I’ve now watched the Everton/Liverpool game on MOTD. The Pickford challenge came after the assistant flagged for offside, and my understanding of the laws means the game stopped at that point. Looking at the challenge, yes it would have been a foul, and had the offence actually occurred during play it would have been a penalty, sending off I’m not so sure as you have to be 100% sure there was no attempt to play the ball as the double jeopardy rule applies.

The offside at the end, well that just gets filed with the rest of the forensic off side decisions VAR has given us.

We’re Liverpool harshly treated by VAR? I don’t think so. Was the decision around the Pickford incident handled correctly within the laws of the game, yes it was. Does a tweak need making to the laws of the game, maybe, buts that tricky, and will be all about opinions and may produce more controversy than it cures.

Apparently Liverpool have asked the FA about the VAR decision for the offside, not sure they have to give an answer, but a precedent has already been set, technology isn’t fool proof, Hawkeye has already proved that….Pagan

Mak, what he’s actually said is that VAR has been used to skew results previously, and that ultimately the FA are determining the results of matches, that’s a massive accusation to make.

Clear and obvious, that’s how it was sold, but right from the start it was used for micro analysis. The only thing clear and obvious is the fact it’s ruining the game….Pagan

BBC are carrying this from Henderson

“It must be offside with VAR, it’s what everyone wants,” Henderson told BT Sport. “I think they bend the lines sometimes to make it offside. I’m not sure how they do it, I’ve seen it before.”

Nil, not picking an argument, just most of us went through this 12 months ago, it was rubbish then and nothing has changed, so we’re stuck with it.

Nil, there’s no point bleating on about it, you thought VAR was great last season when other clubs were feeling the “injustice” of technology, didn’t notice you standing United with us then. It may be harsh but you’ve just got to suck it up and think to yourself, in the future I’ll be able to tell my grand kids what a great game this used to be…..Pagan

Nil, there were loads of these ridiculous offside reviews last season, my stance was get rid of VAR for anything other than howlers, with offside decisions if we have to have VAR then you have to ask “in real time should the assistant be expected to get that right” and with all these stupid ones the answer is no.

As to your improve accuracy comment, I think they judge the system to be mm accurate and therefore implement it as such.

Nil, the game has to stop at the first offence, no one has questioned the offside for the Pickford challenge, so I presume it was definitely offside, therefore that’s where the game stopped, and as I’ve already said a poor challenge although a foul can’t be acted upon unless it’s judged to be violent conduct.

As for the VAR for the offside, last season as I am this season and will be for evermore, I don’t want it and endlessly wrote so, it seemed at times it was only me and Chuckles that held that view as apparently offside was black or white, you were either on or off, as I remember Nil you were quite a fan of it…..Pagan

Sean, unfortunately it does, you can’t be booked for an attempted challenge if the ball isn’t technically in play, you can be pulled up for violent conduct though, but in order to do that you have to be sure that there was no attempt to win the ball and their was just intent to take the player. As I’ve said I’m watching the cricket so haven’t seen it yet, I take it the ref bottled it ant left it to VAR crowd and didn’t review it himself.

Whether it’s right or wrong, they’re the laws of the game.

Mak, you can’t have serious foul play when the play has stopped (at the point of the first offence) as a ref he really should stick to the laws of the game and not his opinion. I’ll probably have a watch on MOTD in the morning, the only thing that could then happen is the ref deems it violent conduct in which case the ball doesn’t need to be in play….Pagan

Not watching the footy, watching the IPL instead, I take it the the “tackle” on VVD was in the same play as the offside, in which case the offside would have been the first offence therefore there can then be no foul as the play stops at the offside…..Pagan

There’s a lot of conspiracy theory that tries to place the blame in China, well I think we need to look closer to home, I’d say look towards FIFA, UEFA and the national FA’s

One of the main criticisms of VAR was the ruining of the game for the match going public, well they’ve sorted that one…..Pagan

Special status, so must always be in the Prem, will also probably have voting rights to approve who gets let in, games will go pay per view so you want teams with big fan bases in the league, let’s face it, not a lot of money to be made it a Burton Albion managed to get in. Fixture congestion? That only exists for the big 6, and it only exists for them as they wanted the European Cup expanded for the extra revenue. So now they want more income for less work. Thankfully the clubs have rejected the big picture, it would seem that the top clubs thought it was a good idea, yet the fans of the said clubs were dead against it, or the further removed you are from the grass roots of the game the less you actually care about it…..Pagan
