In addition to my previous post, another thing that may endear VAR to none believers like myself would be to change the laws of the game to make diving, exaggeration, holding you face like you’ve been hit with a frying pan when an opponent’s hand has brushed you chest and the like red card offences so they can be felt with there and then….. VAR was brought in as a response to TV coverage where the likes of Sky were saying “we can clearly see that was offside/onside/a foul/a dive etc. Why can’t they use technology to help the ref.
Unfortunately, the we can see “clearly” has been replaced by “we can micro examine to limits of the technology we have to try and prove factually”
For me I think we have to define what clear and obvious is, currently it’s “forensically examine” whereas I’d be a lot happier with “should the officials have spotted that in real time” or “would you expect the officials to get that right in real time” in other words just get rid of the howlers….. Sean, the technology used is all about getting the lines square across the pitch and then dropping down the lines from the body parts in question.
The VAR official will make his best guess of when the ball is played forward and will also mark the points on the players he deems closest to the goal, these are both subjective and can make an awful lot of difference.
I would say that the decisions made on the evidence provided have been correct, it’s just whether the evidence is accurate enough to make such fine calls…..Pagan

9, you stated VAR is 100% accurate, I just said is only as accurate as the best guess of when the ball moves forward, where the officials decide which part of the body to draw the line from, and the frame rate.
From the pictures using the above, then the decisions are correct, I’m just saying that I don’t think the system is accurate enough to make decisions of an inch within the limits of the technology. If you watch cricket a frame of video can make 2 or 3 inches difference when they look at run outs. So if the frame rate is making that much difference, then tolerance for error has to be at least that.
For me if the decision is within double the tolerance, then it’s onside…..Pagan

In respect to offside VAR is not 100% accurate, it’s only as accurate as the best guess when the ball moves forwards, where they draw the lines from and the frame rate. If you watch cricket, one frame can make a lot of difference when it come to run outs…..Pagan

If Man City go on to win the league this season it will be one of the greatest achievements if not the greatest in football, no team in history that has finished second during a pandemic and didn’t get to lick it’s wounds with its fans has ever gone on to win the league the next season🙂🙂🙂🙂……..Pagan

Blaze, modern day managers are only focussed on short term success, they’re expected to deliver from the get go. I would suggest that Klopp is an exception to this.
In an ideal world you’d employ Klopp to get you there and then bring in Pep to keep you there…… Pagan

Nil, the pandemic has affected the whole world, the clues in the word. It’s not specific to just Liverpool, so there must be other factors for the performance of the team this season.
The mentality, attitude and desire to go again comes from the management of the team, Klopp is a brilliant manager at building a team up over a few seasons and turning them into champions, that’s what his record shows, what his record also shows is he can’t maintain that success. Now you have to ask why that is and usually things like that come down to how the players are motivated and what effect it has on them. Klopp creates the desire to win, and the pressure builds until that goal is achieved, the price of that seems to be a lack of motivation once the target is achieved, whether that’s burn out or just a general relaxation to admire a job well done is open to conjecture. Now look at Pep, he’s unproven in taking teams from being under achieving to champions, but what he is good at is maintaining success, so he must have a different way of motivating his players, a way of continuous improvement where players mentality is always about not resting on their laurels. To keep banging on about not being able to celebrate with the fans is the cause of this seasons results seems to be trying to shift the blame from the team to an outside influence, had Liverpool been the only place affected then you may have had a point, but all clubs have had to deal with it, it’s just a coincidence it’s come at the same time as Klopp teams seem to have a drop off in performance……Pagan

Nil, Stop trying to look for something outside of Anfield to blame, it’s all down to attitude, mentality, pressure and burnout. If riding round in an open top double decker had any effect on the way a team performs then all clubs would be getting the tin openers out on their busses….Pagan

Snakes, yes I was aware that Arsenal Ladies had done it, but as 9 mentioned this post was for my amusement to see who’d jump on the men’s bandwagon.
Going back to the Arsenal Quadruple, it was easier for them to win domestic titles then compared to now as the Women’s game in this country was no where near as competitive then, however we were at the time miles behind Europe and for Arsenal Ladies to win the European competition was an absolutely fantastic achievement for them and helped to kickstart the growth of the ladies game in this country…..Pagan

9, to be fair to MistraMoos he didn’t say he’d played with Messi, he said he was as gifted football wise as Lionel, you just presumed it was Messi, when in reality was Blair…..Pagan

Disgraceful by the Man City player rolling round on the floor holding his face when he got a slight bit of contact on his knee, and yes that should have been a goal, but it can’t be looked at by VAR as the ref blew the whistle before the ball was put in the net. Will be interesting to hear the Man City lads take on the decisions…..Pagan

9, nearly 80% of people when asked can’t answer it, it’s called gender Schemas, it’s a unconscious gender bias, a bit like assuming Man City men are the only ones going for a quadruple…..Pagan

MistraMoos, nice to see that you base your opinion of Tommy Tickle on one game and not those that went before where the team showed progress. Every so often you get a game where everything you do doesn’t come off and everything the opponent does ends up in the back of the net, it happens to every team, you just have to pick yourself up and say “well that’s that one out of the way for the season” and get up and go again…..Pagan

I’m with Lucky on this, sure Silva has been a good signing for Chelsea, but he was brought in to give stability and organisation in the defence. Defending is all about organisation, discipline and experience and those come with age, good forwards rely on flair and creativity and there a young players trait. Yes he could come and do a job but it’s a short term fix that blocks younger players development or puts of a younger player wanting to come to the club…….Pagan

Brian, they could make the player stay off the pitch for the amount of time he spends rolling around, with an exception that if he’s subbed off then the sub can come straight on…..Pagan
