We tend to think when we watch the premier league how much better the English game is than that of Scotland, on this showing it’s not that different when you take out the foreign players……Pagan

9, yeah I know you did, was just making the point that teams in lesser leagues will change styles to accommodate what they see as a big name capture whereas big teams in big leagues will expect players to change to adapt to their style, the best players will always adapt, I would say Sutton failed to adapt at Chelsea and Celtic played to his strengths, and as you say it was a much easier league in Scotland…..Pagan

Let’s face it, cricket in this country is a minority sport, played in general by posh kids. Cricket is seldom played in state schools now due to rules and regulations regarding teacher to pupil recommendations to stop kids getting hurt.
The local club gets approximately 100 kids down to the ground to junior training night, the vast majority of these are under 11 years old, with most of them being under 9, the ones in general that improve the most and stay in the game after 12/13 are those who play cricket at their private schools or have parents that are involved in the club.
When my youngest first went to county trials, it seemed I was the only one there that didn’t turn up in a Range Rover, the parents cricket associations, the clubs kids play for and which school they go to seems to play a big part in who gets through. Those that get through without having the required background work harder and generally seem to be better players.
From those that go on to play at the highest level, the big financial rewards are on the T20 circuit, so that’s what they hone their skills to do, maybe to improve national team we need to be looking elsewhere than the superstars that have made their names in the short format game…..Pagan

9, the post was there to show that it’s not just the league you play in that affects your effectiveness, Sutton did really well in the Prem with Blackburn, their style of play brought out the best in him, he moved to Chelsea and he couldn’t adapt to the players and style of play there, and the team wasn’t going to change just to accommodate one player. At Celtic I would say that the club was more willing to change the way they played to suit the “big signing from the premier league” which allowed him to thrive…..Pagan

9, or you could say Chris Sutton scored goals at Blackburn and at Celtic, but couldn’t hit a bulls arse with a banjo at Chelsea. As with all players it’s the how they work with other players and how they adapt their game to make a system work that brings results…..Pagan

Unfortunately cricket below County level is all one day or T20, so although batters like to score runs, they don’t put a high price on their wicket. The good news is that we are now starting to see junior county games being played over 2 days, meaning players are starting to learn to look after their wicket rather than just trying to have a high run rate……Pagan

Ed,
No other manager has won more than he’s lost against Pep, arguably the best manager in world football.
I would suggest that you read the full list, there’s at least 4 other managers in there that have won more than they’ve lost, some have a 100% win record against him……Pagan

MistraMoos, yes Frank has to take a bit of credit for how this season went, but you do realise that he once played for Chelsea don’t you, he wasn’t always a Man City player…..Pagan

Whether you play a more offensive or defensive game, the teams that win the most games are those that transition the best between the two. Chelsea have been extremely good in the transition phase under Tommy Tickle, excepting the WBA match, they have been very good at quickly going into their defensive shape when they’ve lost the ball, and on the break they have created plenty of opportunities, unfortunately not converting them has been the problem, put an instinctive 25 league goal a season striker in the team and I think they’ll be title contenders…..Pagan

Finally got round to watching the game, not really as much fun when it’s not live though. Great goal from Havertz, would have been interesting had he not scored to see if the European VAR would intervene with the goalkeepers handball, as for the Rudiger incident, currently its a yellow card offence, but for me any deliberate foul, no matter where on the pitch should have greater consequences, instead of being labelled as taking one for the team. Hopefully KDB doesn’t miss the Euros.
On to 9, I’m sure he knows we all wish him well, he followed The Blues through the 70s and 80s, so we know he’s mentally positive and strong as he came through them smiling, chin up 9 and keep that positive mental attitude going…..Pagan

9, feet, head, knee, it’s all rubbish if you have to start drawing lines to prove either way to millimetres. Show the picture, if it’s not clear and obvious to the naked eye, either give the advantage to the attacker or go with the “soft signal” of the assistant ref……Pagan

I think that the VAR needs to have a realism brief, currently they seem to think that they need to justify their existence, and as such desperately try to find a counter to the on fields referee’s decision. The brief should be to protect the officials from howlers and support the marginal decisions by showing it’s near impossibility in getting them 100% right in real time. We’re never going to improve refereeing while we’re destroying their confidence by overruling decisions they make that you can’t get right beyond doubt in real time…..Pagan

Blaze, except for the wrestling in the box against Manchester United, and the Penalty we should have had against Leicester, etc. etc. etc. Then it’s been really accurate.
Let’s face it, the top two things fans want to see are:
ridiculous decisions like the “goal” Spurs scored against Manchester Utd, wrong people getting sent off, the hand of god goal etc being corrected, that is what VAR should be used for.
The other is stopping diving, which it’s done nothing about, it may have stopped the rewards from doing so (in some cases) but until diving is a red card offence it won’t stop the crime……Pagan

9, going back to one of your points,
“VAR for offsides is very accurate imo but goals have to be ruled out for feet being in an offside position and not a portion of the hand.”
That can’t be right, hands/arms including the keeper’s, are not to be used for judging offside as per the laws of the game.
