Mak, it’s a system that seems hell bent on ensuring it’s own demise, the laws of the game were written for a physical game that involves contact, that were to be implemented by a referee who used his judgment on incidents in the context of the game and the conditions. Unfortunately these same laws are now being implemented to the letter by a system that wasn’t even dreamed of when they were written.
VAR only came into existence because people within the game called for it, the only way it will change is if the same people either call for its removal or find some way of controlling it’s use…..Pagan

Mak, Salah felt a bit of contact and threw himself to the ground, in much the same way Welbeck did today, in both situations there was nowhere near enough force to have that effect, however the players intentional action in both incidents was to draw the attention of the ref and VAR.
Once VAR is alerted the laws of the game are enforced, was there contact, yes, so therefore a penalty, absolutely no consideration given to the force or intent involved.
As for clear and obvious, for me VAR (if we have to have it) should only be used when it’s something you’d expect the officials to get right with one look at in real time, one they’d look at once and say “I’ve made a mistake”
It does make me laugh though, both myself and Chuckles were the only voices against VAR, we were just concerned it would sterilise the game and we’d have nothing controversial to talk about….Pagan

From a personal point of view it’s not a penalty, but there was contact, and as when Salah’s foot was touched in a recent game and he went down holding his ankle a penalty is given. The Laws of the game are being taken to literally, and are at odds with the sport itself, we’re now seeing a contact sport where any contact is an offence……Pagan

Maradona, Gazza, Best, not drugs cheats, drug addicts. Players caught up in their celebrity rock and roll lifestyles, some players are totally disciplined in their profession, others get caught up in a party lifestyle. Fortunately clubs are now far more aware of the trappings of the distractions that are out there and now educate and intervene where they see problems.
I’m sure that had we had the intrusive media we have nowadays in the late 60s and 70s, many of the icons of that era would have a tarnished legacy…..Pagan

I think they’ll just go down the hand sanitiser and common sense road, if it’s good enough for Aldi it will be good enough for football. Obviously if we use the Waitrose method it will only be 1000 fans and their butlers…..Pagan

Clubs already have the details of season ticket holders, same households can sit together, others not. The clubs issue tickets with seat numbers on them. The seating is the easy bit, the entry and egress is the problem….Pagan

When I go footy now I tend to go and watch Millwall, the crowd I go with are predominantly season ticket holders, most of them have paid for their season tickets and currently get to watch the matches on line. Now that fans are allowed back in in limited numbers it’s actually going to cost the clubs to do so, they won’t take any extra revenue but will have all the expenditure of stewards, security etc.
On another note, if they do produce match day programmes, they will probably be in far smaller quantities, which may make them collector’s items, so if any of you are lucky enough to get to a game, get yourself a programme….Pagan

I think it depends on how they’re distributed in the stadium, 2000 in one main stand is totally different to 2000 distributed around the whole stadium.
Personally I think they can get far more in stadiums and be well within the social distancing guidelines, the problem is always going to be the logistics of getting fans to and from the grounds whilst staying in the guidelines, keeping 2000 fans socially distanced in a stadium is one thing, keeping them distanced at the nearest transport hub is another….Pagan

No way will there be away fans, existing season ticket holders will be balloted by the clubs. The main problem will be fans that live in a tier 3 area wanting to go to games in tier 1 or 2. Will the clubs have to be post code selective?….. Pagan

The Derby takeover is apparently still ongoing, there were plans for video meetings between Rooney this week, add to that McLaren is now back there, it seems it’s just finalising the deal for the club and a deal for the stadium…..Pagan

It will be interesting how they decide who gets tickets as government advice is not to travel if you’re in tier 3……Pagan

Derby are skint, reliable sources say they’re spending £1.33 for every £1 they turn over, they sold their stadium to meet the FFP.
They had a good season under Lampard, however the three stars of that season, Tomori, Mount and Wilson were loan players and are no longer there……Pagan

9, if you check on the Premier league site it tells you which players are registered, not 100% but you can have more than 25 but they have to be under a certain age and fulfil homegrown criteria……Pagan
