Sean, they seem to be saying that the damage was done by the players boot getting caught in the ground in between the two challenges….Pagan

The reports from Sky say that the ref changed the card from yellow to red due to the severity of the injury, VAR didn’t overule the red as due to the severity of the injury then Son’s tackle was deemed to have endangered the opponent.
Now endangered means to put in danger, or put in a situation that may cause harm or damage. So logically that means all trips have the potential to cause the horrific injury we have seen today, does that mean all trips are now a red? That’s what they seem to have just said.
As for Son, no way should he be banned, you see that type of tackle many times in a game….Pagan

Have to feel for all three involved in the incident and those close up in the crowd. Just have to hope it’s a straight forward break with no undue complications…Pagan

How is that a red card? Ref pulls out a yellow, sees the severity of the injury and produces a red…..Pagan

I think we should get all the VAR incidents put together and bet on the decisions they come to. It seems totally random, we could call it univarsity challenge….Pagan

999, so now the refs need to be anatomical experts, I guess by definition half of the armpit must be on the arm the rest on the torso, you couldn’t make it up. It’s like when you were a kid and played footy against your dad, he just made the rules up as he went along, a bit like the football in the film Kes….Pagan

I suspect there may be some interference in the normal gravitational pull on earth in the Liverpool area today, not sure who will be affected by it yet though….Pagan

999, exactly, it needs to be clear and obvious, something that in real time the assistant should be expected to get right, not the micro analysis. I don’t think anyone would argue with that, it should only take one look and less than 15 seconds…Pagan

Mr. Balance, it’s played with all of the body at the moment (that could change with young players if they ban heading the ball) but only 2 can use their hands…Pagan

999, here’s your quote, you say it was the wrong decision, so he got it wrong.
“I remember a West Ham v Chelsea game from a couple of years ago at Upton Park when a Fabregas goal was deemed to be offside by the linesman and when Sky drew the line a miniscule part of Cesc’s knee was offside which would have been impossible for linesman to spot on in real time.
Under those circumstances it was the wrong decision but under VAR it would have been the right decision because a goal could be scored off the knee.”

Looking at the Andy Gray video, you can’t tell with the naked eye wether it’s offside or not for a few reasons,
1. The camera is not in line with the the last but one player
2. Where is the ball? If you can’t see it how do you know when it’s being kicked?
3. Frame rate. We’re judging movements that take thousandths of a second with a frame rate of the cameras that don’t allow for that accuracy.
4. What is the accuracy of perpendicularity to the touch lines?

999, saying the assistant ref got the call wrong in the West Ham match is totally incorrect, he got the call bang on if you believe that a review system can be that accurate, however it was by pure luck.
I don’t want VAR, but as you say we are stuck with it, but it has to be used for what it was brought in for, clear and obvious mistakes, which translated should be decisions that the officials would be expected to get right in real time, not the somewhat flawed micro analysis we now have…Pagan

I realise that 9, but who’s going to play second fiddle, as we know the players now hold the power and bearing that in mind keeping our young talent is going to be a challenge, especially if they’re not first choice, the flip side of course is who’s going to come to play second fiddle….Pagan

To be honest I think we already have replacements for Willian and Pedro in Pulisic and Hudson Odoi. It’s a difficult one for Frank and Jody….Pagan

Missed the last 20mins of the rugby as my youngest leaves school next year and their chosen college had an open day, but the Boks were stronger, wanted it more and stopped England playing their game.
Just back from there and now watching the footy before I’m off to cricket practice, so will probably miss the Chelsea game. Is 1-0 a fair reflection?….Pagan

999, we’re currently doing well in the league despite having quite a few players missing, come the lifting of the transfer ban, whenever that may be, where do you think we need to strengthen?
More importantly which players are going to be told they’re not good enough (either old guard going past there peak or youngsters not ready yet) and who’s development is going to be blocked? The youngsters won’t get any better watching from the sidelines.
For me the transfer ban has shown the quality of young players we can develop, and has shown that there is a pathway to the first team, which makes retaining and attracting the best youngsters so much easier.
Frank and Jody having a sizeable transfer kitty is fine, but it has to be spent wisely on key positions that the academy are unlikely to be able to fill in the next two to three seasons. I just hope they don’t go out and spend spend spend on players because they can and end up reverting to type…..Pagan
