Diving, exaggeration and general cheating, until they become unacceptable are here to stay. The players themselves are quite happy to accept it as part of the game otherwise they wouldn’t do it.
The clubs obviously believe that the gains of cheating outweigh the potential punishments as they themselves would be trying to stamp it out.
Pundits/ex players go out of there way to try and justify it, trying desperately to preserve the integrity of the game.
The governing body has bought in retrospective punishment, but that’s not working.
The whole game is currently in denial, until they admit there is a problem we’re stuck with it. Retrospective action is paying lip service to the problem, at the moment they’re treating the symptom not the cause. Until the whole game comes together to stamp it out we’re stuck with it…..Pagan

999, more people get banned for speeding as it’s socially acceptable, Drongo Driving is not acceptable so only a select few idiots do it.
Cheating in sport has to carry that stigma, a two match ban compared to 3 point in a relegation battle is a price worth paying if there’s no embarrassment or shame in doing it

Chelsea.man, let’s try and keep this as a generic topic, not an individual witch hunt, NB was just having a laugh.
Football need to make it unacceptable to do, not unacceptable when you get caught…Pagan

999, it has to be made unacceptable to do, and carry a stigma with it.
Take Drink Driving, it’s now socially unacceptable and as such is less common
However speeding kills more than drink driving and we all do that….Pagan

Exactly Jim, that’s why the media need to step in, we can see it’s a dive, but the jobs for the boys brigade can’t, shame the players that do it, shame the pundits that defend it, shame the governing bodies that turn a blind eye.
Seeing the way players go down holding various parts of their body that may or may not have been touched, it’s no wonder they get in fights when they’re out…Pagan_____________________________

I’ve written this before, the rewards for diving and falling over at the merest touch far outweigh the punishment, retrospective 2 game bans go some way to addressing the problem, fines may help if they’re severe enough, but which club will fine a player for getting them a winning penalty.
For me the only way to stop players doing it is to shame them, they should be publicly ridiculed for it by the media, Sky, BT and the BBC have the rights to the tv footage, pundits need to stop defending it, you know the lines, there was contact, he has the right to go down etc.
After the match interview the offending players, humiliate them a bit, we all know they have massive egos that need to be massaged, well dent those egos a bit….Pagan

In days of old a goalkeeper was someone who wanted to play football but wasn’t good enough, now they’re footballers who can use their hands, got that comment from an FA course earlier this year, and there’s probably a bit of truth in it.
One thing I will say about Ederson is his ability’s to play relatively flat, accurate long balls. Most keepers tend to play higher loopier balls, the flatter the quicker it get there and the transition time for the opposition is less giving Man City in this case an advantage.
There are several fantastic keepers out there, and I would say both the Manchester clubs have probably got the best fit for their respective teams….Pagan

De Gea fits the Spanish style of play which is similiar to Citys style and Uniteds style of play too. United have conceded the same goals as City, yet City play football with a higher possesion. Which keeper would Pep prefer?

CM, which keeper would Pep prefer, I don’t know, however I’ve just called him but he hasn’t picked up, so he’s either busy or driving, I’ve left him a voice mail though, when he gets back to me I’ll update you….Pagan

CM, Goat has a point, the best side is not necessarily the one with all the best players, but a team which is greater than the sum of its parts. DDG needs to be a great shot stopper, whereas Ederson doesn’t need to be.
Ederson plays in a manner that suits his team, and as such is their best option.
DDG is one of the best shot stoppers in the world at the moment, but that’s probably as he gets a lot of practice….Pagan
