9, as I said the other week, the contact was a penalty although not enough to make Foden go to ground. Unless they start giving fouls for this it, I’d say encourages, but it’s probably forces players to go to ground. Then we enforce where we are now with players throwing themselves to ground with little or any contact.

For me the refs need to start giving these decisions and instead of praising players for not cheating we need to be calling out and shaming the ones that do….. Pagan

Well that was a disgrace, nearly 70% of the play and only one goal from open play against a team below us in the league, yet again we have to rely on a penalty to make the game safe.

Seriously though, we should maybe have taken at least one more of the opportunities we created, but our work rate off the ball is impressive. Currently you have to say bringing Tommy Tickle in has made a terrific difference……Pagan

9, Celtic and Rangers are currently probably a mid table prem clubs, but given prem resources there’s no reason they couldn’t become top teams. It’s not likely to happen though, there’s no way teams are going to vote to accept teams into the English leagues that may take their European places…..Pagan

Nil, having read your above comment I thought I’d have a look into it.

“It’s Unique because no other Team winning the League has had to deal with Covid Pandemic.”

Well the top five last season were: Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Leicester. So I thought I’d see how the others are performing this season, well it’s a bit of a shock really, they currently occupy the top four places. Well how else could the pandemic have affected one team so much and not the others? Maybe the geographical location was more greatly affected? Well another shock there, Everton currently sit fifth.

For me Nil, Liverpool’s current problems are all down to the psychological issues surrounding top level sport, your players have had so much pressure over the last three season to win the league, pressure which has turned from hope to expectation after last season, that they are now suffering burnout, the goal of winning the league has been achieved, had they got the desire and motivation to go again was always going to be the question.

Nil this is no slight on Liverpool, yes you have a great squad of players, yes you have a great manager, but at the end of the day they’re just people who were under a lot of pressure to win, and that pressure was released and they haven’t quite got their focus back yet, they got to the top of the mountain but unfortunately they spent too much time admiring the view……Pagan

I think playing a different formation is only rearranging the deck chairs on a sinking ship, Klipperty needs to bring in replacements. As I’ve said before I think he’s probably to nice and to loyal to his players, Fergie was ruthless, however that style does always sit nicely with others conscience.

There’s no doubts that he can reinvent, rebuild and win the league again, it’s just with the newfound expectation at Liverpool will he be given time?…..Pagan

Nil, of course you’re predictable, that’s the way you’ve played for the last few seasons, the rest of the league have just learned how to counteract it. It’s going to be difficult to change styles without changing personnel, so I think you need to replace one or more of the attacking element rather than bring players in to challenge the existing first choice group. Defending doesn’t really change, so when you’re back up to full strength there you should be ok, but also learning from this season you’ll probably need to have a bit more backup….Pagan

It’s also the last 16 stage of the women’s CL, with both Man City’s and Chelsea’s Ladies in action tonight. Man City cruised through their first leg game against Fiorentina with a 3-0 home win. Chelsea Ladies were up against Atletico Madrid with Chelsea winning 2-0 at home, the result doesn’t tell the whole story with The Blues going down to 10 players in the 12th minute, and the Chelsea keeper saving 2 penalties…..Pagan

Nil, I don’t think you got it wrong more your opinion or interpretation was different to others, hence why I think the on field ref should look at all the things he may have missed in real time, I also think that the VAR should just ask do you want another look at that and not give an opinion that may affect the on field refs decision….. Pagan

To be honest, I think it’s a massive step forward that refs are now reviewing their decisions and are saying that they’re happy with them. The bottom line is that the on field ref should be the the one that makes all the decisions, that way there’s more likely to be consistency within any given game….Pagan

Nil, they seem to have altered the interpretation that was used at the start of the season where any contact of ball and hand was handball, so as you say the ball hit his hand, ball to hand, not hand to ball, therefore no penalty…..Pagan
