But money isn’t everything is it, no prizes for making the most money.
FFP is there to try and keep the status quo, the historically big clubs don’t want rich owners coming their party and taking all the prizes, a battle I think they can’t win.
FFP should not be there to stifle competition under the guise of sustainability, if rich owners want to put billions into football clubs that’s up to them…. Pagan

9, if you mean on Teamtalk then no.
My comment was in relation to West Brom, historically a game that has had many managerial casualties…. Pagan

So we have a Chelsea manager under pressure and the next game is West Brom. History says you don’t want to lose that game…Pagan

Chuckles, mine will, but we are grass roots, so it’s not really going to have too much of an effect unless it catches on as a hashtag

Blimey, are you lot still banging on about who is holier than who in the diving stakes.
Well try this, google diving followed by a team and see how many videos there are, then google the same team and condemning their own players for diving, you may find there’s not many videos of the officials from clubs slating their own players.
Chuckles is dead right on this, all clubs do it, no club is more or less guilty than another, it’s wrong, it needs to stop and the only people that can do that are the players and the clubs themselves….Pagan

Brian, so you sell a world class player to another top club. You don’t get full price for him because everyone knows you want rid. The player gets another club on the same if not more money and a signing on fee. So the club loses and the player gains, that showed him. Alternatively you could let him rot in the reserves where he gets full pay and leaves for a rival on a free, only one loser there.
At some point there’s a case for them being employed like the vast majority of us, where they have to give x weeks notice and they can leave, no transfer fees, but no job security as you can sack players that don’t perform…. Pagan_____________________________

Ed, Jose had a history of ostracising players, signing an extended contracts, losing the dressing room and eventually getting fired, so he’s half way there already?
Seriously though, you put one in the reserves and then another, then their mates start getting the negative vibe, then you have a tools down situation, then what happens, 5 players out or one manager?
As for the manager having the final say on transfers, knowing A prem managers average tenure would give him total Control? I wouldn’t, unless you only hire managers that have the same playing ethos…. Pagan_____________________________

Ed, but there’s the problem, how do you discipline/punish a player, fine him for not having s good game, suspend him and not then have him playing for you, sell him and he then gets a signing on fee, sack him and write off millions, and he moved to a competitor for free. Easier and cheaper to change manager, player power rules, unfortunately we’re stuck with it….Pagan

Chuckles, I seriously think you overestimated the sophistication of the level of humour on here with your thong joke?
As for player loyalty, I regard players as extremely highly paid mercenaries, and as such expect no loyalty….Pagan

9, cynical comment admittedly but those going to China sort of cast doubt on what we used to think motivates players, success and respect seem to have been replaced by celebrity and wealth, yeah it’s s depressing thought…. Pagan

Chuckles, you said last night about jumpers for goal posts, and the emotions or scoring, and that got me thinking, you I presume played football for fun, whereas players today don’t, they’ve been put on the treadmill from a very young age, in a hope they can make a lot of money, to them it’s just a job, there’s no fun…. Chuckles, you know perfectly well I’m not asking for sympathy, it’s an art getting a team together, getting the personality and ability balance correct, Spurs are really getting there, unfortunately Leicester and then Chelsea had outstanding seasons and now it looks like Man City are having one.
The problem with big players is they come with big egos (in general) and when big egos clash it can be somewhat harmful to team spirit. Ideally you need your big egos to be glass half full personalities, to me Chelsea have only looked at ability and as such not got the balance right, that’s something they need to learn from….Pagan_____________________________

Chuckles, that only works if they bought £500m worth of the right players. A team should always be greater than the sum of its parts, getting that blend right is the trick, it’s not only about on the pitch it’s in the dressing room and on the training pitches. Building a team is about getting it right on both ability and personality, cultivating a team spirit where the team comes first where players get pulled up to to greater things rather than dragged down….Pagan

9, no one on this forum knows what was discussed during Conte’s appointment, were just having an educated guess, however I would suggest the club need to back him to the hilt when it comes to his position as coach, the vast majority of managers we have had since Roman took over have suffered from the players “downing tools” to one extent or another, this has always ended up with the manager going. Player power at Chelsea is crippling the club, players coming in know they are bought by committee and as such don’t think they have to respect the manager, they need to know that’s not the case.
Whilst I partly agree with players being bought by committee, that committee has to include the coach and they make a list of players for each position or type of player they want, and then someone else goes out and tries to get them in an order of preference.
For me Roman and the board need to sit by Conte with the players and 100% back him, let them know player power is a thing of the past….Pagan_____________________________
