Tugay, if you get clipped and it’s not enough to send you to ground, but you decide to throw yourself to ground, then your exaggerating what happened, and exaggeration is really only another word for lying.

The problem the game has, is that lying and cheating is now accepted as part of the game, and it’s now up to the ref to sort it out, unfortunately the players get really good at it, and instead of castigating the players we moan about the refs, and then we get VAR, and that’s gone well…….Pagan

No, There was contact and the ref gave what he saw, VAR shouldn’t overturn an on-field decision unless it’s a clear and obvious error, which it wasn’t. For me I’d like to see red cards for diving, which again this wasn’t, Stirling exaggerated the effect of the minimal contact, if the ref had given the decision against Stirling and booked him then fair enough, but as we know VAR can’t be used to give yellow cards.

I personally have no problem with the penalty being give on Wednesday, the ref gave what he saw, my problem is with players being coached to make sure the ref sees something that didn’t happen, it’s a difficult one but basically players are pushing the boundaries of fact and honesty………Pagan

Mike, that’s why the laws of the game need changing, to either allow VAR to become involved in yellow card offences, or for Diving/Simulation/exaggeration to become a red card offence, personally I think it has to be the latter……….Pagan

VAR currently is not a deterrent for diving, yes it can change the decision, but diving is a yellow card offence, and VAR can’t be used to punish yellow card offences, if the laws of the game were changed to make diving a red card offence, which when all said and done it should be as it’s blatant cheating then we may see a change, but until then we’re carrying on down the road to a non contact game……….Pagan

Is contact a foul? That’s the question. If a player puts his hand on another’s shoulder, is that a foul? can the player that has been touched go to ground? The fact of the matter is, it’s the opinion of the referee on whether it was foul play, whether the contact was enough to unbalance a player. The problem we now have is the degree of contact required to send a player tumbling is reducing every season, are the laws of physics changing or is it being coached?

As I’ve said before, if we all fell over in real life, with the minimal contact we see in professional football, then the January sales would be carnage……Pagan

Nil, I don’t think anyone has said there was no contact, but let’s be honest there wasn’t enough to send him tumbling to the ground. The bottom line is he felt a bit of contact, and exaggerated how much and went to ground. The key word there is exaggerated, (regarded or represented as larger, better, or worse than in reality) so not the truth, so your making the referee think he’s seen something that hasn’t happened. The problem is, when do you draw the line, is any slight contact a foul?

Players get lauded for staying on their feet, but throwing themselves to the ground at the slightest thought is justified by phrases like “he had a right to go down” or “there was definitely a bit of contact” it’s not a very good reflection on society when being honest and truthful is something out of the ordinary and lying and cheating is accepted as the norm……..Pagan

Was a good game last night, in patches England played really well, and on balance were the better team.

On to the talking points, the Danish wall moving, not sure without an aerial view if they were or weren’t a yard away from the English wall, they are allowed to be closer to the ball than 10 yards, think we’ll see more of that technique in games from now on, personally I thought it was very clever to move as a unit to unsight the keeper.

The penalty, we’ll there was a little contact and Sterling made the most of it, replays show that he went down very easily from minimal contact, and to be fair VAR did what it says on the can, it said it wasn’t a clear and obvious error and didn’t try to re referee an incident.

As a follow on, the penalty itself was dreadful, but the rebound was thankfully put away.

Casper got booed for his pre match comments about football coming home, as for the booing of National Anthems, we as a nation don’t in general put a great reverence on either ours or our flag, other nations do, so what we think is a bit of banter others find offensive…….Pagan

Pundits, do they need to be multimillionaire ex players, I’m sure there’s a plethora of highly qualified coaches out there that that could do an equally, if not better job, but then again it would go against the “jobs for the boys” that football is run on from top to bottom in this country, hence the same old faces getting managerial jobs, and only superstar ex players given any opportunities.

The most annoying thing at the moment is them banging on how it’s the best chance we’ll ever have, just another excuse for their failings when they had the opportunity…….Pagan
