Domestic title for me every time, winning the CL is nice but it really only carries any kudos if you win your own league at the same time, difficult to call yourselves champions of Europe if you’re not champions of your own country…..Pagan

It’s a tricky situation at Chelsea with their being a lot of youngsters in the team, do you buy a first choice player and block the youngsters, or buy a back up but not get the quality. Forward wise we probably need another first choice to share the workload and give us a plan B, but it’s quite easy to rotate forwards. It’s the defence that’s the conundrum, if you bring in an experienced quality defender who drops out, and then where and how do they get the experience they need?

The thing that makes football the game it is, is the atmosphere it creates. That atmosphere is generated by the crowd, and it has to have both home and away fans for it to work. England, not only with its tradition of football but is small size as a country is brilliantly suited to this and this is what makes it the best league in the world entertainment wise.

European footy will kill this as it will price out the hard core home and away every game fan, and in will step the once a season day out fan. This is not knocking that fan as we have them now, but they are the minority, but with this I see them becoming the majority. For me if you destroy the atmosphere you destroy the spectacle….Pagan

9, Summer or Winter no one wants to sell their best players, especially to a competitor, hence I think anyone of significance will come from abroad. Obviously if you sell a £60m player you can get a £90m one for £30m.

The only real difference between summer and winter transfer wise (Discounting being cup tied) is the length of the window, but then the majority seem to leave it until the last minute anyway, something I’ve never been able to understand. Get who’s you want in early, sell who you want early, then take the phone off the hook…Pagan

9, I don’t think it’s any tougher to get a player if you have the cash to spend and you spend early, what it is difficult to do is get a player of the caliber we need that isn’t restricted from playing in certain competitions….Pagan

I’ll put my two penneth into the debate.

Firstly on Messi winning, we have to understand that it’s a European award voted for by Europeans, of which we are only a small contingent. How many times do we say, “bet he wouldn’t be so good on a cold February night in Newcastle” or “wonder if he’ll be able to adapt to the premiership” whilst we appreciate a defender who’ll put full bodied tackles in, it’s probably not the thing in other countries as that would end in an early bath. VvD has the footballing qualities from European leagues with the steel required in our league that he has added in order to excel. Basically what I’m saying although he’s appreciated here, they’re not elsewhere.

As for JT, he was a proper English centre back who could play a bit. What he lacked in pace he made up for in positional nouse, but what made him the player he was, was his leadership and his contagious passion and effort. Was he as good a defender technically as VvD, probably not, was he a better leader than VvD is, then probably yes, but what they both have in common is their importance to their team….Pagan
