Personally I don’t understand the logic behind paying Lineker the vast money he’s on or the fact you have to have ex players as pundits. I don’t watch MOTD to see the presenter, I watch it to to see the footy, as for pundits I’d like to see a mixture of qualified coaches, but not ex managers and down to earth footy fans who say it as it is.
I would say the majority of people on here could watch the footage on MOTD and say where things went wrong, to me it’s jobs for the boys again….Pagan

9, I think Keown May be correct though, look at Jose, does he cut the figure of an inspirational figure? with his current demeanour would you want him leading you into battle?
For me he has to leave and go to PSG, dominate a league, and get his mojo back….Pagan

Chelsea.man, there are of course 3 parties in a deal, in this case Chelsea, Hazard and maybe Real. Obviously Chelsea want the biggest wedge they can get, Real want the opposite.
Personally I think Real need a major overhaul, which I don’t believe they can do in this window and the summer. In some respects they are in a similar position to Liverpool, in that it’s the back they need to strengthen first.
Obviously Hazard running his contract down not only benefits Real, but also himself, as the less they spend on “buying him” the more they can spend on his wages.
You mentioned Ronaldo leaving Man U, and them still winning trophies, Ronaldo’s last 3 seasons there they won the league 3 times on the bounce, they’ve won it twice since..Pagan

9, telling them to swivel is all well and good, but then we have a rapidly depreciating asset, which Real will know. It’s a fine line to tread….Pagan

Chelsea.man, if we sell Hazard and get £x, then to get a player as good is also going to cost £x, and that of course depends on the player wanting to come.
I don’t think Hazard is in any rush to leave Chelsea, but I don’t think he will sign a new contract, which lowers his price significantly….Pagan

Chelsea.man, unfortunately we can’t replace any player that wants to leave, we don’t have the financial clout we did before FFP, more clubs are on an equal footing to us, we don’t have the charisma of Barca, Real, Man U. We do howeve have recent form and we have shown we will and can be successful.
As for replacing any player, we haven’t replaced Lampard yet….Pagan

Oh the joys of fixed term contracts, let another club buy the right to let him work for them off you, or let him run down his contract and leave. Mr Bosman has a lot to answer for.
Prior to the Bosman ruling the clubs had far too much control over their players, but I don’t think the idea was to shift it totally in favour of the player, but we’re stuck with it now…Pagan

Chelsea.man, they’re rare I’ll admit, but if you have wide players you need someone arriving late in the middle, will be costly but ultimately worthwhile….Pagan

Chelsea.man, I’d sooner have a central midfielder who pushes on and can score, we have wide players that can do that, but nothing coming through the middle to turn those one points into three….Pagan

28th December 2017 at 6:53 pm in reply to: "He's coming home, he's coming home, he's coming, Van Dijk's coming home" #10313Ken Bates bought Chelsea for £1 or some say £10, but took on £1m of debt, yes we nearly did a Leeds but Roman bought us in the nick of time. The story goes he looked at Spurs but Chelsea had CL football.
The manner of the accumulation of his wealth has been questioned by some, but commitment to his club has not been so, unlike Man U and Liverpool where there has been discontent by the fans.
I’ve never heard a bad word about Roman from a Chelsea fan, so as the new breed of owners go he has to be one, if not the best….Pagan

27th December 2017 at 6:26 pm in reply to: Christmas and New year fixtures up until 4th Jan (Including Predictions) #10147Goat, most matches on TV have a moment where one of the commentators calls penalty, then gets a replay and will either say not sure or definitely not.
I can see where your coming from about refs seemingly going unpunished, if you’ve got the best refs out there and then you start suspending them, then you have not the best refs out there.
It’s a tricky situation, as a lot of goals come from free kicks, penalties, quick breaks following a tackle and situations where there may be an offside. So obviously these are examined in detail by the media, and any mistake will be highlighted and dissectedwith relish.
But if you take the 90 minutes as a whole, we’re talking about one sometimes two incidents, which in a contact sport that moves at the pace it does over the area it covers isn’t really that bad…..Pagan

27th December 2017 at 2:20 pm in reply to: Christmas and New year fixtures up until 4th Jan (Including Predictions) #101159, as you know, £120-150 and 3 days will get you qualified as a ref, do 5-6 games and you’ve got your money back and you’ll get a greater understanding of the laws of the game, and a rude awakening to how difficult it can be.
Reminds me of a quote I heard recently “nobody wants to help me do my homework, but plenty of people want to mark it”

27th December 2017 at 2:09 pm in reply to: Christmas and New year fixtures up until 4th Jan (Including Predictions) #10110Goat, a ref explaining his decisions to the players, a bit like rugby. Unfortunately in order for that to happen the players would need to listen and the accept the decision.
It happens in rugby as that’s the way the game is, in football you have to run up to the ref knowing full well your in the wrong and the eff and jeff at him.
The same pundits that sit on MOTD, BT, Sky etc. criticising refs for making mistakes are the same ones justifying players throwing themselves to the ground at the merest touch, in effect it’s alright to try and con the ref but not alright for the ref to be conned.
If you want a game where there are very few mistakes made by refs, expect a game controlled by a panel of refs sat in front of video screens with a tanoy system.
Enjoy the game with injustices both for and against you, that’s what makes it so good…Pagan

27th December 2017 at 12:13 pm in reply to: Christmas and New year fixtures up until 4th Jan (Including Predictions) #10096Goat, has refereeing got worse or is every decision overanalysed, the ref sees everything once from an angle no one else has. I’ve reffed and my lad refs now, if something happens in a game and I’m there I ask one question “what did you see?” based on his answer he makes the correct decision.
As I’ve said from my point of view, that’s all that needs to happen, get the ref to just say what he saw, or even better get him to do this at the time and record it, you’d then get a real time view of the logic behind his thought process that can be reviewed after the game.

27th December 2017 at 10:10 am in reply to: Christmas and New year fixtures up until 4th Jan (Including Predictions) #10080From a referee’s point of view, he has to be certain that the player is offside, not onside, as the offence is offside. The linesman was correct to signal for the offence, but I think that was more luck than judgement.
What the conversation was is anyone’s guess, but it was probably be around whether the forward touched the ball, again the ref needs to be certain. I would personally like to see the conversations between the officials recorded and for contentious decisions released after the game so it can be seen how they came to be given.
The problem with video technology with offside is the linesman will tend to let anything but the most blatant offences go as it can then be reviewed if it leads to a goal….Pagan
