Chelsea.man, the ref made a mistake, it happens, from where he was he may not have had a clear view and if he’s not 100% certain then he can’t give it. However he then took the easy way out, as most refs have done this season, by letting someone else review it, he can then point at his earpiece and say “it’s not my decision” well for me it should be his decision and he needs to take responsibility and review the incident himself….Pagan

Threeps, they may be deemed as intellectual property, I’m not sure. The crime is with the thief, not sure on that either, as receiving stolen goods is also a crime.
To be honest it’s not important, the idea was only put out there as another straw for the odd Man City fan clutch to….Pagan

Threeps, and this is a little tongue in cheek, regarding the emails, could UEFA be charged with handling stolen property?…..Pagan

Chuckles, that’s almost as bad as defenders staying deep and then stepping up and playing you offside, that’s just plain sneekey…..Pagan

Threeps, that’s why it should be the ref second checking his own decisions….Pagan

9, just to counter Gary Neville’s argument, no definitive proof was provided to actually show Giroud was offside, yes there was a nice photo of him with his foot closer to the goal than any part of the defender, but yet again this wasn’t tied to when the ball was played forward, surely that has to be part of the process they show us….Pagan

Chuckles, I’d go with the soft decision as they do with cricket, if it’s not clear and obvious with a quick look on the monitor you go with the assistants original decision…..Pagan

Park Lane, with offside analysis I’m still unconvinced that the certainty of when the ball is played forward is 100% accurate, and for me I’d like to see both the ball being played and the lines at the same time, I’d also like have the option to be able to move the frame backwards and forwards a couple of frames as they do in cricket, that option in itself would help to settle a few of the contentious decisions…..Pagan

It seems in European leagues VAR is used by the game ref to give him a second view of his decision, he toddles off to the pitch side monitor, had a quick look and then has a choice between, I’m happy with that or I made a ruck of it. In general people don’t like to admit they got something wrong, so unless it’s a massive clanger they tend to stick to their original decision, hence the phrase clear and obvious.
However in the PL at the moment there seems to be a determination to forensically disallow goals, I’m not sure why this is, I can only assume it’s either a misguided attempt to justify its use, or to counter the “we’ll have nothing to talk about” argument.
Currently in the PL it’s a mess, and until the refs take responsibility for their own decisions by self review I think it will remain so…..Pagan

Interesting body language from Maguire, when talking about the incident couldn’t look the interviewer in the eyes…..Pagan

Sean, yes, it may have been a push that led to a push, the offside, from the pictures was offside, however yet again they need to show both pictures, the one of the ball being kicked and the actual offside one, they really need to tie both of those together. But hey ho, some days you’re the pigeon and some days you’re the statue….Pagan

Unfortunately the refs had a bit of a bad night, and that happens, it’s the inconsistency of VAR that yet again has ruined the game. I personally would have no complaints about Maguire being on the pitch had it just being down to the ref, but to review it with VAR and still miss it is a cause for concern. All I can say is Man United had the “rub of the screen” tonight…..Pagan

That’s the thing though Chuckles, it’s not necessarily if your guilty or not that’s important, it’s was the correct process followed, the law as they say is an ass….Pagan

Chuckles the analogy was UEFA and Melchiot, not Blackadder and Man City, however depending on the CAS outcome both may be good…..Pagan

Have Man City broken the rules? probably
Was the evidence obtained legally? Probably not
Will that make a difference? Possibly
What I will say though is the way UEFA have handled the case is very similar to the Blackadder episode featuring “Speckled Jim” and the “Flanders Pigeon Murderer”
