RatyRatae, the Euros ran a bit late though due to covid. Clubs and fans moan about internationals, however if they were to expand the CL to 6 teams per group earning the clubs many more millions then the clubs would embrace it, bottom line it’s all about the money…………Pagan

Nil, interesting you say we’re being too accommodating playing friendlies, of course the real answer is we’re being greedy playing more CL games………..Pagan

Seeding teams is not a million miles away from the currently on hold super league, can’t have the lesser teams at the top table.
As for friendlies, whilst the games are unimportant, risk injuries and when all said and done serve little purpose for the players, they also allow kids their first trip to Wembley and in some cases their first taste of live footy, schools and grass roots clubs get the opportunity to purchase blocks of tickets, and for that reason alone I’d hate to see them disappear……..Pagan

MistraMistrsa, we created plenty of opportunities (not chances) we didn’t take them and that is an issue, I very much doubt it’s down to lack of training, but more lack of execution on the day, after all there’s a vast difference in practice than under pressure in a game.
As for its unlucky when you shoot and it’s off target but poor finishing when it’s off target by a larger amount, please explain, if it’s not on target then you’ve executed your attempt inaccurately to one degree or another.
Your insistence on using the word chance indicates that it’s your belief that whether the ball goes in or not is down to luck not skill………Pagan

Not a red for me, ball trapped between the two players the Hammers players leg just slid over the ball. Was a robust challenge and good news no injuries…..Pagan

MistraMike, Chelsea created plenty of opportunities (strangely you call them chances) but only took one, that points that more work needs to be done on individual’s finishing not on the tactics to create the opportunities…………Pagan

Nil,
“ I understand the stakes from a Revenue point of view, but surely the industry needs to do more to protect Club Managers”This is high level competitive sport, it’s not a managers job to put out a team, it’s his job to manage a successful team, it’s each teams right to set the level they deem as successful, but I can guarantee not one team will set relegation as the threshold.
As for the industry protecting them, how does that work, you can’t force a team to keep a manager that isn’t hitting the targets set.
“It’s poor too in terms of the set-up – not doing enough in my view from a training and development perspective and enticing a new breed”
I think there’s probably plenty of opportunities to train and learn, but like an apprenticeship you have to start at the bottom on little money, not many of the superstars want to do that, they want a high profile job on mega money as a first rung on the ladder

We are now starting to see the results of the investment in the academy, Roman has been at Chelsea just over 18 Years, obviously his first priority was a bit of success for the club, and then he started to look at the whole infrastructure of the club. You can’t just throw money at an academy, you have to get all the right people in place and only then will you get the right youngsters to go through their whole development in it. So I would think that the current batch of players coming through are the first to have had the their whole academy experience with the academy functioning at a world class level………Pagan
