The offside rule has to be as it is, the attacking player can’t be offside until he becomes active or interferes with play, the defender deliberately touches the ball and as such it becomes the next phase of play.

It does happen more often than you think, imagine the ball being played forward and the defender tries a back pass with his first touch and there’s a player between him and the goal at the time the original ball is played forward. Deliberately is important as even if the defender slices the ball he meant to play it, should the ball skim off the top of his head as he’s running back then that would be offside.

Brian, it’s Nottingham Forest and Notts County, they get quite touchy about that in these here parts…..Pagan

Blaze, that’s not strictly true about the offside, the player can be standing in an offside position when the ball is played forward and if a defending team player deliberately plays the ball then he’s not offside even if he doesn’t get back onside…..Pagan

Many many years ago I wrote a post on the site that shall not be named, where I compared footballers to women, the gist was that the technical players were the supermodels and although they’re great to be seen out with you still need Aggie, Kim and the two fat ladies to cook and clean for you. This is where I see Chelsea at the moment, the academy/youth set ups are producing high quality, technical players, what we need is a bit of old fashioned grit to compliment them, for me they need to be scouting that kind of player from the Championship and below…..Pagan

9, the iceman looked fantastic, and was great to play, but I had to change the original machine heads as it wouldn’t hold tune, apparently that was standard for them.
Still got my Marshall 100w superlead and 4×12 angle cab in the loft, never use it but can’t seem to get round to selling it.

Planet rock on in the background and Rory Gallagher on, great guitar player, he played a strat, and was buried with Eddie Van Halen’s original yellow and black frankenstrat..

9, electric guitar wise I started with a Westbury Standard, took ages to save up for as a 12/13 year old. I then had a little collection, Ibinez Iceman, Gibson Explorer, and an Ibinez Destroyer, which is the only one I have left, sold the Explorer when I stopped playing in bands and gave the Westbury away to a young lad who was saving up fo a guitar. 9, no doubting the heritage of fender, but for the heavier side of rock the humbucker is god. Van Halen with is frankenstrat and Dave Murray of Iron Maiden are two examples of guitarists that want the strat experience but with the heavier sound and have modified the electronics….Pagan
