If my cynical brain is correct, then the idea is to get rid of the continental based nations summer tournaments and replace them with another global one, so that will effectively get rid of UEFA and the like, that sort of paves the way for continental or global club level super leagues………Pagan

They have no extra prevention practices in reality, they do have testing but so do other professions and they wouldn’t be exempt.

And unfortunately Mak, being able to sometimes kick a bag of wind into 24 x 8 frame doesn’t elevate them above being an everyday Joe.

Whilst the rules were written pre COVID, we can’t re write them retrospectively for the top teams to benefit.

This should have been thought about ages ago, but then again the same people didn’t realise it was hot in the summer in Qatar……Pagan

In addition to the above, clubs that bought players that they knew would probably be selected for the Africa Cup of Nations, which was held mid season every two years didn’t get any special treatment, despite losing players for three or four weeks. I personally see that as no different to this, however the ACN is now held in June so no longer has the same impact………..Pagan

As far as I understand, if you refuse to play for your country when selected then you can be subject to a period where you cannot play for your club. I believe this is a fairly long standing rule.

If a country has a quarantine rule then people that travel have to obey this unless there is a very good reason.

If you choose to not to travel then expect to not be able to play, clubs may put pressure on players to not travel as the “suspension” period may be less than the quarantine period at either end of the journey.

Playing a game of footy isn’t really a good enough reason to bypass the quarantine rules.

Clubs may not like the rules and respective punishments, but that’s the way it is…….Pagan

Your from a different era when cricket was played in schools, Ben is a Kiwi, they do rugby and cricket.

In our day footy at all levels stopped at the beginning of May and started end of August, it’s now all the way through.

Partially true, except for the fact Joe Root ended up as a boarder on a sports scholarship.

Stokes is an exception, actually a Kiwi by birth, and the son of a professional rugby player, so sport, particularly rugby and cricket were in his DNA.

It’s not so easy to play in the nets at night now, most grounds are locked and nets are only allowed to be used when supervised………Pagan

Yep, Dave went round and retuned all the stuff he had of other people’s, records tapes and the like, paid for his own funeral and committed suicide, never saw it coming.

They only got back together because Tony’s son didn’t believe that Dave from his dads old band had taught Andy Sneap (ex Sabbat, Judas Priest and renowned producer) to play guitar. He wrote to Andy to see if it was true and they reformed the band to finally record the album.

Seen Nightwish a few times, think they’re on their third vocalist now, their version of the snowman is a good Christmas alternative.

Hell were fantastic in their early days, didn’t do gigs, they did almost theatrical performances, all ended in tragedy though in the late 80s. Still have a load of tapes recorded at their early practices in the local church hall before they got banned for being Devi worshippers, which of course they weren’t, but was quite funny all the same.

Lucky, have a listen to “on earth as it is in hell” by a band called Hell, local band to me, that particular song was written in 1982/3 finally released in 2008, they were so far ahead of their time.

Quite a sad story really if you read into it, and them being really local they were personal friends…….Pagan

Nil, just read your post from 18/6, the sad truth is cricket isn’t played it state schools anymore, kids are only exposed to it if the attend private school or their dad plays or played.

Compared to footy cricket is expensive, is more weather dependent and requires a lot of parental input especially when they start playing adult cricket, unfortunately it’s still run by the posh boys club and until that changes it’s popularity won’t improve……..Pagan

Guns and Roses, saw them at a half full Rock City in 87, supported by Faster Pussy Cat, both absolutely brilliant though, Mr Rose decided “encores suck” as someone threw an empty plastic glass onto the stage.

Nirvana, saw them at Trent Polytechnic in 90, was taken by a friend in the music business who said they were going to be made into the next big thing (so not really manufactured then) they were awful live, one of three bands I would have asked for my money back (if I’d paid)
