The thing about the FA Cup is it’s one game, and in the good old days you had replays which were great for the lower league clubs, if they got a draw at home they got a day out, and if they got a draw a away, you brought the big boys back home and made them get changed in a portacabin. The new format is a winner takes all which can produce surprise results, but a midweek replay on a field in the rain was a great leveller….Pagan

Yes I would, I prefer them to win the FA Cup than the CL, The League is always No.1 for me, I like the straight knockout formula of the FA Cup, and if the CL was done on that system I would probably swap those two round. I just find the CL a money making exercise for the big boys….Pagan

To be honest, for me it’s The League, FA Cup, Europe if it’s there then the League Cup, in that order, do like to see the youth giving it a go…Pagan

Yeah, in all seriousness it does give the teams with let’s say more prestigious trophies to go for a chance to blood the youngsters, it’s a bit like a transfer ban for the other clubs…Pagan

                  442, Stevo,

It’s a strange phenomenon, and it’s always been the same, the top couple or three teams think that there’s a conspiracy against them winning the league, whereas the rest of the league think the exact opposite and all decisions go their way….Pagan

To be honest, I think both Adidas and Nike try too hard with kits, personally I like simple kits but obviously that’s no good if you want fans to buy a new shirt every season. So the companies have to make sure each new kit is substantially different from any others they’ve done. So normally your shirts get worse the longer you stay with one brand…Pagan

I think I’m going to follow 9s stance on this following this post. I probably am at the other end of the debate to 9 but as he says the actual footy is getting overshadowed by VAR, so until the end of season report, here goes.

We have to keep VAR as it is for the rest of the season to maintain consistency throughout it.

I think we need to get rid of the clear and obvious tag line and ask the question should the officials have seen the incident and acted on it in real time. That gets rid of the stupid offside decisions and there would be none of the debate around Man Ctiy’s goal as you could not expect to Silva’s touch in real time.

The other comment I have is that the players don’t respect the VAR system as they still surround the ref and argue after the incidents have been reviewed. If the players don’t believe in it how do you expect the fans to….Pagan

VAR was sold as a system to make sure the correct decision was given, but that’s not happened, it’s not human error as such in my belief, it’s the fact that football is t suitable for it.

Tennis, one moving thing (the ball) and one stationary (the line) it’s in or out

Cricket, the vast majority of the action is within the wicket, the camera is also aided by ultra-edge and ball tracking, the only contentious decisions are whether catches are grounded.

Rugby, again most of the TMO is centred around the actual ball, whether it moves forward or it’s a try, the ball also moves slower than in football.

Football, goal line technology works well as it’s basically the same as tennis, it’s everything else that’s the problem, there’s so many things moving, the ball the players and because the ball is played in any direction very quickly the area that has to be covered in high detail is vast.

I’m not sure what the solution is, but I preferred not having it to how it is now….Pagan

To be honest Adlab, I thought the only problem we would see was the length of time to get to a decision, and that the decisions it would correct would be the clear and obvious ones that you saw for the second time and knew the officials had made a howler, unfortunately that’s not what’s happened, it’s not being used to correct the clear and obvious in some instances, it’s nit picking beyond its capabilities in regards to offside and getting those events it does look at right. We’re stuck with it now so they need to go back to the drawing board and lay down the rules on how and when it will be used in a realistic and consistent way….Pagan

9, VAR gets a kicking because it’s not good enough, you continually defend it, but you criticise a ref that only gets one look at things….Pagan

Adlab, and there’s one of the major problems, VAR isn’t accurate enough for the ridiculous offsides it gives, but then it isn’t used for all cards, which could lead to game changing events. Fortunately today it didn’t affect the result, but in other games it may, and the suspensions or non suspensions could affect future games…Pagan

Adlab, for me if you have to get out of the way of the ball in the middle of the goal then you are interfering with play. The keeper has to make a decision based on the fact the player may touch the ball…..Pagan

I think the main difference between Rugby, tennis, cricket and football when it comes to VAR is the fact that when the offside decisions are given the ball is never shown. In Tennis and cricket it’s all about the ball, rugby it’s normally to to with the ball but in footy regarding offside which is probably one of the more controversial subjects it’s all about players position, showing the actual kicking of the ball may bring more clarity….Pagan

Personally I still think VAR will be used more and more, and although it will eliminate the vast majority of errors it will ruin the game….Pagan
