9, the odd times are to allow a video on mental health to be shown at all grounds prior to kick off, great move by the FA in my opinion….Pagan

Ed, and there’s the problem, they don’t have the experience, top clubs should be developing managers, starting in their youth set ups, then subsidising their wages at lower league clubs whilst still mentoring them and then bringing them in as assistants etc. ……Pagan

That’s because no one will bring in a new face to manage them, so we constantly get the same faces popping up, having short term success and then spectacularly failing, getting sacked and going back on the managerial merry go round.
I personally don’t think it’s a lack of them, just a fear from the top clubs to try to find them and taking a risk…..Pagan

Liverpool seem to be bucking that trend and doing quite well with a longer term manager….Pagan

Quite amusing to read the Man United fans on here, it’s a bit like reading the Chelsea sites over the last 15 or so years.
Foreign owners, revolving door on the managers office, player power, no footballing identity. Ken Bates was right when he said Manchester United will one day be known as the Chelsea of the North……Pagan

The way it’s going you can see VAR being scrapped in its current form and this season going down in history as the season that never was…..Pagan

Talking of shirts, the new retro FA Cup shirt looks good, shame they didn’t go a bit more retro on the price….Pagan

9, that’s true, but for me I think daylight between is the way to go. Maybe also go with a “soft call” as they do with cricket, so that if it’s marginal you stick with the on field decision….Pagan

9, the law has to be the same top to bottom, I belive the whole of the ball over the whole of the line fits into that category. The way it’s confirmed may be different but the law is the same.
As for the accuracy of VAR, the frame rate is too slow for such small margins and the point at which the ball moves forward is only a best guess. So not the most accurate.
As for the Souness idea, if you set a any part of the body onside, you’ll still get it being measured to the mm. Just because the technology is allegedly accurate enough, doesn’t mean you have to push it to the limit. In real life terms Speed cameras are extremely accurate, but we’re given a bit of leeway, imagine if tickets were handed out if you were 0.01 over the speed limit. Please don’t go down the road of speedo tolerances, as rolling radii of tyres is very accurate nowadays, and speedos always show faster than actual unless you modify your car after the power train…..Pagan

9, I don’t really think it’s plausible to change the offside law, it really has to be the same from top flight to grass roots, yes a part of the body being onside would be a good idea, but not as a black and white rule, more as a guide, if you make it a rule, then we’re back to the armpit situation we’re in now. The problem is as the BBC article says is it’s being used probably beyond its accuracy……Pagan

Mr Balance, if you substitute “clear and obvious” with “I’m happy with that” or “I got that wrong” when viewed once at real speed, then I think that’s where we need to be…..Pagan

9, it’s absolutely staggering how much clubs will pay, until they stop doing it it will continue. The authorities can’t even control player wages, let alone agents, who let’s be honest about they don’t really have much control over…..Pagan

9, that’s why I used the phrases in their current form, if the club stops using them to do their dirty work, ie getting round the approach rule, then they then only represent the player, who then has to do the paying.
There’s nothing to stop a club approaching a player, provided they ask permission of the club they currently play for, the parent club can refuse permission, but they should inform the player before the story gets “leaked”
Personally I don’t think you can restrict the amount an agent charges, that’s restriction of business practice, if you put a % of transfer fee on then transfer fees will go up, the only way to control it is as you say to make the person they work for do the paying, however we’re back to square on when the club approaches an agent to persuade them to get the player to move as opposed to the player asking the agent to get him (or her) a move….Pagan

9, Agents are not FIFA’s problem, the reason they exist is because the clubs started paying them to get the players they wanted. They only exist in the form they do because clubs are willing to pay them, don’t pay them then they cease to exist in the form that they currently take. The clubs created the monster only they can destroy it…Pagan

Adlab, most sides have injuries or players leaving, yes it’s nice if it’s just players leaving as usually the top teams get adequate notice, however injuries are a different case, then you have to use your squad and your youth development system.
It’s at times like these you need that cohesion of the club as a whole and trust between the first team management and the youth setup, give youth a chance…..Pagan
