Well following a club is like a being on a rollercoaster, you can’t affect anything, so just enjoy the ride….Pagan

999, to be honest I was thinking of Pep when I wrote it, one season with Barca B and then straight into the big time…..Pagan

Brian, out of interest, do you think that City miss Kompany’s influence in the dressing room? Even when not fit did he bring something to the team?…Pagan

Let’s face it, what top club would bring in a manager who only has one seasons of experience of management, and that wasn’t in the top league??….Pagan

C67, to be honest I don’t think Ferguson left when he wanted, he left when he knew he had to. Ferguson ruled with a rod of iron, once player power got a foot in the door at Man U his days of ruling by fear were over. You have to credit him for what he achieved and knowing when his time was up…..Pagan

Pep and Klopp, although successful managers have a different pedigree.
Pep has been successful at Barca, Bayern and City, however all three of these teams had won their domestic leagues at least twice in the five seasons preceding him taking over.
Klopp, may not have quite the trophy collection of Pep, but with Dortmund and Liverpool he has taken over teams without a league title in a decade or more.
Make of that what you like, but to me it would seem if you want a successful team to keep being successful Pep’s your man, if you need to build a team then it’s Klopp…..Pagan

On the subject of Ginger Baker, coincidentally with Glastonbury tickets going on sale today, I saw him there in 1981, those were the days, £8 for a whole weekend ticket, in fact if you walked by the site they’d try and get you to come in….Pagan

Bit of an addition to my post on cynical fouls, having semi watched the Chelsea game, one of the commentators or pundits when talking about the Southampton goal said the Chelsea player should have fouled the Southampton player, not just dangled a leg out he should have moved in front of him and blocked him. I’m not condoning the tackle on Salah, but what chance do we have when commentators and pundits are saying professional/cynical fouls are part of the game and are encouraging them…..Pagan

Mak, don’t just take 1 line out of a paragraph and quote it, the question was do you think he’s the type of person to feign injury, not was he injured, and yes I stick by my answer, all pro footballers feign injury.
As for the “tackle” I’ve answered that on the Liverpool going forward thread….Pagan

999, Zouma and Tomori are 24 & 21 respectively, defenders need experience, the best way to get it would be to play with an experienced defender, which we don’t have the luxury of doing so at the moment. As a comparison how was VVD doing at those respective ages?…..Pagan

He’s a professional footballer, the slightest touch and they roll around the floor in supposed agony, sometimes holding parts of the body that weren’t even touched, then in a Lazarus moment they’re up and running about, so yes he is the type to blag an injury, that’s what they all do….Pagan
