LD, when they split from the old league structure they successfully sucked out all the money they could from the game and gave it to players and agents. I’d love to have someone convince me that the the top footballers are worth the money they earn and to justify agents fees being payed by clubs to them when they actually work for the players.
If it’s thought that the money being so generously given by the Prem teams is them supporting the game, then we only need think it’s equivalent to Chelsea’s transfer budget, and probably falls way short of their wage bill.
COVID has had a far greater effect on the lower league clubs as they’re more dependent on match day revenue, however players at all level now have a far more inflated worth of themselves and clubs have had to stretch themselves to be competitive, this is a direct effect of the money at the top end of the game and the desire of clubs and fans to reach the holy grail of top division….Pagan

LD, I think all the prem is responsible for is selling the soul of football fo thirty pieces of silver, now they’re trying to ease their conscience by being the knight on their charger riding in to save the day, however if you take a closer look they’re probably less the knight in shining armour, but more one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse…..Pagan

Ed, the ones with special status are the big 6 plus those that have been ever present in the prem.
£250m isn’t that much when it’s shared between 92 clubs, and as they say there’s no such thing as a free dinner, and once you’ve eaten from the master’s table your stuck….Pagan

Ed, it will be 10 clubs with protected prem status, they would need a majority in order to maintain power.
I would also think that any pay per view monies in the future becomes the income of the teams involved and as such would not be included in the percentage given to the other leagues….Pagan

Well Cricket is over for this year and I’ve had a couple of weeks chilling so back to footy.
I will start by saying I’ve not really watched any, and I’ve not really got the interest to sit in front of the TV and do so.
This big picture is just a power grab by the big clubs and a few of their mates, it will give them guaranteed prem status and the right to control their own destinies.
What will the lower divisions get, well a little bit of extra cash to be shared by two more teams, the prem will keep the vast majority which will be shared by fewer, two less teams is an extra 10% and with no more parachute payments they won’t lose out at all.
Welcome to the new world where the people’s game is controlled by a few big clubs and the rest can suck it up…..Pagan

9, not overly sure about haircuts, not had one of those for a very long time.
Lock down in Melbourne, well it must be spreading towards Derby as that’s three quarters of the way between the two cities…..Pagan

9, I’m just surprised we’re only now seeing mass gatherings, as a country we’re not particularly good at doing as we’re told. Tell the population not to do something and some of the 16 to 24 age bracket will see it as a challenge, they rebel, that’s what they do….Pagan

9, no but then in your day you’d have us believe the youth never broke the law, the mods and rockers didn’t go to the coast on bank holidays because they were told not to….Pagan

Brian, 9, your starting to sound like your dad’s. Yes what they’re doing is wrong, but unfortunately that’s what young people do, from the Teddy Boys, through the psychedelic 60s the glam and Punk 70s, the metal early 80s and start of the rave scene to where we are now, the youth have always pushed the boundaries.
Today’s youth are used to going out and meeting up in the dating game, then they were locked down. The older generation have in the main tried to stick to it, and at the start so did most of the youth, but they were never going to stick to it, as the restrictions are lifted gradually, they’ve just gone for it.
It always happened, we just look back with rose tinted glasses……Pagan

Sean, they don’t present the trophy until the last game so they still have a bit of control over the team that has mathematically won the league, and I can see why they do that, however this season I think they should present it at the earliest opportunity to put it to bed and to present it to the team, if things go tits up again before the end of the season it may be presented to the Anfield receptionist by a DHL courier, and that’s some to be avoided…..Pagan

So Liverpool now have the points they need to claim the title, so well done to them, just a question, have the PL confirmed them as champions yet? I only ask as they don’t usually do that until the league has been completed in order to maintain a bit of sporting integrity. Hopefully they will do this season with the situation we’re in, that way if there are any more unforeseen problems there’ll be no arguments….Pagan

Just reading the amount clubs spent on agents fees, here’s an idea to level the playing field, for every £20m a team spends on a player you get docked 1 point and the same for every £5m you spend in agents fees…..Pagan

I see Guendouzi has not been charged for his actions after the final whistle, not sure how he got away with that one, well VAR had a look at it and said it was ok!!….Pagan

Not watched a full game yet, caught the end of the Arsenal game, but did watch a bit of MOTD Sunday morning.
Two observations
Why are they having drinks breaks, they’ve never had them in August and it’s hot then.
30 games into the season and the pitches look brand new

I would think that double barrelled names come from historically important families who didn’t have male heirs to the estate and wanted to keep the name alive.
As D1rty-H4rry said, it was always associated with posh people…..Pagan

Caught the last 20 mins of the match, more as background than watching it. Geundouzi could be in trouble after that, saw a replay of the challenge on the keeper, and although late, you expect forwards to do that to let the keeper know you’re there. The little hand out by Guendouzi at the restart on Maupay was comical, great overreaction, however the arm round the neck after the final whistle could land him in trouble, the ref saw it and may report it, and if he does it might not end well for him…..Pagan
