Brian, I was probably one of the last proper apprentices, I started mine in 81 as a technical apprentice, the first 12 months was spent in a training centre with the craft apprentices. The idea was then that the techs went into the offices and the crafts stayed on the shop floor. I did both, as I went into the R&D section, which was brilliant.
My older brother was also apprentice trained and ended up working at a university in the engineering workshops whilst also working for himself restoring classic cars, he’s unbelievably skilled in machining, sheet metal and welding.
My eldest is currently doing an engineering apprenticeship, so hopefully he’ll do ok for himself.
The main problem in this country is that this type of skill is vastly under appreciated and paid, people want bespoke high quality work for bodge it and scarper price….Pagan

Threeps, the scenario above is for playing behind closed doors, I don’t see how a club can function with much less than 50 people, of which 25-30 would be going round the country to games and then closely coming into contact with the other team……Pagan

Football and sport in general is way down the things to do list. Restrictions will be in place until we either find a cure or prevention for this virus. The measures we have now are neither of those they’re just a means of rationing the disease.
Of course the Premier League want to resume, they’re getting pressured from the broadcasters who are losing customers and advertising revenue, but whilst we have a highly infectious and deadly disease doing the rounds unnecessarily bringing groups of people in to very close contact and then transporting them round the country to come into contact with other groups doing the same thing is absolute madness…..Pagan

Well Saturday has flown round, another week at work done.
Been at the cricket club most of the day, cutting the grass and hedges, back there tomorrow to put up a new notice board and patch up the nets until the new ones are fitted. May take the kids down midweek for a net session, it’s a private club so no problems with social distancing.
It was good to hear from Brian earlier in the week, he’s had a tough time, but he seems a tough cookie. Hope Parkie is ok too and bearing up to his situation.
Take care every one, stay strong and healthy….Pagan

9, they haven’t voided it, they’ve abandoned it, in essence it may be the same thing, but UEFA didn’t want leagues voiding and the Dutch have been quite clever….Pagan

Threeps, it’s quite clever from the Dutch, abandoning it means no winners and no losers. If you award the tittle then you have to have losers, and losers get relegated…..Pagan

Well they’re not going to ban teams from leagues that don’t complete their relevant seasons, the top teams would have a conference call and set up a European Super League.

In regards to the timing of the lockdown, if they’d done it a couple of weeks or so earlier and we’d only seen a very small fraction of infections and deaths there would be far greater pressure to go back to normality and I suspect less willingness to abide by the rules. It may sound harsh, but there needs to be an element of fear to make a lockdown work….Pagan

MPs get A salary of approx £82k whilst the PM gets about £160k, yes that’s well paid, but it’s probably harder work than kicking a bag of wind round a field, and a lot of football players earn more than and MP does in a year in a week.
It’s very easy to snipe at the people making the decisions, however there’s a lot of people out there wanting to mark their homework, but very few wanting help them do it.

What an individual does with his wealth is between them and theirs conscience, the question was, as 9 keeps reiterating, “is it right that companies that make £millions, and continue to pay certain employees £millions, use the tax payers money to furlough their lowest paid staff?”
Legally they could, but is it morally right? The general consensus is no…..Pagan

Hightown, football clubs like all sports clubs are more than Just a business, they’re part of the community, and as such all those within them have a responsibility to it….Pagan

Hightown, not all clubs make a profit, and without match day revenue they’re really going to struggle, I still think that the highest paid employees at those clubs should do something to make sure that the lowest paid members of the club and the club itself are looked after, “we’re all in this together”……Pagan

Hightown, yes it is the clubs that make the decisions, but quite how you tell someone you can’t afford to pay them their five or six hundred pounds a week and still give others two hundred thousand pound a week and still sleep at night is beyond me…..Pagan
